Before 1929, the dwelling which had been located at 416
- 420 South Commercial Avenue was moved west to the alley and rotated
90 degrees clockwise, to make room for Beach's Auto Service Station built
at 416 - 420 South Commercial Avenue. The dwelling was the home of
the Beach family and the address for this dwelling became 104 West Walnut
Street, as it now faced Walnut Street.
(Note From Ralph Terry:
In researching Arthur G. Beach, I find in the 1910 federal census of
Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio, that Arthur G. Beach was born in New
York about 1884. His wife was named Laurena (maiden name Housnick),
born about 1886 in Pennsylvania. They married about 1904 in
Pennsylvania, as their two sons were born in Union City, Pennsylvania,
Alton about 1905 and Alvin about 1907. Arthur is shown as a railroad
agent at that time. Laurena and Arthur divorced before 1920, as
Laurena, age 34, is living with her parents, Jacob and Mary Jane
Housnick in Union City, Pennsylvania when the 1920 federal census was
taken. Also living with them are the boys, Alton R., age 15, and Alvin
L. Beach, age 13.
I have not located Arthur G. Beach in 1920, but he had moved to Coleman
and opened a automobile service station between 1910 and 1929. He
died in 1929 and is buried at the Coleman Cemetery. Mrs. A. G.
Beach is shown living at 104 West Walnut Street on the 1930 federal
census for Coleman. She is shown as age 36, a widow, born about 1894 in
Texas. Living with her is her sister, Jewel Mitchell, age 38, and
niece, Nell Mitchell, age 8, along with two roomers, Josephine Hughes,
age 62, and Mrs. Leona Gott, age 37, both widows. All of these
women were born in Texas. Josephine Hughes was the mother of
Billie B. (Hughes) Beach. Billie B. died in 1955 and is also
buried at the Coleman Cemetery, along with many of the Hughes family
members.
Arthur's son, Alton R. Beach,
was living in Coleman by 1929 and was working at the A. G. Beach Auto
Service Station. He had married Lora G. (last name not known)
before 1929. They had at least two sons, and apparently moved to
Llano County, Texas about the time of Arthur's death. From Social
Security Death Indexes, Alton R. Beach was born 6 October 1904 and died
in Llano, Texas in May 1972. His wife, Lora Beach was born 24
July 1906 and also died in Llano in June 1977. Alton's brother,
Alvin, apparently did not come to Texas, but lived in Union City,
Pennsylvania, dying there in 1957. He married Thelma Skeel in
1931.)

By 1948, the dwelling at 104 West Walnut Street had been removed,
and an addition to the service station located at 416
- 420 South Commercial Avenue, and later as 100
West Walnut Street, was added to the west side of the property, thus
eliminating the 104 West Walnut Street address.
