J. W. Hartley Final Rites Conducted
Funeral services were held Jan. 31 for 79 year-old James Walter Hartley, Sr., who died Jan. 30 at 03:15 a.m. at his home near Buffalo after an illness of several months.
Hartley, who was born April 20, 1870, in Eden, N.C., was buried in the Dew Cemetery following services at the Dew Methodist Church. Officiating at the services were Rev. Monroe Sheets, Rev. W.H. Colson and Rev. Sam Jones.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Ella Hartley; six sons, Leroy Hartley, Buffalo, Dalton Hartley, Dew, James Hartley, Buffalo, Howard Hartley, Houston, Millard Hartley, Buffalo and Dillard Hartley, Buffalo; three daughters, Mrs. Rudolph Long, Dew, Mrs. Lester Lane, Dew, Mrs. Owen Lathrop, Buffalo; 32 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were his eight grandsons, Leroy Hartley, Jr., Tim Henson, Lester Lane,Jr., J.B. Lane, Thomas Earle Lane, Donald Hartley, Jay DeShazo and Harold Eugene Lathrop.
