I am looking for information on my g-grandparents, Robert Beverly WILLINGHAM (b. 3/1833, Alabama)) and his wife, Cynthia Arise Oldham and their family; they were parents of my grandfather, Charles "Charley" WILLINGHAM, b. May 10, 1872, Henderson County, Texas. Can any of you provide information on them or their family? Robert & Cynthia moved to Texas about 1857; they were married in Anderson, Grimes County, Texas on Dec. 30, 1856. I appreciate any assistance you can provide me in my family search and wishyou all a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year. I will reply to your e-mail and am willing to share any of my information. Joseph Matthew SNOWDEN born Dec 1854 MS died Nov 1923 (no certificate in Austin or county) married 1877 in Robertson County Viola B. FRAZIER born June 14, 1859 TX died April 14, 1942 in Smith Co. TX. They were married in the home of his Uncle John Green's home. They had nine children, but on 1920 Census stated that only four are living. 1. Ollie, 2. John Robert 3. Mack Lusk 4. Alice Elizabeth. Alice Elizabeth was my grandmother. She was born in Henderson Co. 1892. This family lived most of their married lives in Henderson Co. TX. According to family tradition, Joseph M. is buried in the Larue Cemetary. Viola is buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetary in Smith Co.TX. According to the Census, Viola's mother and father were born in TEXAS. I have been unable to find her on a census until 1880 after she is married. HELP would be most appreciated. Mary W. Glenn

I am looking for information on my mother's ancestors. Her name is Martha Sue THRASHER. She was born on the Henderson County Poor Farm in 1925. Her mother, Bell THRASHER, died there on November 5, 1927. Her father was listed as a farmer. At age 4, my mother was placed in the Corsicana State Orphan's home. She had a fraternal twin sister named Mary Lee who eventually died in Rusk State Hospital.

I am looking for any available information on John Nathan GOINS - (last name may be spelled GOIN, GOEN, GOENS, GOING, GOINGS, GOWEN, GOWENS). According to LDS records, he was born in Athens in 1849, but according to Brown County 1920 census record showing his son John GOINS, as head of household, under "birthplace of father" he was born in France. Family oral tradition says he was "French and Indian". His name was given as "Nath Goins" on his son's death certificate His son (my wife's grandfather), John Christopher Columbus GOINS, was b. July 17, 1875 in Athens. His mother was Emily R. JONES; we have been unable as yet to find record of her marriage to John Nathan GOINS. According to LDS records, she was born in Athens in 1853, was divorced from John Nathan GOINS, and her father was Frederick JONES, mother was Harriet (?). We do not know when she left Henderson county, but do know she married Mr. J.B. HOWARD in Comanche County on December 23, 1877. In the index to the 1880 Comamnche County census, a Joab HOWARD is listed as head of household, and in the same household is listed "GOEN(?), John C.", age 5. We will be happy to share any information we have with anyone searching same surnames, locations, etc.

I am searching for any information on the following surnames who were probably in Henderson Co., Texas between 1865-1880. The 1870 census shows ; WM. H. WYATT age 55 and wife Pernelia (PENDERGRASS) WYATT, age 39 and daughter, MELISSA PENDERGRASS age 8 living in Athens. I believe Melissa and Pernelia died before 1880. Thank you for accepting these. I'm looking for information on a "McDuff LARKIN", my Great Grandfather and his wife, Emma Duck LARKIN. They were known to have acquired some land West of Athens TX around 1897 and it has remained (essentially) in the family since. Does anyone have any information about McDuff? Henry M. LARKIN (their son) died a few years ago, and is my Dad's dad. McDuff was killed on the Railroad and was (I believe) a postal service employee (letter carrier?). Thanks for any info you may have!

I am researching Riddley B. THOMAS b. 1817 TN. He lived in what is now Oregon Co., MO until 1848 when he came to Malakoff, Henderson Co., TX. He married Susan ? and they had 10 children. When she died in 1861, he married Isabell Buford. During the Civil War , Riddley ran the ferry crossing the Trinity River at Porter's Bluff. He died in 1865. I'd love to exchange info with any descendents.

