Charles Wesley Pitts, Jr., 90

Charles Wesley Pitts, Jr. passed away on October 2, 2007, at his home in Bishop, Texas with his beloved wife, Lida, at his side.  Family visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, at the First United Methodist Church in Bishop.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion in Coleman, Texas.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wesley and Clement Pitts, his first wife, Georgia Sparkman Pitts, and his sisters, Elizabeth Wagner and Jane Atchley.

He is survived by his wife, Lida Oliver Pitts; step-children, Ann Kaiser, Lane Garrett, Edwin Garrett and Celeste Garrett; sister, Kate Phillips of Coleman; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cynthia Pearl Blanton, 102

Cynthia Blanton, of Coleman, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 12:45 p.m. at the Coleman County Medical Center.  Services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Interment will follow with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Cynthia was born November 13, 1904 in Bell County, Texas to the late John Larken and Dora Hamilton Cheshire.  She was a lifetime resident of Coleman County and a member of the First Baptist Church of Coleman where she served 31 years in the Beginner Sunday School Department as a teacher and superintendent.  On October 25, 1924 Cynthia married Harmon Blanton and they celebrated fifty one years of marriage.  Harmon preceded her in death in 1975.  Cynthia was a nurse’s aide and homemaker.

Survivors include a sister, Tincy Blanton, age 100 of Hamlin, Texas; 2 daughters, Willene Davis of Coleman, Texas, Juanita and husband Bob Driskill of Dallas, Texas; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 1 nieces and 3 nephews.

Myrta Leaette Newman, 26

Myrta Leaette Newman, of Goldsboro in Coleman County, passed away at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene on October 4, 2007.  Family visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 7.  Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, October 8, at Walker Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery.

Leaette was born April 24, 1981 in Brownwood.  She was the daughter of the late Opal Paulette Chitwood Newman and Mr. August E. Newman of Goldsboro.  She had lived in the Goldsboro area all her life and was a M.H.M.R. Technician and a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include her father, August Newsman of Goldsboro; grandmother, Opal Archer of Novice; two brothers, Sam Newman of Edgar Springs, Missouri and John Newman; aunt, Ozaine Coffman of Silver Valley; several nieces and nephews.

John Wayne Isaacs, 61

Funeral service for John Wayne Isaacs, 61, of Coleman will be Saturday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m. at True Vine Baptist Church in Coleman with the Rev. James Anderson officiating.  He died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at a local nursing center after a lengthy illness.  His body will lie in repose at Baker-Kirk Mortuary from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.

He was born February 28, 1946, in Coleman to William Mae Isaacs.  She preceded him in death.  He attended school in Coleman and graduated from Humphrey High School.  He served in the U.S. Army and received a National Defense Service Medal and Honorable Discharge.

Survivors include three sisters, Betty (James) Alexander of Princeton, Texas; Mary (Roy) Holloway of Dallas and Annie Hearns of Vallejo, California; one brother, Wallace Isaacs of Midland; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Billye D. McDonald, 72

Mrs. Billye D. McDonald, formerly of the Burkett area, passed away October 11, 2007, in Arlington Memorial Hospital.  The family will receive friends from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, October 15, at Walker Funeral Home.  Services will be held Monday at 12:00 noon in Walker Chapel with burial to follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

Billye was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Maydelle Godwin.  She married the late Tommy Gene McDonald who preceded her in death in 1959.

Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Donnie Shed; grandsons, Chad and Jeremy McDonald.

A son, Ronnie Wayne McDonald, preceded her in death; one sister and brother-in-law Jane and Phil Wadell; one brother and sister-in-law, Al and Jackie Godwin; several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth "Mickey" Smith, 73

Kenneth "Mickey" Smith, of Coleman, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at his residence.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 15 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Kenneth was born October 19, 1934 in Coleman County, Texas, a son of the late Arthur Lee Smith and Hattie Mae Sorrells Smith.  He grew up in Coleman where he attended school.  On October 13, 1972 he married Gussie Whitaker in Brownwood.  Mickey was a heavy equipment operator and worked in the oil field. He was Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Gussie Smith of Coleman; two sons, Randy Smith of Brownwood and Bryan Raney of Lovington, New Mexico; one step-son, Ronnie Aycox of Brownwood; five grandsons, four granddaughters, one great-grandson, one great-granddaughter; one sister, Nina Aydelotte of Coleman; one aunt, Ila Todd of Coleman; a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death a son, Marty James Smith; a daughter, Ramona Marcee; four brothers, Avalee Smith, J. C. Smith, Marlin Smith, Alvin Smith; a sister, Eva Farmer.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Virgil H. Adams, 80

Virgil Harold Adams completed his walk on this earth on October 13, 2007 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Virgil went home to live an eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and with his Heavenly Father from whom all blessings flow.  He happily rejoined his parents, Walter Virgil Adams and Virgie Lena (Harris) Adams, and his son, Timothy Virgil Adams, his grandparents, niece and nephew.  In heavenly bliss they celebrate life and the Father who gave it freely to them while awaiting the rest of the family still bound to this world.  Services for Virgil Adams will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.  Graveside services will follow at the Adams Cemetery near Burkett.  The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 16 between 6 and 8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home.

Virgil Adams was born on October 18, 1926 near Independence, just south of Burkett in Coleman County.  He attended the Liveoak and Burkett schools, graduating from Burkett High School in 1943.  He attended Tarleton State University for a few weeks before being drafted into the Army.  He proudly served as a B.A.R. gunner in the 113th Regimental Combat Team, AFWESPAC, and took part in the liberation of Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines.  He returned to McCamey, Texas in 1947 and worked in the oil fields.  While there, he met the love of his life, Miss Evelyn Thomas.  They were married on July 7, 1948 in Elko, Nevada and remained faithful, loving friends and soul mates for 59 years, 3 months.  Virgil then attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College in Huntsville, Texas and graduated with a B.S. in Drafting/Engineering.

