BIRTHDAY OF AGED CITIZEN OBSERVED BY DINNER
Relatives of J. F. James (Uncle Johnnie) of Turlington gathered in his home Sunday, March 17th, with a surprise dinner, the occasion honoring his 79th birthday, March 16th. The table fairly groaned with delicious eats, consisting of baked chicken and dressing, chicken pie, meat loaf, ham sandwiches, salads, English peas, spinach with boiled eggs, stuffed eggs, the lovely birthday cake, angel and caramel cake, chocolate, lemon and potato pie with marshmallow, fried half peach pies and assorted filled cookies with hot coffee. Uncle Johnnie viewed the table and said, "And all of this is mine? Well, I don't believe I can eat all this."
Those present for this happy occasion were John W. Payne, Coy Payne and daughter Elizabeth, of Huntsville; sister Mrs. Laura McAdams, Houston; sister, Mrs. Mary Williford of Huntsville; Mrs. Julia Goodman and children Lorraine and Lee; Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Bonner and son, Roy; Mr. and Mrs. L. E. (Elmer) James; Mrs. Boatner Cain and children, Elizabeth, Charles, and Delyght of Fairfield; Mr. and Mrs. Linton C. James and little daughter, Annette, of Mt. Zion and the honoree.
On departing each wished Uncle Johnnie many more happy birthdays and a hope of a like occasion for 1941.
