Boone, Lillie Faye
Lillie (Faye) Boone of Elkhart, Texas passed away on October 7, 2018 at Palestine Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was 90 years old at the time of her death.
Faye was born September 8, 1928 in Hickory Grove, Texas. She graduated from Slocum High School in 1947, one month after marrying Albert Boone on April 19, 1947.  Faye became a homemaker and mother of three, eventually moving to Texas City, Texas where she lived for 25 years. She delayed college in order to have a family but began attending College of the Mainland (COM) part-time, determined to receive a college degree. She was proud to receive her Associates Degree from COM in 1970 as the first class whose graduation ceremony was held in the new building. After that, Faye received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Houston in 1975.
Faye loved teaching kindergarten at Heights Elementary in Texas City and later at Southside Elementary in Palestine, Texas. She moved back to Elkhart, Texas after Albert retired from Monsanto, fully enjoying the remainder of her career and retirement. She loved to cook, sew, and garden; sharing food and vegetables with those in need and those she loved. She was an active member of Northside Baptist Church in Texas City and later Elkhart First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School at both.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Lenard and Modell Howard, her husband of 69 years, Albert, and her sisters Lucy Howard and Glenna Howard. Survivors include son William (wife Jan) Boone, daughters Marilyn Baker (fiance Dennis Stockman), and Marcelyn Boone, and grandsons Casey and Chad Baker, as well as numerous neighbors who she considered to be family.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 11 at 10 A.M., with visitation scheduled for Wednesday 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., at Bailey and Foster Chapel in Palestine, Texas with Rev. Jason Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at Guiceland Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Casey Baker, Eddie Boone, Mark Edwards, Lester Edwards, David McKinney, and Ed Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, family request donations be sent to Elkhart First Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.

Burke, John Weldon
John Weldon Burke passed away peacefully on Thursday, the 29th day of March, 2018 in Palestine at the age of 92. Weldon was born on the 1st day of August, 1925 the oldest child of John Ronald Burke and Etta Coleman. Weldon was born in Elkhart, Texas and graduated from Elkhart High School. He attended Elkhart Church of Christ.  He married Betty Maxine Gammage on the 22nd day of December, 1945. Weldon's grandparents were John Franklin Burke and Judie Anne Parker. Judie Anne was the daughter of John Parker and Cynthia Faith Bennett. John was the son of Elder Benjamin Parker and Irene Douthit, Benjamin was the son of Elder Daniel Parker, the founder of Pilgrim Church, and Daniel was the son of Elder John Parker who was a soldier in the American Revolution and died at Ft. Parker in 1836 when his granddaughter, Cynthia Ann, was captured by the Comanche Indians.
Weldon was retired from Dan Pennington Road Construction Company, Grapeland, Texas. After several years of being retired Mr. Burke decided to go back to work. He worked for Anderson County Precinct 1 Commissioner, Truman Starr, as a Road Foreman. After retiring for the second time, Mr. Burke continued with his cattle ranching on his farm in the Redtown Community where he was often referred to as Mayor of Redtown. He worked a full day, every day of his life. He was a good friend in the community and always ready to help his neighbors.
One of his great enjoyment and hobby was talking to his CB Buddies first thing every morning and evening while drinking his cup of coffee. He was a big fan of the Astros and Texas Rangers baseball teams.
For many years he was very involved with Pilgrim Cemetery Association, serving as Chairman of the Grounds Committee. He also served as Chairman of the Parker Reunion, held annually at Ft. Parker in Mexia, Texas.
Weldon is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Maxine Gammage, in 2011; parents, John Ronald Burke and Etta Coleman; brothers, Harold Fletcher Burke and Dell Ross Burke; sister-in-law, Wanda Burke; nephews, Paul Burke, John Burke and Grady Burke.
He is survived by his daughters, Judy Taylor and husband Jerry of Palestine, Vicki Stanfield and husband Tommy of Palestine; brothers, Don Burke and wife Sue of Elkhart, David Burke of Elkhart; sister-in-law, Patsy Burke of Elkhart; sister, Sandra Hood and husband Marc of Eastland; grandchildren, J'Ann Sartain and husband Lee of Palestine, Matthew Burke Reynolds of Beach City;
great-grandchildren, Noah Alexander, Aven Alexander, both of Palestine, Mason Burke Reynolds and Macoy Burke Reynolds, both of Beach City and Shiloh Sartain of Palestine; nephews,
Richard Burke and wife Michelle of Mesquite, Terry Burke and wife Lauri of Houston, Christopher Hood of Eastland and Ronald Burke and wife Hailley of Elkhart; nieces, Karen Stubblefield and husband Lyndall of Pearland, Kathy Hampshire of Rusk, Jan Stuteville and husband Mitchell of Elkhart, Staci Burke and husband Jerry Chaffin of Spring, Rita Parker and husband Roger of Elkhart and Connie Coleman of Houston.
The family is immensely grateful for the outstanding care and compassion provided by the staff of Cartmell Home for Aged and Solaris Hospice.
Friends are cordially invited to gather and celebrate Weldon's life from five o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Monday, the 2nd day of April, in the Parlor and Reflection Room of Rhone Funeral Home.
The family will gather for a private interment at Pilgrim Cemetery in Elkhart, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Matthew Reynolds, Lee Sartain, Noah Alexander, Mason Reynolds, Macoy Reynolds, Ronald Burke, Richard Burke, Terry Burke and Christopher Hood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Truman Starr, Ken Peters, Jack Selden, Blake Farmer, Ben Farmer, Edwin Ellis, Phillip "Fifthwheel" Pegoda, Ronnie "Grasscutter" Gibson and all Mr. Burke's CB Buddies,

