We came to Texas January 20, 1908 from Alabama ... Charlie and Sina Bush and children.  We started school at Independence School about 1½ miles south of Goldsboro.  It was a one room building about 20 feet x 24 feet; there were about 30 to 40 kids in school.  Our teacher was Miss Mattie Horne, who married Dr. Jennings at Coleman.  Our next teacher was Miss Lela Leslie from Glen Cove; then Mr. Grover Cleveland of Wingate.  He would go home on weekends on his bicycle.  When the railroad was built and the townsite of Goldsboro was established, we went to school there.  It is supposed that Independence was then closed.
