The marriage records of Coleman County, Texas began with the marriage of J. L. Clayton and Martha Jane Hunter on July 17, 1873. The first marriages which took place in the county are shown as occurring at Camp Colorado, as the city of Coleman was not founded until 1874. The first marriage shown as taking place in the city of Coleman did not occur until September 1876. Prior to 1874, when the city of Coleman was founded, Coleman County was still judicially attached to Brown County, so all marriage licenses for couples living in Coleman County would have been issued in Brown County or some other county. This listing covers the first four volumes (I , II, III, IV) of the marriage records of Coleman County (July 17, 1873 through October 10, 1907). These marriage records were compiled and typed by Vena Bob Gates of Talpa, Texas, and were formatted and originally printed in a copyrighted work, Coleman County, Texas Marriage Records, 1873 - 1907 in 1995. These records are used in the web publication with permission from the copyright holders. Please feel free to use these records in your genealogical research, but not for commercial use. All names were transcribed as recorded in the marriage records. You will note some variations in the spelling of some names. These are probably clerks' errors, which you have seen in all of your genealogical research, no matter when or where. Some may have transcription errors. As with all compilations of records, this work should be checked against the original record for accuracy, as many errors can creep in during transcription. Due to the size of table I have used on the marriage pages, when errors are found, the correction is made on the original page, but it is not added to the page it should have been on. NOTE: There are no names beginning with the letter "X." |
