Henderson Co. was established on April 27, 1846, and
named it in honor of
James Pickney Henderson, (1808-1858) first
governor of the state of Texas. The county was formed
from parts of Nacogdoches and Houston counties, it was
organized on August 4, 1846. Kaufman and Van Zandt
counties were formed out of Henderson Co. in 1848. Athens
is the county seat.
Welcome
to the Henderson County TXGenWeb site. My name is
Laura Gregory Roberts.
I am the Volunteer County
Coordinator for Henderson County,
Jane
Keppler, co-coordinator.
We hope that with the help
of the fine folks of the county, we will be able to make
this a site that helps all that visit.
