| NOTES: P. C. Whitaker's commission as a Major in the Army of the Republic of Texas is dated May 18, 1843 and signed by Sam Houston. He was an elected official in Falls Co. when he was shot and killed by his brother-in-law, Bill Hinton. He owned a plantation there with a two story house and several slaves. Becky Hinton married William B. Capps in MS and came to TX; Capps was killed by Indians; after P. C. Whitaker's death, she married Washington Steward, her daughter Jane's father-in-law, and moved her family to Stewards Mill. |