Cook, Florence
ELKHART - Funeral services for Florence Cook, 91, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Washington Chapel Church with the Rev. James Kemp, the Rev. Calvin Carter, the Rev. Doyle Cook Jr.,
and the Rev. Hezekiah Stallworth officiating.
Burial will be in Bluff Springs Cemetery in Elkhart by McCoy Funeral Home of Palestine.
Mrs. Cook died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Elkhart, the daughter of Odie and Edna Rice Gilford. She was a homemaker and lifelong member of Bluff Springs Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Cook of Elkhart, James Cook of Plainview and Leroy Cook Jr. of Palestine; two sisters, Iva Lee Taylor and Betty Felder, both of Houston; three brothers,
Willie O. Gilford and James E. Gilford, both of Houston, and Tyree Gilford of Oakland, Calif.; 34 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 45 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Leroy Cook Sr.; two infant daughters; three sons, Claybon Cook Sr., Andrew Cook and Clearthur Cook Sr., and brothers Herman Gilford and Wilbert Gilford are deceased.

Davis, Andrew "Drew" James
June 11, 1935 - November 21, 2018
Services for "Drew Davis" age 83 of Palestine will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday December 1, 2018 at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Chaplain Randall Ator officiating. Burial will follow
in Palestine City Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab Center in Palestine. He was born June 11, 1935 to Strode V. Davis and Lola Wilkinson Davis in their home
on Ezell Street in Palestine. Drew attended schools in Palestine, graduating Palestine High School in 1953. In his teen years Drew worked for the City of Palestine and The Texas Theater. He attended
Tyler Jr. College before transferring to the University of Houston. He worked for the City of Houston as a draftsman. In 1956 he started working for Trunkline Gas and Pipeline Company and Panhandle
Eastern where he remained until his retirement. Drew served our country in the US Air Force Reserve stationed at Ellington AFB in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Strode Jr., sisters, Dorothy Manley, June Freeman, Jean Dickson, and Ann Miller, his ex-wife Marie Coker Davis and nephew Murphy Manley.
Drew is survived by his companion Geneva Giertz, son Wayne and wife Faiha, daughter Andrea Ramsey and husband Brian, grandson Stephen Casey and wife Chastity, cousins, Elvira McCall,
JoAnn DuPuy, Ben Davis, Frank and Lloyd Goodson, Delores Overton and many nieces and nephews who enriched his life.
The family wishes to thank Encompass Home Health and Hospice Plus, especially Andrea, Amber, and Chaplain Randall, who have been so dedicated and helpful to Drew.

