NOTES: OBIT from Fairfield Recorder Friday Jan. 15, 1897: J. T. Mayo died last Tuesday night Jan. 12, 1897 in Fairfield at the residence of his son Jabe C. Mayo. He suffered with cancer for a long time and while death was not expected it was none the less sad when the summons came that called him hence. The deceased was born in SC 74 years ago. He moved to GA from there to AL and from there to TX. He lived in Freestone Co about 15 years. His remains are interred at Lake Chapple Cemetery on Wards Prairie. Rev. F. O. Favre officiating Thus after a long useful life and another good citizen, neighbor and friend has joined the ranks of the great beyond. Verily he was a good old man and when those that he loved while here shall follow after, may he meet them, wearing the smile of everlasting joy. |