Looking for info on MRS.ANNIE and daughter Gracie THOMAS. Gracie was put up for adoption in 1884 in Tarrant co. TX. Father unknown but Gracie was at least half indian. She was adopted by a white couple, DICK and Nannie (Nancy) Jane MATTHEWS. Nannies maiden name was SHAWVER. She had a sister named Lora Bell SHAWVER who lived in Clarenden,TX. For some unknown reason they later changed their name to David and Nancy MCHERD.

Joe Peterson I have learned that my GGfather was named George W. PETERSON and he was born in N.C c1821 and married Francis, last name, unknown. They had 7 children by the time of the 1860 Census(I can’t be sure this is the right George but it appears to be and I am still checking.) He was not on the 1870 N.C. census George W age 50 was living in Henderson CO TX by the time of the 1870 Census. He was married to Lucinda and had 7 additional children Mollie age 24 Louisa age 15 Georgia age 13 Thomas age 11 Jefferson Davis age 9 Angeline age 4 (this was my great aunt died in Kiomatia Red River CO TX in the 40’s Charlie A age 1 The 1880 census shows George W. Peterson living Hallville, Harrison Co TX with wife Lucinda and his children were: Thomas L age 21 Angie P. Age 13 (This is my aunt Angeline above) Charlie A age 11 John W. Age 9 (this was my grand father) Dan Shaw age 7 Effie age 5 (this was another aunt I remember) Ofelia age 3 (this is another aunt I heard about but did not know) I want to thank all the help I received on this search. And several letters encouraging me to keep trying. This only accounts for 2 wives but it does account for most of the 21 children he was credited with(eather 3or 5 wifes) If this looks familiar to anyone I would like to hear from you. The early children were listed by initials and don’t correspond to the 1870 group so I am still checking that. It is the Texas descendants I would like to learn more about at this time. And you all have been very helpful.

Waynette Sorrells I am researching the Wm. C. HOLLAND family. He was a brother to Dulcenia HOLLAND THOMPSON AVERITT. He married Sarah T. BUTCHER both of Henderson County Nov. 20, 1848. They are listed in the the 1860 census Henderson Co as 31 a Blacksmith born in Ala. and Sarah T. 25 born in Kentucky. They had 4 daughters, Elizabeth 11 (married Isaac T. Ray) Emirina 8, Clemintine 4 and Recemia 1. In the 1870 census I found Wm. C. HOLLAND 41 married to Laura 39 from N.C. with Fannie V. age 2. I have not found any . BUTCHER 's in Henderson County. I think Wm. C. HOLLAND lived in Brownsbough which was outside of Athens. Appreciate any help. Waynette

Pam Gregory I am looking for connections to Hugh CARTER b. Aug 14, 1832 in TN and d. Sept 6, 1909 TX. Hugh CARTER married Mary Emly (?) on Feb. 7, 1868 in Cherokee County, TX. Hugh and Mary Emly CARTER were buried in the Rounsavall Cemetery south of Murchison and near the Black Jack Community, Henderson County, TX. Hugh CARTER was listed in the Henderson County census beginning in 1860 until his death. His children were: Sallie Bama CARTER b. Sept. 29, 1870 (spouse, Albert Franklin HOOD); Hugh B. CARTER b. Jan 3, 1974 d. Dec. 24, 1955; and Telulah CARTER b. Apr. 2, 1877 d. Feb 2 1890. I am trying to establish a connection between this Hugh CARTER and the founding Hugh CARTER families in Greene County, TN. Thank you. Pam

Can you help me locate my great great great grandparents. It is my understanding they were both born in Athens, TX. Isaac T. Ray and Elizabeth Ann HOLLAND (Lizzie) were married in Athens on April 13, 1871 by James H. SKINNER, J.P. Lizzie was living with her Aunt Dulcinia AVERIET in the 1870 census. I am trying to locate the names of their parents. There seems to be lots of HOLLANDs in Athens, but I believe that her grandmother would have been Elizabeth HOLLAND who ? married BROWN. She is in the 1850 census with three children. That census also shows Wm. C. HOLLAND with a 8 mo. old baby named Elizabeth Ann.

I would like anything on William E. BEAIRD, my father, who was born in the area & died there in March 1993, he served in the US Army Air Corp from 1941-1945 several military awards. I think he was born in Trinidad, near Athens. Bill Beaird
