Athens Weekly Review
Sept. 24, 1925
J. F. Ash
Mr. J. F. Ash is an
Indianian by birth, having been born in
Petersburg, August 12,
1861, at the outbreak of the civil war.
He grew up and was
educated in his home state, and came to
Texas in the spring of
1893, locating in Henderson county on
a farm east of Athens,
where he now owns property and has
a fine peach orchard. As a
matter of fact, Mr. Ash was one of
the pioneers in the
Elberta peach industry in Henderson county.
He foresaw the
possibilities of producing fruit in this county for
the market and really
blazed the trail for others The peach industry
is one of the foremost in
the county and just this year much revenue
has been derived from that
one crop. But it took nerve and labor and
money to bring the people
to the realization of its value as a source
of revenue. Mr. Ash didn't
simply tell others what he thought about it.
He went out and
demonstrated by hard work and the expenditure of
money what could be done.
And he did Henderson county a distinct
service by so doing.
