W. H. Culbertson
Mr. W. H. Culbertson is another Henderson county boy, born May
22, 1892, six miles east of Athens on a farm. After finishing his
grade schooling here he attended East Texas State Normal at
Commerce, and also Rusk Academy at Rusk, Cherokee county.
When he had prepared himself for it, Mr. Culbertson began
teaching school, and for several years he followed that
profession.
On October 9, 1917, Mr. Culbertson left as one of Uncle Sam's
soldiers for Camp Travis, at San Antonio, having cheerfully
answered the call to arms. On Feb. 16, 1918, he sailed for
overseas service, and had the honor of serving his country over
there for about fifteen months. He was allowed to said for home
in June, 19191. He got back in fine physical condition and his
first undertaking was a position with the First National Bank.
Mr. Culbertson was one of the organizers of the Palace Drug
Company. He severed his connection whit that company later, and
was for a time engaged in other mercantile pursuits. Two years
ago Mr. Culbertson bought into the Seed House, and is now its
manager. The concern does a wholesale and retail seed business as
well as carrying a full line of groceries. They also handle feed
and country produce.
Mr. Culbertson is one of the splendid young men of Athens. He is
proud of his home town and is always a booster for it. He was
married on August 31, 1919, to Miss Elizabeth Tindel. They have
one little daughter, Evelyn, aged five.
Mr. Culbertson is a member of the Masonic order of Athens, the I.
O. O. F. and American Legion. It is hardly necessary to state
that he is a Democrat. The name Culbertson stands for Democracy
in Texas.
