W. H. Culbertson

Mr. W. H. Culbertson is another Henderson county boy, born May 22, 1892, six miles east of Athens on a farm. After finishing his grade schooling here he attended East Texas State Normal at Commerce, and also Rusk Academy at Rusk, Cherokee county.

When he had prepared himself for it, Mr. Culbertson began teaching school, and for several years he followed that profession.

On October 9, 1917, Mr. Culbertson left as one of Uncle Sam's soldiers for Camp Travis, at San Antonio, having cheerfully answered the call to arms. On Feb. 16, 1918, he sailed for overseas service, and had the honor of serving his country over there for about fifteen months. He was allowed to said for home in June, 19191. He got back in fine physical condition and his first undertaking was a position with the First National Bank. Mr. Culbertson was one of the organizers of the Palace Drug Company. He severed his connection whit that company later, and was for a time engaged in other mercantile pursuits. Two years ago Mr. Culbertson bought into the Seed House, and is now its manager. The concern does a wholesale and retail seed business as well as carrying a full line of groceries. They also handle feed and country produce.

Mr. Culbertson is one of the splendid young men of Athens. He is proud of his home town and is always a booster for it. He was married on August 31, 1919, to Miss Elizabeth Tindel. They have one little daughter, Evelyn, aged five.

Mr. Culbertson is a member of the Masonic order of Athens, the I. O. O. F. and American Legion. It is hardly necessary to state that he is a Democrat. The name Culbertson stands for Democracy in Texas.
