Monty Webb & Husband

The bottom of the photo says:  Dublin, Wiseman,  Texas  Upstairs in Davis & Utterback Building

The back of the photo says:  Monty Webb and husband  (Sue's school mate)

At age 13 I find Sue Kate attending Washington School in Rhea Co, TN (1885).   Also listed are William B. Webb (age 15) , Harvey P. Webb (age 13) , and Larken N. Webb (age 18).

I don't know if this is the school referred to or not - possibly someone in your county will recognize them.   Sue Kate Smith (1872 - 1922) never married and lived with a sister, Lora, in Rhea Co, TN.

George Washington Wilkins

16 Mar 1824 - 22 May 1874

Citizen of the Republic of Texas

George W. Wilkins was a native of Georgia.  George and his family moved to Stephenville, Erath County, Texas in 1858 from Hunt County, Texas to get more land so his children would have the same opportunity that he had.

During the Civil War George served short stretches in the Texas Rangers and in the local Guard.  He also bought cattle for the Confederate Army and drove them east to Marshall to deliver to the Quartermaster Corps.  The Indians were still quite a problem then so George moved the family back to Commerce, Hunt County, Texas in 1865.

He married Melvina Jackson, daughter of Elijah and Olivia (Hart) Jackson.  His life long occupation was farming.  Both he and Melvina were members of the Primitive Baptist Church.  He was the father of nine children Olive, David, James, Mary, Sarah, Elijah, Baby deceased, Louisa, and George.

George and Melvina are buried in the Engram - Hart Cemetery in Delta County, Texas.
