John and Sarah Pitts

John Butler and Sarah Nevada
(Jeffus) Pitts came to Coleman County in
1904 from Ellis County (see Waymon Dixon
Pitts). John (1867-1937) was born in
Arkansas and Nevada (1869-1949) was born in
Lamar County, Texas, both buried in
Coleman. To this union two children
were born:

Charles Wesley (1899-1969), born in Ellis
County, buried in Coleman, married Clement
Dibrell (1899-1976), March 18, 1914.
She was born in Coleman, buried in Coleman,
the daughter of J. C. and Margaret (Mooney)
Dibrell (see William
Carter Dibrell). They had four
children:
(1a) Elizabeth Clementine (born March 2,
1915), married Charles M. Wagner, June 6,
1944. They had two daughters:
Elizabeth Ann and Judith Mae.
Elizabeth is a retired accountant.
Charles is retired from the Nueces County
Electric Co-op. They live in Corpus
Christi.
(1b) Charles Wesley Jr. (March 23, 1917)
married Georgia Sparkman, June 20, 1946.
(see Sparkman) Charles is a retired
engineer from the Celanese Plant in Bishop,
and Georgia is a retired teacher.
(1c) Jane Beryl (September 24, 1921) married
Winfred O. Atchley, September 8, 1943 (see
Robert H. Atchley).
(1d) Marian Katheryn (September 22, 1927)
married Glen Harold Phillips (see Glen
Harold Phillips).

Mable Eunice (1899-1983) born in Ellis
County, died in Tarrant County. She
married Ira Stafford. He was a postal
employee. They were active in the
Methodist church and civic activities in
Fort Worth.
When John and
Nevada Pitts came to Coleman County, they
bought land on Hords Creek, four miles west
of town. He was a stockfarmer and a
very active member of the Methodist Church.
Charlie and Clement Pitts in 1914 bought
land adjacent to John and Nevada's
land. They were stock farmers and ran
a dairy for sometime. In 1937, Charlie
helped to organize the Coleman County
Electric Co-op, and was its president for
several years. In 1975, Clement,
Elizabeth, Charles, Jane and Kathryn sold
their home place to the Taylor and Rhone
Brothers.
