3, 9 feet of Lot 5, all of Lots 6, 7, and 8 After the fire
in 1990 at 119-121 South Commercial Avenue,
the building at 117 was badly damaged and
removed. |
In September 1941, Robert Horne, Sr.
purchased the Horne Hardware store at
113 South Commercial and 115 South Commercial Avenue
from his father's estate. He had worked in the
store for over nine years. From that time until
1941, it had been operated by the Horne estate, which
included the ranch and store properties had been
operated by Mrs. J. A. Horne and sons, Robert and
Jack. Jack devoted his time to the ranching
business after Robert purchased the store. The
hardware store closed a few years later.
After Robert Horne had purchased the buildings and business a new brick front was added to the store front at 113-115 South Commercial Avenue, as noted by the "H's" in the brickwork at the top of the building. However, separate businesses operated in the two buildings for many years. By 1971, ownership of the 113 South Commercial Avenue and115 South Commercial Avenue property as acquired by Robert A. Horne, Jr. through inheritance.
In February 1991, Robert A. Horne,
Jr. sold the buildings known as 113-115 South
Commercial Avenue to John Walthall. John and
Nell Walthall moved their business known as The
Carousel, into the building.
In 1991 Jerry and Denise (Walthall) McDonald were planning to open a western wear store in the two Horne Buildings at 113 and 115 South Commercial Avenue. These buildings had been vacant for many years, and would require major renovations. The Walthalls and McDonalds decided to trade buildings, since the Horne buildings would be large enough for The Carousel and Nell’s to be combined, and JM Western Wear’s building at 108 S. Commercial was ready to move into. The Mayer’s building was rented to a medical supply company and later sold, as was the building at 108 S. Commercial Avenue. In 1999 the business known as Nell’s Carousel was sold to Amy Hinds, after 31 years in the business. About 1991, the buildings located at 113 South Commercial Avenue and 115 South Commercial Avenue were combined and became known as 113-115 South Commercial Avenue.
June 2003
In April 2002, John Walthall sold the buildings to Bobby A. Altman. In December 2004, Bobby A. Altman sold the buildings to Rob and Kari Schuppenhauer. They relocated their pet to this location, which remained there until about 2007. In March 2008, Rob and
Kari Schuppenhauer sold the buildings to Donnie Wade and
Tracy Allen. They opened Tracy's
Place, a gift shop, at this location soon after
the purchase. Several vendors operated sales areas
in the building at this time. Tracy's
Place appears to have closed in late 2009.
