J. E. Young
Although born in Polk county, Ga., March 8, 1871, Joe E. Young of
LaRue may properly lay claim to being a native Henderson Countian
as
he came with his parents to the New York community when he was
only
five years old, having spent all his life in that section. He was
farm
raised and got his schooling in the New York rural school.
He followed farming as an occupation until 1913, when he went
into
business with his brother at LaRue, under the firm name of Young
Bros.
That at once established as one of the substantial institutions
of the
town and county--a standing the business still maintains under
its
present style of J. E. Young & Son, Mr. Young having within
recent
years acquired the interest in the business of his brother.
Mr. Young's father died a few years after the family came to this
county
and Joe was made the protector of his mother and sister at the
tender
age of eleven years, remaining with them until the death of the
former
and marriage of the latter.
He was married to Miss Jeffie Gauntt, a member of one of the
pioneer
families of the county, to which union was born four boys and two
girls
one pair of the boys being twins.
Mr. Young was, and still is a successful farmer and still resided
on his
farm near LaRue. He is a member of the Methodist Church.
Politically
he is a Democrat, and though never having asked for office of his
party,
he is actively interested in its fortunes and never loses an
opportunity to
take part in its activities. He renders a full account of his
duties as a
citizen in those services men of his class are called upon to
perform in
furthering the interests of the community he has taken such large
part in
building.
