Funeral services were held last Thursday, February 2, 1989, in Fairfield for Freestone Co. native Joe Fred Emmons, 91, who died Tuesday, January 31, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Emmons was born February 9, 1897, in Freestone county and lived in Fairfield. He was a retired cattle rancher and member of the First United Methodist Church.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. last Thursday at Capps Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bert Bagley, pastor of FUMC, officiating.

Special music was provided by Frank O'Banion.

Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Kellum, Arthur Patrick, Don Tolar, Weldon Terry, J. R. "Sonny" Sessions and Phillip Ivy. Honorary pallbearers were Woodrow Ivy, Dr. Bascom Bentley, E. D. Terry, Joe Richards, Dewitt Emmons, Travis Stripling, John L. Swank and Dr. John H. Keller, Jr.

Mr. Emmons is survived by his wife, Althea Roberts Emmons of Fairfield, a daughter, Ione Newton of Fairfield; two sisters, Alice Shroeder of Dallas and Ethel Hale of Fairfield; a brother, Leotha Evans of Dallas; two grandchildren, Lucky Newton of Fairfield and Renee Gunnels of Elkhart; and three great-grandaughters, Kristy Newton of Fairfield; and Misty and Amy Gunnels of Elkhart. Arrangements were made by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
