Tragedy Strikes Valera 4th of July Celebration
By LaRae Cunningham

The T-Bone Ranch holds an annual July 4th celebration with food, friends, and fireworks.  This year's event was cancelled at the last minute.  An hour or so before the fireworks were to begin a stunt flier, B. J. Carnes, of the Lake Brownwood area, crashed during a maneuver while the Star Spangled Banner played and the audience, which included Carnes' family, watched.  The plane crashed into a parking lot striking two vehicles.  Emergency crews from the Coleman Fire Department and Santa Anna Fire Department assisted at the scene.  Carnes was pronounced dead at the scene.  No other injuries were reported.

Minnie Lois "Sadie" Bryan, 88

Mrs. Minnie Lois "Sadie" Bryan passed away July 26, 2008 in Richardson, Texas.  Services were held Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Rockwood Baptist Church with Reverend John Stanislaw officiating.  Internment followed in the Rockwood Cemetery.  Walker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sadie was the daughter of Lewis Gordon Tucker and Carrie Arrena Hall Tucker, born January 18, 1920 in Florence Texas.  Sadie spent her early years on the farm in Florence, graduating from Matsler Heights school in 1937.  Sadie had 7 brothers and 5 sisters, all of whom preceded her in death.  Sadie was married to the late Billie Bee Bryan June 17, 1939 in Bertham, Texas and moved to Rockwood.  There, she and Bill shared 58 years together on the farm, until his passing in 1997.  Sadie was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church, where she served as President, Secretary and pianist of the church for many years.  She was a Thursday regular at the Rockwood Quilting club.  She enjoyed the outdoors immensely - hunting, fishing and gardening.  She lived in the Rockwood area most of her life and was a housewife and a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church.  Exhibiting those unique traits of determination and devotion, tenacity and tenderness, our beloved Sadie gave up only once in life, and only then in her passing. Sadie was a special woman who will be remembered fondly and missed greatly.

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia and husband Charlie Greener of Richardson, Judi and husband Frosty Robison of Rockwood, Serena and husband William Hendryx of Dallas; one granddaughter, Dee Dee and husband Justin Falls of McKinney, and one great grandson, Tristan Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Rockwood Cemetery, Alzheimer's Association or charity of your choice.
