Levey Nolan Fulgham
Some men use one way and some another to choose an avocation,
but few use the unique method of the subject of this sketch, nor
could
many men make it effective as did Levey Nolan Fulgham, who
determining that he wanted to work in the bank at Brownsboro,
made
known his desire by walking into the bank, hanging up his hat and
stating the he had come to go to work. He was given some clerical
work to do and was soon advanced to the position of bookkeeper at
the princely salary of $40.00 per month.
His method of securing the work was brought about by the desire
of
his father that he take a course in business training at a
commercial
college. His success in obtaining the work was due largely to the
fact
that an elder brother was an official in the bank, who being
impressed
with the boy's determination, had the good judgment to accept the
situation and permit the desired business training to be acquired
through the very practical method of actual experience.
Mr. Fulgham was born in Van Zandt county, near Ben Wheeler,
January 26, 1900 and was reared upon the farm. He is a graduate
of
the Ben Wheeler school, having finished the course of study given
when he had reached the age of seventeen.
On leaving school he went early in 1918 to Brownsboro to take up
work in the First State Bank in the unusual manner above
described.
From his commandeered position of bookkeeper he was advanced to
the position of assistant cashier in which position he served
during the
year 1925 and was promoted to the cashier's desk in February
1926,
his present position.
Mr. Fulgham was united in marriage January 10th 1925 to Miss
Charlsie Palmer, who is like himself a native of Van Zandt
county. At
the time this is written their baby boy is five months of age.
Secretary of the local Masonic Lodge, Mr. Fulgham is also a
member of
the Methodist Church.
Forcing his advantage of an early beginning in the business world
and
blessed with a keen business sense and good judgment and a
devotion to his duties he is certainly destined to add to his
early
success in the field of business that he has chosen for his life
work,
and is entitled to his niche in the record of "Men of
Affairs" of his
adopted county.
