C. I. Pickle
C. I. (Bud) Pickle, was born in Anderson County, Sept.
24, 1880, his parents moving to this county four years, later
settling in the Modoc community where Mr. Pickle has lived ever
since.
He attended the school in his community and finished his
educational studies by taking a commercial course in the Tyler
Commercial College.
March 5th, 1905, he was married to Miss Florence Richardson, and
set up housekeeping on the farm on which they now live, which has
been converted into one of the most attractive and well improved
homes in the county.
To the original farm of 77 acres inherited from his father's
estate Mr. Pickle has added 300 acres by purchase. He
follows a carefully mapped out plan of general farming in which
the growing of livestock forms an important part. This
program looks first to the production of those things needed for
both the human and livestock habitants of the farm, after which
the so called cash products are given their attention.
Standard bred swine and poultry are specialties on this
farm. Mrs. Pickle's flock of White Wyandottes shows up well
on the profit side of the ledger in comparison with the income
from other sources.
Mr. Pickle retains as a souvenir a canceled note for 828.75, the
only paper of a promissory character he ever executed in his
life. It was given as payment of the first installment on a
life insurance policy.
He began paying taxes on livestock before he was 21 years old and
has a poll tax for every year since reaching his majority.
He is a Democrat and never fails to exercise his privileged duty
as a voting citizen. Having no children himself does not
make him less devoted in supporting those measures for the
advancement of the school facilities in his community.
He is a substantial citizen, a good neighbor and enjoys the good
will, respect, and esteem of all who know him.
