306 West College Avenue
Coleman, Texas

Legal Description:

A single story house was built on the west side of the 302 West College Avenue property before March 1923, and is shown on this March 1923 map.

An alternate address at this time was 214 West College Avenue.

(Note from Ralph Terry:  I have been told this house was built by Alice Roquemore for her daughter.)

(South Side - from 1923 map)

"On January 23, 1926, Alice L. Roquemore sold to C. R. Jeanes, 50 feet (east and west) by 125 feet (north and south) from the west side of the Southeast corner of Block No. 2 of Clow's Addirtion No. 1, thus created the address of 306 West College Avenue.  This reduced the property at 302 West College Avenue to 75 feet (east and west) by 125 feet (north and south)."  (Coleman County, Texas Warranty Deed, Volume 142, page 376.)

"In 1929, Carl R. Jeanes and his wife, Faye, were residing at and owned the home at 306 West College Avenue.  C. R. was a grocer and had his grocery store at 108 East Pecan Street."   (Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)

Sometime after 1923, the dwelling at 306 West College Avenue was enlarged or added to, and the older outbuilding to the northwest of the house was removed and a new building, probably a garage for an automobile was added to the northeast of the house.
