James Dewey (Dood) Henderson was born June 7, 1898 in Bell County,

The family came to Coleman County in the early 1900’s. Dood was a
farmer in Coleman County most of his life. He married Edna Irene
Cannon (see S. L. Cannon), September 21, 1921. They had two children,
Oran Clay and Jimmie Sue. Dood and Edna were active in the Baptist
Church; he was a deacon at the time of his death in 1965. Poor health
ended Dood’s ability to farm. He and his wife lived in Brownwood

W. Blue). In May, 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, in the
99th Infantry Division. He was sent overseas in September of 1944.

1945, while he was still officially listed as missing in action.
He returned to Santa Anna in June 1945. From 1946 until 1967 Oran
was either employed or self-employed in various aspects of the oil industry-exploration,
wireline services, spinner surveys. In the year 1967 Oran achieved
his boyhood dream with the purchase of a stock farm in Coryell County where
he lived until his death, March 20, 1978, after a long battle with leukemia,
