M. A. Asher
M. A. Asher, cashier of the First State Bank of
Murchison is another one of the outstanding
citizens of Henderson county. Mr. Asher is a
Tennesseean by birth, having been born at
Dresden, Weekley county, on January 6th, 1889.
At five years of age the family moved to Missouri
and when Mr. Asher was 18 years of age the family
moved to Texas. He attended the State Teachers'
College at Denton for two years and later taught
school for three years. The last year of his school
work he served as principal of the Athens High School.
In 1912 he assisted in organizing the First State
Bank of Murchison and has been its cashier since.
In 1916 Mr. Asher was married to Miss Letha Core.
They have three sons and one daughter.
Mr. Asher registered for service in the late war but
was never called. He assisted in all the bond sales
in his community during the war period and was one
of the active men at home.
Mr. Asher is a member of the Masonic Lodge and
has taken the Scottish Rite degrees of that order.
He is also an active member of the Baptist Church
of his city and also a member of the K. P. lodge.
Politically, Mr. Asher is a republican, and as such
has performed valiant work for his party in a State
that is normally democratic. Mr. Asher is a member
of the Republican Executive Committee of the county
and his counsel is always sought by this party
