| NOTES: Elias was received into the First Baptist Church, Leon Co., TX, 1855. He bought land in Leon Co., TX in December 1854. Kinion Hawes (sometimes spelled Kinyon) died of Typhoid in MS followed, not long thereafter, by the deaths of his older brother and two daughters of his older brother of typhoid. His older brother's wife took her surviving children back to North Carolina from where they had come. Kinion's widow, Elizabeth, moved to Leon County with her parents and other family members in late 1854, bringing with her six children including the youngest who was born after Kinion's death. Within 10 years she had also died. The Odens lived around the Wheelock Creek area which was called Oden at that time. There was even a post office. Thomas J. Oden operated a grist mil and cotton gin powered by water from Wheelock Creek. Francis Marion Oden was in the C.S.A with RUSSELL RIGBY and W.B. RIGBY from Leon Co., TX Elias Jasper served in Co., D. 26th Texas DeBray's Regt. during the War of Northern Aggression. He was a Mason. The birth dates for Thomas J. Oden and Rebecca Ann Oden appear to be in conflict. They are based on the dates on the grave markers in the Wheelock Cemetery, Leon Co. |
