Looking for information on John T. (possibly Thomas) JONES, born June 1859 in TN. Parents allegedly killed in house fire during/after the Civil War; John T. came to Henderson Co. as a boy with a family named ARMSTRONG, who may or may not have been relatives. Mr. ARMSTRONG's name was William and Mrs. ARMSTRONG's name was Puss. John T. was in Hardeman Co. TN in the 1880 census, and married Martha Elizabeth MCGLOTHLIN there 7 Dec. 1882. They moved to Henderson Co. c1895. Two of their sons, Elbert Otis (1896) and Jesse Brian (1900) were born there. Other sons born in TN included Lee Ollie Lafayette (1882), Charles, and Roy. Elizabeth JONES died in 1901, and John T. married Annie POTTER. He died in Henderson Co. in 1944. I am most particularly interested in parents/siblings of John T. and in any info about his sons.

Seeking information on Nicholas JOHNSON, born Nicolai Osmundsen OMLAND on 3 April 1839 in Norway. Emigrated to Texas in 1850 with his father Osmund JOHNSON (1805-1864) and mother Kari JOHNSON (1811-1886). Settled near Brownsboro in Henderson county. Nicholas is listed in the 1860 census of Henderson as a wagon maker, which is the last reference I can find of him. I suspect he may have gone off to the war and never came back.

I am trying to verify the name of my great-great-grandfather BUCHANAN. I have information that his name might have been J.N. BUCHANAN and that he was buried in Malakoff, Henderson Co., Texas. The undertaker was suppose to be J.A. Ballard. Also have him being married to an OLA. They would have had four boys named Riley BUCHANAN, Charley BUCHANAN, James Marion BUCHANAN, and Henry BUCHANAN. The four boys raised themselves after their father died. The mother of these four boys supposely died when Henry BUCHANAN was three years old, that would put the time around 1881. The father supposely died a year later around 1882. I am hoping that an obituary notice would list who J.N. BUCHANAN's surviving children would have been in order to see if they are the same as the four boys I have mentioned. Also any information on the names of the cemetaries in Malakoff, TX. And one other fact, their mother was suppose to be full blooded Comanche. Please write me back at Rumore@msn.com

NEELY - COLLINS PALO PINTO / HOOD / PARKER / ERATH Counties in Texas. Isaac Newton NEELY, Nancy COLLINS, Jesse COLLINS, Arthur Vinson NEELY, Charles NEELY. Know the family of Charles Neely, born 1820's, wife Jane Ann NEWTON, arrived in this area in the 1850's. Charles was born in Tennessee as was his first two sons (I.N. and A.V.) Arthur marries Julia A. Robinson. I.N. and A.V. were children of Charles first wife who the children list as having been born in Tenn, whereas Jane Ann NEWTON was born in Arkansas.Possible that the mother's first name was Louisa (both boys name their first girl Louisa). Any information on these families, where to verify or refute, would be greatly appreciated.

The families of DANIEL and FANCHER moved from Carroll County, Ar. to area around the county line of Henderson and Van Zandt. They did business in both county court houses. GRAY BYNUM FANCHER m SARAH DANIEL, daughter of BAZZELL DANIEL in Clay County, Il. in 1826. They, along with other FANCHER and DANIEL families migrat- ed to Carroll County, Ar. The GRAY BYNUM family, along with at least one of the DANIEL siblings moved to the Henderson, Van Zandt area around the late 1840s. We know the GRAY BYNUM family, as well as WILLIAM DANIEL, a brother of SARAH'S were there in 1850. We have been told that BAZZELL was there as well. My gg grandparents OLe OLSON BUJORD and Kjersti emigrated from Norway in 1846 along with some of their children Sven, Birgit, and Berte. They settled in Brownsboro in Henderson County. In 1849 Ole died and after a few years the rest of the family moved to Bosque Co. I am interested in finding living relatives of myself and the OLSONs. I am researching the family of my great-grandfather Benjamin SOWELL, from Ponta, Cherokee County, TX. He was half Cherokee Indian. He was married to Julia GARTMAN, but later divorced.The 1900 census lists them with the following children: Jim b. March 1880, Frank b. Oct. 1882, Rosa b. Oct. 1884, Lillie b. May 1887, Corrie b. March 1889, Minnie b. April 1891, Bird Mora b. Oct. 1893 and Ollie b. Oct. 1895 (this last one is actually Orie Lee, my grandmother). Rosa or Rosie married a BREWER and lived in Dallas. Another sister, I don't remember which one, married a MILLER. I have an old postcard/picture of Frank SOWELL's children. Their names are Homer, Iva and Herman. His parents are believed to be from South Carolina, born between 1781 and 1785. The WALDRIP name is also spelled as WALDROP, WALDROPE, and WALDRUP. Anderson's Father's name is not known, and the only known name for Anderson's mother is a first name of Rebecca. Anderson also worked land in Lafayette county, Arkansas and Henderson County, Texas. Anderson Died 10 March, 1887 in Robert Lee, Texas. Anderson Married Mary Ann Martin and had 9 children, all born in Texas. JOHNSON and his mother's name was PERMILIA or PARMILLA. It is impossible to read on the 1870 census. Robert had a sister named ALABAMA W. JOHNSON who married A. CONE and had a son named ADAM CONE in 1869. There may have been a brother named DANIEL D. JOHNSON also. I am looking for information on J. L KEITH who married Mary A. CONE of the Thomas E. Cone family in 20 July 1883. He was previously married to her sister Sarah CONE on 27 August 1881. From his marriage to Mary he had four children, one died as infant and three males named Cord KEITH B. 10/1886,John Tarley KEITH B.6/1889 (My grandfather), and Willie L. KEITH B. 2/1891. I can find no record of J. L. KEITH in the 1880 census although he paid taxes in Cherokee Co. up through 1890 and 1891 in Henderson Co. The 1900 Census list Mary Keith as a widow. I need information on his ancesors. His middle name could be "labour,Laban or Labern" There are currently related KEITH's living in Cherokee Co. although I have lost track of them.

Looking for the JOHNSON and LOWES Family that moved to Navarro County and Henderson County around. The first is Artimisia JOHNSON-LOWE b. 1851. She was married to Phillip LOWE who was a Past-Master of a Masonic Lodge in the area. Towards the end of the century or late 1890 they moved to Oklahoma. The second was Frankie Jane JOHNSON-LOWE b.1857. She married Thomas LOWE who was the older brother of Phillip. After Thomas died she married N.A. GLASS. After N.A. died she married William TERRY, who she stayed with until his death. Artimisia and Frankie had a brother Richard Webster JOHNSON b.1867 who they raised after their parents died in Lamar County. Richard married a lady with the initals of F.J. and had a daughter named Fannie JOHNSON.

SNEAD family (later changed to SNEED; including Samuel Thomas SNEAD who moved from Alabama in the late 1860s or 70s after serving in the Civil War. He was married by this time; wife's name is not known. One son was Columbus C. SNEED, born in the mid 1860's near Phoenix City, Alabama; both Sam and son, Collie (Columbus) farmed land in Henderson County near turn of the century. Sam is apparently a widower by this time. Collie married Sarah Lorena WILLIAMS in 1901 and they had about 5 children including Elmer SNEAD (my grandfather); living in Athens until about 1910. He was first one down in Carlsbad Caverns but the man who worked for him Jim White got credit. I have proof but would like more info. Any info on Etta LONG would be appreciated.
