Dan Browning
Mr. Dan Browning is another native born and reared
Henderson
county son. He was born August 2, 1886, in the Leagueville
community in this county, and his early education was received
in the country schools. He later attended the East Texas State
College at Commerce, and the State University. While attending
that institution, Mr. Browning enlisted in the world war, which
cut
short his university work. He enlisted in 1918, but he was soon
overseas, and saw some of the real fighting, being in several
major engagements. He came home in good physical condition,
however. Upon his return from overseas Mr. Browning took up
the work that he had left, that of teaching. In fact, the greater
part
of his life since attaining his majority, has been in school
work.
Fifteen years have been spent in that profession. He has been
principal of many of the best schools in the county.
Mr. Browning is an active Democrat and was elected county
clerk on that ticket. He is now serving on his second term in
that office and is making a splendid official. He likes
educational
work, however and will probably return to his favorite work
sooner
or later.
Mr. Browning has a wife and two children. His wife, prior to
marriage, was Miss Velma Morrison, of Greenville.
Mr. Browning is a member of the Masonic order, American Legion
and Knights of Pythias. He is one of the Progressive and loyal
citizens of Henderson county, being always ready to take a hand
in matters of interest to the community. No young man has a
cleaner record than Dan Browning in this county. He has spent
his life here, practically, and is satisfied to remain.
