NOTES: Bill McCrery's father died in a steamboat accident and he moved to Freestone Co. in 1853 with his grandfather, William Bonner, his guardian. He served in the CSA and was a farmer and owned large acreage. Arabella Bonner McCrery was the first music teacher in Stewards Mill and ledgers from the Stewards Mill store show money borrowed by customers to pay her. Bill McCrery died of a heart attack on the way home from Fairfield and was buried in Fairfield. His widow and 10 daughters moved to Corsicana and his body was reinterred there. They were members of the Presbyterian Church. |
