William Boyd
Death of Probably the Oldest White Citizen in the County
Mr. William Boyd, familiary called "uncle Billie" by all that knew him, died at his residence near Cotton Gin and the 10th inst.
The deceased was one of the oldest white men in the county, being 88 years old. We give the following sketch of his life: He was born in North Carolina in 1804, and at 3 years old was taken to Tennessee, where he lived until 1851, when to Nacogdoches county Texas, where he resided about fifteen years. He moved to this county about twenty six years ago, living all the time in the Cotton Gin community. He was remarkably healthy all his life, and died of no particular disease, having no fever, but as it were, his physical system just wore out, like a clock run down. His aged wife, to whom he was married 60 years died two years ago. The deceased was the father of Mr. L Boyd and Mrs. J.C.C. Keys, near Cotton Gin. A long and eventful life has been closed, one many milestones beyond the allotted "three score and ten." A good old man has gone to his reward.
