S. C. Campbell, Eustace, Texas
In 1845 Elijah Campbell came from Alabama to Anderson Co., Texas, in 1853 was married to Miss Eliza Shockley, in 1860 moved to Smith Co. where he still lives. They had 10 children, 3 girls and 7 boys. The subject of this sketch S. C. Campbell was born April 12, 1869 in Smith Co., Texas, he was reared on the farm, remained on the farm until he reached the age of 21 years, during which time he had the advantage of the public schools of the country. At the age of 21 he entered Summer Hill select school of Omen, Smith Co. Being limited in means, he taught at intervals thus enabling him to prosecute his studies. In the Spring of 1897 he graduated. He chose the profession of teaching. After having taught 6 years in Smith Co. and 4 years in Henderson Co. he resigned the school room. In October, 1902 entered the merchantile business in the thriving little town of Eustace. On the 8th of December 1902 formed a partnership with G. J. Cook in general merchandise and they have the fullest confidence of the people in the surrounding country. They are prospering in business and no doubt have a bright future.
