Athens, Texas
The McDonalds are Scotch. They were of the "Clan

of our subject came from Highland Scotland with four brothers in
1773. They settled in Moore
county, NC.
These have a large progeny, widely scattered in the Southern
States. John McDonald is the father of
J.A. was born and reared in Moore county, NC. He married Miss
Mary E. Pinson in 1858. They had ten
children of whom Joseph is the eldest. John was a lawyer and held
many positions of trust in Henderson
county. He was Justice of Peace, County Attorney, member of the
legislature and County
Judge, etc., Miss Mary E. Pinson was born near Palestine and
reared there, when she was grown and
educated, she became the wife of John McDonald and the mother of
Joseph Angus. Joseph was born
in Cherokee county, Texas, September 10, 1859. He was educated in
the Athens schools. He chose the
law as a profession and was licensed in the Henderson county
courts, Sept. 23, 1885. Since then he
has been honored by his people with the offices of County
Attorney, 1886 to 1892, County Judge 1895
and 1896. He is District Attorney now of the 3rd Judicial
District, is a popular officer and is well
entrenched in the hearts of his people. In due time he married
Mary D. Evans (nee Mitcham.) They have
one baby boy. Mr. McDonald is a florid, impulsive good humored
spirit. He begins his new office under
most favorable auspices and we bespeak for him a pleasant and
successful term. He is public spirited
and gave us a warm hand of welcome and the kindliest
co-operation.
