503 West Walnut Street
Coleman, Texas

Legal Description:

In 1923, the dwelling which is now located at 503 West Walnut Street, was addressed as 300 and later 500 South Neches Street.  Between 1923 and 1930, it faced east (South Neches Street), and sometime after 1923 the original building was either removed and replaced with a similar dwelling, or it was enlarged, which I believe to be the case, by being added to on the northwest corner and the south side.  The front door was change to the north side (facing West Walnut Street) and it was then addressed as 503 West Walnut Street.

"In 1929, Gross L. Powers was residing at 503 West Walnut Street.  He was the owner of this dwelling.  Also residing at this address was J. W. Clark, and his wife Elsie.  He was a traveling salesman."  (Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)

"Erman L. Miller bought the house at 503 West Walnut Street in the fall of 1945.  He closed in the front and side porches and removed the wall between the kitchen and living room about 1975.  The front part of house was bricked at that time, and the back was bricked later.

"The garage was moved to the east side of the house by the Millers in 1945, with plans to add to the west side of the house.  However, the dining room, kitchen and back bedroom were converted to a larger kitchen, bath and closet, and larger master bedroom.  It was not recalled when the carport was built on the west side.

"Billy and Annie Brown bought the house from the Miller children in the fall of 1996."
