About Census Records
Federal Census Population Schedules, are taken every ten years.
They are available for Medina County, Texas for 1850 through 1930,
except for 1890 when most of the records were destroyed by fire including Medina
County records. In addition to Population Schedules,
Industry and Agricultural Schedules are available for 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880;
Mortality Schedules for 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880; Slave Schedules for 1850 and
1860 and Union Veterans Schedules for 1890. The Republic of
Texas (1836-1845) didn't take a census, but county tax rolls can be used for
research purposes. They can be found on microfilm and are available at
several locations, one being Clayton Library for Genealogical Research in
Houston.
This website contains the Population Schedules (census
records) that have been transcribed and submitted by volunteers. We
appreciate their time and willingness to aid fellow researchers. Remember that
the originals were hand written and misspelled names, illegible writing and
other errors are possible.
