SLATTER, Mary Ann---Mary Ann SLATTER (born
1819 in GA) came to Leon County from Alabama about 1856 with her husband,
William Solomon Jackson BOYKIN and family. John W. SLATTER (born 1814 in
GA) came to Leon County with his wife (Sophia PAYNE) and family sometime after
the birth of his youngest child which was about 1849. Lewis SLATTER (born
1826 in AL) came to Leon County from Alabama in 1856 with his second wife
(Margaret LOPER) and family, one of whom was born in a covered wagon about the
time they arrived there. John and Lewis and their wives are buried in
Parker Cemetery in Leon County and Mary's husband is buried in Boykin Chapel
Cemetery in Leon County. Mary is buried in Evants County, TX, where she
moved after her husband's death to live with her son. It would seem likely
that these three SLATTERs are related and may have even all come to Leon County
together at the same time. Has anyone identified a family relationship
between these three people? Mary SLATTER is my 3g grandmother.

RE: VAUGH(A)N--from
Dan Williams--Joan, I am aware of
a small cemetery that was near a country church and a school a few miles from
Buffalo, Leon Co., TX, in 1890. However, there are probably several
cemeteries in Leon County that could meet this description. The one that I
know about is Boykin Chapel. It was established in 1888 with the burial of
William Solomon Jackson BOYKIN, my 3ggrandfather, who founded Boykin Chapel and
the Boykin Academy that taught boys to read and write and cipher. The
cemetery was next to these but the church and school are no longer in existence
and there appears to be no physical trace of them remaining. Though the
cemetery is very small, quite a few of my relatives are buried there.
However, I recently surveyed this cemetery and found no marker indicating that
Julia Harriet VAUGHN is buried there. There are markers that have no
identification on them. The cemetery is on land owned by Reuben Barnett
(my double first cousin once removed) and he tends to it but I have no
knowledge of the existence of any kind of records regarding burials in the
cemetery. Reuben may know...

Haskell Co. John is not listed there with Virginia. Julia is our
great-great grandmother and Virginia "Jenny" is her daughter. If you have
