I would like some information on Joseph Jefferson Bell and his family. My
ggmother was Nancy Jefferson Bell and my gggparents were Joseph and Nancy ? C.?
Bell. The Selman family, Willis L., were my gggparents also and although I have
found them, I am still looking for the Bell connection to the family. Anything
you can tell me will help> I do know they were all living in Leon Co. at the
time of their deaths. Thank You Selma

I'm interested in Leon Co., specifically Flynn. It's where my grandad grew up
(Jack Runyan Brittain) and near where my grandmother (Caroly Sue Hollins
Brittain) gre up (Centerville). I know the Brittain side has many doctors and a
long history there as I've found lots of documentation on them, but I would like
some pictures or stories or documents that family may have been involved. Mostly
I'm interested in the Brittain side. Thanks

I am looking for information on Paul A. Treadaway, b. 12/12/1887 in Marquez, TX.
That is all that I have so far. I have not been able to pick him up on a census
until 1910 and he died before the 1920 census. Looking for any family that he
may have had in Leon Co. or anywhere for that matter. Thanks

Searching for information. On March 9, 1912, Solomon Sanders Mabry was shot and
killed in Leon (possibly Madison) Co. From what I understand, he lived in
Normangee area but may have been shot outside the city limits somewhere. I have
a copy of the death certificate---cause of death was "Gunshot
wound...Homicidal". That's the only information I can find on this. I don't know
if "homicidal" means HE was homicidal or if he was the victim of homicide or
what.
His info: Solomon Sanders Mabry b. 1855 in LA (or TX) to William Thomas Mabry
and Nancy Jane Frame, married 1/17/1883 in Grimes Co. to Nora Lee Macy. She was
born 1865 in TX, died Dec. 4, 1954 in Navasota, TX. They had two children, Pearl
Macy Mabry b. 1893 and Myrtie Mabry b. 1888.
Any family info would be appreciated but I really want to know what happened in
relation to his death. The family legend is that he was found in bed with
another man's wife--I need to know if that's just family rumors or if it's
true...and if so, who this woman was. Thanks

I am trying to find the burial location of Abe and Francis Hopkins. He was
murdered about 1915. She lived into the 1960's, at least. They were
African-American, parents of Sam "Lightnin" Hopkins, the blues singer.

I am seeking information regarding the ancestry of Sherwood L. Cox, who came to
Leon Co. in the 1870's. Sherwood was born in Anson Co., NC on Jan. 21, 1825 and
was the son of William H. Cox and Mary T. Cox (nee unknown), both natives of NC.
Sherwood was the brother to my gg grandmother, Mary T. Cox Nash, who with her
husband and children, relocated to Clark Co., AR in 1860 and later to Pike Co.,
AR. Sherwood left Anson Co. (probably around 1868) and spent a couple of years
as a farmer in Pike Co., AR while trying to make his way to TX. I am hoping that
one of Sherwood's present day descendants has information regarding Sherwood's
mother, and perhaps has information regarding who his grandparents were.

I am researching my third great grandfather, Bascom Robinson. I have hit a
brick wall in finding anything about him. I know he was born in MS
ca. 1830. My third great grandmother's maiden name was Sarah M. Bynum, she was
born in 1833 in Blount Co., AL and came to TX in 1834. She was a daughter of
James Bynum and granddaughter of Sephen F. Box and Keziah Allbright Box, early
settlers of Houston Co. I have searched Houston Co., but to no avail. I thought
maybe someone bight know something about him in Leon Co. I surely would be
greatful for any help I can get on the Robinson family in early East Texas.
Thank you so much and who know, we might be relatives.

I am desperately searching for information on my great grandfather Norah Johnson
of Leon Co., TX. I have the death certificate but the State of Texas vital
records states there is no record of his birth July 6, 1892. He died Nov 1959 in
Corsicana TX and was buried in Woodland Cemetery but there is no record of his
burial however I have the death certificate. Now I'm searching for a
daughter he had named Offie listed on the 1920 Federal Census born in 1913 but I
don't know if there were other kids and I have no additional info on Offie the
daughter. This family is not listed on any federal census after 1920.
It's like they disappeared until his death in 1959.
They are of mixed race the census listed.

I am searching for descendants of and information regarding C. Z. Haley, who was
listed in the 1860 Leon Co. Census. Living in his household was William
MOORE, age 13 and born in England. Young William was my husband's
great-grandfather. According to family tradition, William entered the U.
S. at Galveston. His mother died en route aboard the ship. We don't
know the name of his father nor what happened to him. Apparently the Haley
family befriended young William. By 1870, William was living in his own
Falls Co. household with his wife Ida (Meggs, young son Charles, Caroline Meggs
(his mother-in-law), and Eliza Meggs (his sister-in-law.) We will
appreciate any assistance on this family. Thank you,
Wilma Moore