Davis, Aubrey Euel
Aubrey Euel Davis was called home on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 at his residence in Palestine, Texas at the age of 91.
He moved from Carrizo Springs, Texas where he lived with his wife and their four children since 1959. While in Carrizo Springs, he owned and operated Davis Vacuum Truck Service,
was a faithful member of the Carrizo Springs Church of Christ, and was a devout husband, father and loving grandfather. He was known for his humor and playful and mischievous pranks,
which his family still cherishes.
Aubrey was the fourth of eight children born May 14, 1922 to Mamie Moren Davis and Earl A. Davis in Foreman, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorene Arnold Davis; and two sons, Jimmy Doyle Davis and Bobby Earl Davis.
He is survived by one son, Billy (LouAnn) of Premont; and one daughter, Phyllis (Bill) Cooper of Palestine;13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Geraldine Paroll of California.
Services will be held at a later date at Gravelly Cemetery in Foreman, Ark.

Davis, Charles Dew
Services for Charles Dew Davis, 86, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Caskey officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park cemetery.
Mr. Davis died Saturday in a local nursing home.
He was born June 20, 1926 at Post, Texas to Grady Davis and Myrtle Goswick Davis.
He was a member of the North Jackson Baptist Church. During the Korean War, he was a Marine SeaBee. He later was employed as a tool-pusher for W. B. Hinton Drilling Company.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delorise Goswick Davis; two sons, Samuel and Chauncey Davis; great-grandson, Laney Chapman; three sisters, Marynell Crawford,
Wanda France and Dortha Reep; and two brothers: Grady and Calvin Davis.
He is survived by four daughters, Cintha Toole and husband Glynn of Palestine; Reana Caskey and husband Tommy of Grapeland, Yvonne Downing and husband Darryl of Palestine;
and daughter-in-law Nancy Davis of Slocum; son Raythan Davis of Ft. Worth; three sisters: Claudine Irwin of Snyder, Helen Thomas of Post, Lillie Blacklock of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren and
19 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbears. Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Dickson, Jean Davis
Graveside services for Jean Davis Dickson, 86, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. today at Palestine City Cemetery, with the Rev. David Luckert and Kenn Sommerville officiating.

Mrs. Dickson died Wednesday in Tyler.

Faust, Bonnie Jones
Graveside services for Bonnie Jones Faust age 83 of Elkhart will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday September 18, 2019 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart with Father Jonathan Frels officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Faust passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 at Elkhart Oaks Nursing Center. She was born on November 20, 1935 in Elkhart, Texas to Turner Jones and Vergie Peterson Jones.
She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1954, and married Joseph V. Faust, Jr. on September 15, 1956 in Waco, Texas. Mrs. Faust and her husband Joseph moved to Elkhart in 1989 after living
in California for 15 years following his career in the Air Force. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palestine. She experienced a full life of travel, family and friends.
Mrs. Faust was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Faust, Jr., a brother Bobby Jones, son-in-law David Hooker, and granddaughter Anna Hooker. She is survived by her three children,
Joseph Faust, III and wife Cathy of Elkhart, daughter Cindy Hooker of Coarsegold, California, and daughter Cathy Bailey and husband Bill of Elkhart, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren,
and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jake Faust, Bill Bailey, Cody Bailey, Michael Lacey and Tim Corbitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Cowboy Ron and Johnny Nichols.

Franklin, Cheyenne Elizabeth "Precious"
Services for Cheyenne Elizabeth "Precious" Franklin, 17, of Elkhart will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elkhart High School Gym with the Rev. Randall Reeves and the Rev. Charles McShan officiating.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Chinquapin Cemetery in Walton, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Miss Franklin went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday in Elkhart. She was a junior in Elkhart High School where she was an active athlete, playing softball and volleyball. She was a high school cheerleader, member of the National Honor Society, Interact Club, and the Elkhart FFA. She was a member of the Denson Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Miss Franklin was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bob Franklin; and an uncle, Robert Lee "Bronco" Franklin.
She is survived by her parents, Curtis "Beaver" and Lana Franklin of Elkhart; grandparents, Jerry and Brenda Crouch of Elkhart, Wendall and Patsy Franklin Caskey of Grapeland, and Jonel Henderson of Jacksonville; sisters, Hope Harris and husband Dakoda of Nacogdoches, and Faith Franklin and husband Luke McGinn of Elkhart; a brother, Curtis "Lil Beaver" Franklin Jr. of Elkhart; aunts and uncles, J and Shelia Allen of Elkhart, Wade and Renee Crouch of Grapeland, Johnny and Brenda Franklin of Elkhart, Tommy and Lisa Franklin of Alvarado, Will and Retta Adair of Tennessee Colony, Ricky and Shirley Bridges of Grapeland, and Joe and Judy Erwin of Hemphill; nephew, Landyn McGinn and niece Izzy Harris, and numerous cousins.

