In 1909, this small one story building, possibly a dwelling, with a porch on the east side, was located at what became 412 South Commercial Avenue, at the rear or west side of the lot, with an alley on the west side.  The big "6" indicates the lot number.

south side - 1916 map
In 1916, the same one story building, was at this location, but part of the porch on the east side had been closed in to make a larger room on the north side.

south side - 1923 map
In 1923, the same one story building was at this location.  By 1929, this building had been removed and a 50 x 100 foot brick building with a partition wall down the center had been built on lot 6.

"In 1929, the Hicks Rubber Company was located at 412 South Commercial Avenue.  J. S. Rogers was the manager.  Their telephone number was 750.  They dealt in Dayton and Star Tires and Tubes."  (Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)

Sometime between 1930 and 1948, the partition wall was removed between 412 South Commercial Avenue and 414 South Commercial Avenue, and the two buildings were referred to as 412 - 414 South Commercial Avenue and later as 414 South Commercial Avenue.

This is a photograph of the 412 side of 414 South Commercial Avenue in 2003, but probably much the way it looked in the 1940's.
