As early as 1888, what appears to be a barn (shown as 2 story in 1888
and 1 1/2 story in 1893) was located on the northeast corner of what was
to become 403 West College Avenue. It appears that the barn was enlarged
or replaced with the one shown in the 1893 map. This barn probably
belonged to the dwelling located at what would become 403 West College
Avenue.

On November 4, 1901, Louis Litt, a dry goods merchant, and his
wife, Mayme Virginia Litt, purchased the East 1/2 of Block 10 of
the R. J. Clow Addition No. 1, from Mary E. Powell, guardian of Wilma and
Clayton Powell, for $287.50. These lots fronted north on College
Avenue, east of Frio Street and south on Elm Street (Coleman County
Deed Book 44, pages 462 and 463). In 1902 and 1903 Louis Litt
had a one story dwelling built at what was to become 403 West College Avenue.
On February 10, 1910, L. and Mayme V. Litt sold the house and lots to A.
L. Dickinson for $5225.00 (Coleman County Deed Book 72, page 223).
Louis Litt owned the L. Litt Dry Goods Store at 108
- 114 East Pecan Street. See 108
- 114 East Pecan Street for more information about Louis Litt.

This postcard was mailed from Mayne Litt to her brother, Albert Mayes in Ballard, West Virginia.
It read, "Dear Albert and Father - Here is my home. We will see you in July. Yours Mayne"
It was postmarked Coleman, Texas in 1907.

In 1923 the dwelling was located in
the center of this quarter of this block. Sometime between 1923
and 1930, it appears that the porches of the dwelling at 403 West
College Avenue were
removed, and the house moved to the west side of the lot.
Additions were made to the east and south sides of the dwelling
and a small porch added to the north side.
After the dwelling was moved, a two story tile
(or brick) auto garage was located at the rear of 403 West College Avenue.
Note the 308 South Frio Street at the rear of
this lot. I have not yet found this to be an actual address, just an
additional house located at the rear of 403 West College Avenue, but have included 308 South Frio Street as a physical address.

According to old maps, the original house was located in the center
of this lot, but there was never a dwelling located on the east side of
403 West College Avenue. |
