June 24, 2010 while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom in Jelewar, Afghanistan

     Army Staff Sgt. Edwardo Loredo, 34, of Houston, Texas was serving during Operation Enduring Freedom, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment,4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.. He died June 24 in Jelewar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He joined the US Army in October of 1999 after graduation from Sam Houston High School. After he completed his training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was stationed at Camp Ederle in Vicenza, Italy. He deployed to Iraq in March of 2003 for a six month tour. In late summer of 2004 his initial enlistment was up, but he signed on for a another stint, deploying to Afghanistan in February of 2005 for a yearlong tour. Edwardo again returned to Iraq for a 14-month deployment in July of 2007 through September of 2008. Thirteen months later, he again deployed to Afghanistan in late 2009. He enjoyed his life in the Army, the friends he had made, the structured life, and had even met his wife while serving. He married Army 1st Sgt. Jennifer Laredo. Edwardo served combat tours in both Iraq and in Afghanistan and deployed to Afghanistan in December of 2009, and his wife deployed in May, though they were in different regions. Loredo was an adoring father and husband who loved spending time with his kids and cooking for his wife.  He is survived by his wife, 1st Sgt Jennifer Loredo; children Alexis, Eddie, and Laura; older brother Sylvester Loredo; and two younger brothers, Alfredo Crisostomo and Angel Cruz Crisostomo.  Burial is at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia

     His Awards and Decorations include, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, three Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2 device, four Overseas Service Ribbons, the Overseas Reserve Component Training Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
