Important-Read First     The "1890 US Census, Harris County, Texas - Special Schedule.-Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, and Widows, etc.," was transcribed, edited and compiled utilizing several sources. The quality of handwriting from the schedules of S.D. 2, E.D. 56 was very poor and required extensive interpretation, which effectively associated considerable error in the names listed. The enumerators also mistakenly recorded Confederate Veterans in addition to Union veterans as required. Therefore, many of the Confederate Veteran names were "lined out" by census headquarters, making them nearly unreadable for transcription. Additional sources were utilized to help in the verification and comparison of the actual data and it's probable transcriptional form. Additional names have been added, either indicated by parenthesis or in their own unique field. The intention is to present potential transcription possibilities that may be captured by search engines. This index and the eventual transcription, both not in final form and still being a work in progress, should be utilized only as a guide for further research and study.  For comments and/or questions please contact me, Douglas Anderson.