Garrison, Devoin
Funeral services for Devoin E. Garrison, 92, of Elkhart will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Elkhart with Revs. Bill Rambo and Barney Hutson officiating.
Burial will follow at Guiceland Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Garrison passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born on September 8, 1922, in Salmon, Texas to Oscar and Minnie Garrison. Mr. Garrison lived all of his life in Anderson County. He was a retired farmer and truck driver and managed
the Grapeland Plum Shed for many years. He served in the US Army Air Corps. Mr. Garrison was one of the founders and deacons of Salmon Baptist Church and a member and deacon of the
First Baptist Church of Elkhart. He served on the Board of Trustees for Elkhart Independent School District, served on the Elkhart City Council, and also served on the Board of Directors of
the Guiceland Cemetery Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Woody; brothers, Elbert Garrison, Eddie Garrison, Troy Garrison, and Herbert Lee Garrison;
and his wife, Mary Garrison.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Myers Garrison of Elkhart; children, Sharron Perez (Ines) of Buda, Judy Harwick (Jerry) of Anderson, IN, and Donna McEwen of Jacksonville;
brother, S.O. "Sam" Garrison (Karen) of Sabine Pass; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be John Garrison, Joe Garrison, Shane Huff, Bill Vaughn, Michael Dunnam, Rod Eggleston, and Skip Rackley.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Hackett, James M. Sr.
James M. (Big Bud) Hackett Sr., of Elkhart, Texas went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.
He was born to Robert Jackson Hackett and Rosa Mae Weir Hackett on Feb. 21, 1927, in Marlin Texas.
He had six brothers and four sisters. He was retired from the United States Air Force in 1971 and from the Texas Department of Corrections in 1990. He was a farmer/rancher for many years.
He was married for 64 years to the love of his life, Jenna Ruth Pack Hackett, in 1949.
He is survived by his wife; his three children, James M. (Buddy) Hackett and his wife Christine of Elkhart, Pamela Alford and her husband Larry of Elkhart, and Joel K. Hackett of Austin;
three grandchildren, Elaine Alford of Palestine, Lauren Alford York of Elkhart, and Milisa Hackett of Athens; two step-grandchildren, Tammy Peckinpaugh of Georgia and Sherry Thompson of Elkhart;
two great-grandchildren, Wyatt York and Austyn York of Elkhart; and four step-great-grandchildren, Kylie, Nash, Jake, and Will.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Mark Hackett; and eight of his siblings.
He was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Elkhart Masonic Lodge 400. He had served in every office including Master, and had received his 50 year pin.
He is most remembered for his love of the land, his overalls, his tractor, his horses and cows, and most of all his family.
Masonic graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Cedar Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel.

