James Martin Hickox, born October 19, 1829 in Pisgah, (Bruceton) Cooper
County, Missouri, and Nancy Ann Reavis, born December 11, 1831 in Missouri,
were married February 3, 1852 in Missouri. They had a daughter, Maria
Elizabeth, born November 16, 1852 in Missouri, who married John Talbot
in January 1868. They had a daughter, Ophelia Cynthia October 31,
1869 who married William Mitchell Ledford, born December 28, 1855 in Cherokee
County, North Carolina. The Ledford’s three daughters: Lorene
Ione, February 14, 1898 at Keller and Eunice and Bernice (twins) August
18, 1901 - November 10, 1901, both buried in Talpa. William Ledford
died December 26, 1928.
James and Nancy Hickox went to Austin in 1854 and their son, Thomas
Fenton, was born there January 17, 1855. They came to Talpa in about
1887 to be near their son, Thomas Fenton (see Thomas
Fenton Hickox). James Hickox died January 28, 1906, Nancy Ann,
June 21, 1910, both buried in Talpa. There is a Masonic emblem on
his headstone. They were my great grandparents.
The April 16, 1910 Census for Coleman County, Precinct #5 shows Nancy
A. Hickox as head of the household and her father and mother were born
in North Carolina. It also shows a granddaughter, Anne Fomrell, age
36, single, born in Texas; her parents were also born in Texas. Anne
was a milliner at Talpa. |
