1208 South Commercial Avenue
Coleman, Texas

Legal Description:  part of Block 18 of Clow's Second Addition to the town of Coleman

Will and Thursa Belle (Brown) Broad Home

south side - 1923 map
The Will Broad home was built at 1208 South Commercial Avenue about 1910 or before.  Between 1923 and 1930, the house was moved from this location to 1201 South Concho Street, because, according to the family, this part of South Concho Street was paved and Commercial Avenue was not, and the water line had been extended on South Concho Street.

When the house was moved, it was rotated 90 degrees, so the side (shown above) that faced east when it was on South Commercial Avenue, faced north after it was moved to South Concho Street.  These address are both in Block 18 of Clow's Second Addition, with 1208 South Commercial Avenue being on the northeast corner of the block, and 1201 South Concho Street being on the northwest corner.

In 1930, a vacant lot is shown at 1208 South Commercial Avenue, on the entire northeast corner.

south side - 1948 map
Between 1930 and 1948, a small dwelling was built just south of where the Will Broad home had stood, before being moved.  This house was on the same lot on which the earlier home had stood, and was also addressed as 1208 South Commercial Avenue, even though it was more south than the previous home.

This dwelling was moved north of Cross Plains on the Sabanno Creek about in the 1990's.

A vacant lot was located here in 2005.