Ham, Ford Edison
Ford Edison Ham was welcomed with loving arms into the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday evening December 29th. He had been in Hospice in Mount Pleasant, Texas
for only a few days. He was 98 years young.
Services will be held at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel at 3pm on Friday, January 2, 2015. Visitation will be held one hour before the service from 2 to 3 pm.
Interment will be at Palestine City Cemetery. Masonic service will be provided by Elkhart Masonic Lodge #400.
Ford was born August 14, 1916, in Lovington, New Mexico to Slack Ivey Ham and Ada Courtney Ham, who have preceded him in death. Also waiting for him are his wife Mildred Inez Tucker Ham,
wife of 64 years, his brothers Melton, Ivey L. and Jack D. Ham and two sisters Maudie Graham and Pearl Ham and grandson Kevin Lane Ham.
Ford grew up in Eagle Lake, Texas and graduated from school there. He was a member and graduate of the Class of 43K 215 Army Air Force and Flight Instructor for Class of 44
on B-25 and B-26 at Randolph Air Force Base; a veteran of World War II.
A resident of Houston for 40 years he was the owner of the former Ham's General Hardware on Jensen Drive. One of the Founders of the Handy Hardware Association and
Retired from the City of Houston as the Senior Real Estate Property Appraiser.
Ford was Past President of the North East Houston Kiwanis Club.
He has been a Mason for 74 years, a member of Tranquility Lodge 2000 (on the moon), past master of Elkhart Lodge #400, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the of the Grand Lodge of Texas
and a member of Texas Lodge of Research. He was also an active member of York Rite Bodies, the Scottish Rite Temple, Sharon Shrine of Tyler, Royal Arch and Knights Templar Lodge.
Ford is a Past Patron of Oak Forest Chapter of Order of Eastern Star #1080 in Houston and also of Palestine Chapter #395.
Ford was ordained Deacon in Bethel Baptist Church, Houston, Texas and then served as a Deacon at Southside Baptist Church here in Palestine.
Ford is survived by sons and wives Ford Jr. and Bertie Ham, Mount Pleasant, David Wayne and Rama of Elkhart and one daughter and husband Lilly Carol and Bob Armstrong of Elkhart.
Three sisters Cordie Mae Wallace of Pledger, Jesse Bresik of Seabrook and Robbie Waldon of New London. Four grandsons Wayne and Stephen Ham of Elkhart, Christopher and Michael Thompson
of Elkhart and two granddaughters Carla Ham Croghan of Alaska and Lara Thompson Cotte of San Diego, California. Great grandchildren Stephen Kjelstat of Bellingham Washington,
Will and Tucker Croghan of Alaska, Amanda and Justin Ham of Elkhart, Samantha Ham, Bryan Thompson, Lucas Boykin, Allyson Thompson and Erica Thompson of Elkhart and
Nation William Thompson of Elkhart. Great great grandson Elijuahn Erksine.

Kirkwood, Sallie Hopper
Services for Sallie Hopper Kirkwood, 89, will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Crawford Cemetery with the Rev. Craig Harris officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Kirkwood died Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born Oct. 18, 1923 in Pert, Texas to George Washington and Alice Rhodes Hopper.
Mrs. Kirkwood graduated from Neches High School and married James Oren (J.O.) Kirkwood on June 3, 1942. They were married for 68 years.
She was well known for being an avid baker and a great seamstress. She made many a cake for local citizens and friends. She was known for making prom, formal, and wedding dresses for
friends and her daughters. She was a champion candy maker and everyone looked forward to the holidays because of her candy and cakes. She was a second mother to many of her family and friends' children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.O., in 2010; a daughter, Carol Kirkwood Lively; a son-in-law, Harry Moore; great-grandchildren, James Pitts, Seldon and Mason Studdard; and sisters, Cora Bell Goodman and Lorene Kirkwood; and sisters-in-law, Elee Shaver and Zelma Moore; and brothers-in-law, Hollis Kirkwood, J.D. Goodman, Collis Everitt, Gordon Muse and J.C. Shaver.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Moore of Burleson, Ann Platt of Elkhart, Lela Calloway of Palestine, James Kirkwood Jr. and wife Sherry of Palestine, Patsy Black and husband Gene of Elkhart, Mark Kirkwood of Elkhart, and Tammy Young and husband David of Tyler; and son-in law, A.D. Lively of Jefferson; grandchildren, Tracy Ragan of Lindale, Cynthia Barton of Bastrop, Michelle Congleton of Elkhart, Audra Wells of Huffman, Leah Glenn of Corpus Christi, Kirk Moore of Fort Worth, Kristy Kirkwood of Palestine, Susan Pullen of Early, John Studdard of Palestine, Gena Lohmeyer of Elkhart, Bradley Kirkwood of Elkhart, Maegan Black of Palestine, Caitlin Young of Tyler; stepgrandchildren, John Paul Riley and Kellie Reeder, both of Palestine. She also is survived by 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Everitt of Shepherd, Texas and Sam Muse of Elkhart; brother-in law, Robert Moore of Plano; and numerous nieces and nephews; and Beverly VanDeman, who Sallie thought of as one of her own.
Pallbearers are James Kirkwood Jr., Mark Kirkwood, Kirk Moore, John Studdard, Bradley Kirkwood, Gene Black, David Young, Bob Riley and Jerry Worley.
Honorary pallbearers are A.D. Lively and James Sockwell.
Condolence calls will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster.

Moran, Garth
Services for Garth Moran, 90, of Elkhart, will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church Elkhart with the Rev. Bill Gernenz and the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating.
Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
Mr. Moran died Dec. 31 in Palestine.
