Thomas
Copeland, 67, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009, at his
residence. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Abilene
Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street. Burial will
follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.
Thomas was born on September 30, 1941, In Coleman, Texas. Mr. Copeland was well loved in the community as owner and operator of Copeland Hearing Aid Center. Thomas truly loved providing service to his customers and the feeling was mutual by all. His avid attention to detail and personality with his clientele made for many special relationships. Thomas loved many hobbies such as collectables, cars, raising dogs and billiards. Nearly everyone in and around Abilene knows someone who received a miniature dachshund from Tom or who played a game of billiards with him. Thomas also served a president of the Abilene Coin Association. He was a very skilled man in carpentry and auto mechanics which he specialized in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Thomas was devoted father, brother and husband. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Copeland and Leonard T. Bradshaw, both of Abilene; two daughters, Janiece Conley of Utica, Ohio and Jeannie Sweezer of Fort Lewis, Washington; a sister, Connie Wood of Livingston, Texas; and 12 grandchildren. Mr.
Ernest E. “Buck” McGonagill, 80 years young of Coleman, passed from
this life at Abilene Regional Hospital on Monday May 25, 2009.
Services will be Friday May 29, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral
Home, with interment to follow in the Gouldbusk Cemetery under the
direction of Walker funeral Home. Memorial Dinner will be at the
Coleman Masonic Lodge on Friday at 12:00 Noon.
Buck was born November 9, 1928 in Lakewood, New Mexico to the late Ernest C. McGonagill and Leta Brown. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on September 21, 1950 and served until September 23, 1952, obtaining the rank of Corporal. He married Margaret Ann Evans on May 25, 1955; she preceded him on May 16, 2009. Buck was a member of the Lakewood Baptist Church of Lakewood, New Mexico, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Past Master, District Governor, and recipient of the Golden Trowel Award. Buck graduated from Sul Ross State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Teaching Certificate; he taught at several districts, before retiring from the Panther Creek ISD. He was a member of the following; Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, International Association of Turtles, American Quarter Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, and Texas State Teachers Association, the ANRS and Rodeo Exes Association from Sul Ross State University. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Clay and Crissy McGonagill of Coleman, sister, Zippy Helbert of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and grandson Coby McGonagill of Coleman, numerous friends and acquaintances.