He was later a resident of Fort Worth where he worked for General Dynamics.  Virgil and Evelyn adopted a son, Tim, on September 9, 1957 and moved to Houston in 1960 where he was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of South Houston.  Mr. Adams worked as a designer in the nuclear engineering department for Schlumberger Limited for over 30 years and had two more sons, Robert and Patrick, both currently living and working as teachers in Coleman County.  He retired to Coleman in 1991, purchased a family ranch south of Burkett, and has been a faithful member of the Fellowship Baptist Church since its inception.  He was especially fond of the younger members of the church and always took the time to let them know he cared.

He is anxiously waiting to be reunited with his adoring wife, Evelyn and two admiring sons, Robert and Patrick, all of Coleman, his sister and brother-in law Mattie and M. L. Bradford of Hasse, his sister and brother-in-law Peggy and J. O. Bradford of Proctor, brother-in-law Kenneth Thomas and wife Diana of Oklahoma, brother-in-law Emmett Thomas of Baytown, Texas, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, church members and friends are encouraged to make an offering to the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Willie LaNell Merryman Wardlow McClure

Funeral services for Willie LaNell McClure will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2007 in the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Mr. David Wallis officiating.  Burial will follow under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

LaNell was born on August 12, 1922 to Drew and Ivy Sanders Merryman in Burnt Branch, near Cross Plains, in Callahan County.  She lived in Cross Plains, Echo and Coleman.  She attended school in Echo. 
LaNell married Raymond Kelly Wardlow on September 14, 1939.  Raymond and LaNell worked at Consolidated Aircraft in Fort Worth during the war and later moved back to Coleman to make their home.  Raymond was a mechanic and LaNell was a beautician and housewife.  Raymond passed away on January 3, 1966.  LaNell married James McClure in January 1976.  They lived in Robert Lee and Coleman before his death in July 2000.

LaNell is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Kelly, Jr. and Billie Wardlow; one brother, Billy James Merryman; one grandson, Mark Wardlow; two great-grandchildren, William and Keeli Wardlow; several nieces and nephews.

LaNell was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John D. Merryman; and seven sisters, Lois, Drucilla, Oleta Sanders, Cleo Jeffcoates, Louise McClure and Benny Jo Bodine Milligan; one grandson, Raymond Kelly Wardlow III.

Harry Crews, 98

Harry Crews of Santa Anna passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 9:25 a.m. at his residence in Santa Anna.  Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Stephens officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  The family will receive friends Friday 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Harry was born June 13, 1909 in Coleman County, Texas to the late James Henry and Tula Amanda Pitts Crews.  He attended Bowen Schools and graduated in 1927 from Coleman High School.  On June 10, 1934 Harry married Margaret Roberts in Coleman and they have celebrated seventy three years of marriage.  He was a lifetime resident of Coleman County and has resided in Santa Anna since 1945.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, Santa Anna Lions Club and Boy Scout leader for many years.  Harry was a carpenter and owned and operated Santa Anna Lumber for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Crews of Santa Anna, Texas; daughter, Dixie and husband Gerry Dyer of San Angelo, Texas; 3 granddaughters, Pam Blacklock of Houston, Texas; Chisty Gibbs of Ballinger, Texas; Susan White of Lovelady, Texas; 1 step grandson; 10 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Crews in 1995, and by one sister and one brother.

Alfred "Sonny" Eugene Norris, 80

Alfred "Sonny" Eugene Norris of Talpa passed away at his ranch near Talpa Wednesday, October 17, 2007.

He was born November 30, 1926 in Talpa and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray and Ima Rae Beaver Norris.

He was a graduate of the Talpa High School. Born and reared in Talpa, he lived in Abilene for 30 years and worked in the oilfield and trucking business and returned to ranching in 1980 at Talpa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma.

He married Sybil Johnson in Oplin August 30, 1994, was a member of the Baptist church and veteran of WW II serving in the Navy.

Survivors include: his wife - Sybil Norris of Talpa; two daughters - Deneice Carpenter and Martha English; step-daughter - Cindy Harper; step-son - Eddie Johnson; two sisters - Lajuan Joyce and Christine Martin; three grandchildren - Tiffany Elkin, Eric Elkin, Stacy English; step-grandchildren - BeeDee Holman, Cynthia Rutherford, Cory Carpenter, Tom Ed Johnson, Fawn Gother, Misty Cozart, Lisa Harper, Cristie Harper; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Norris, and sister, Barbara Gay Martin.

Family visitation will be Friday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Walker Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, October 20, in the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Lloyd Hopper and Carroll Hinds officiating, burial to follow in the Talpa Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to the Talpa Cemetery Association.

C. M. "Huck" Huckabee, 86

C. M. 'Huck" Huckabee, of Coleman, Texas passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 at 12:45 a.m. at the AlzCare in New Braunfels, Texas.  Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Rev. Russell Fisher officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Huck was born August 2, 1921 in Ireland, Texas to the late Ernest Briscoe and Fannie Wilmoth Myers Huckabee.  He graduated from Ireland School in 1938 and attended John Tarleton College.  Before graduating he traveled to California and worked there until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on the USS Aaron Ward during World War II being discharged in 1945.  He then returned to college graduating from Texas A & M in 1948.  After graduating he worked as Taylor County Assistant County Agent.  He married Mary Conley in 1948 and she preceded him in death in 1956.  In 1950 he moved to Coleman as County Agent.  On September 24, 1958 Huck married Rebecca Baird Horne in Abilene, Texas and they celebrated forty five years of marriage.  Becky preceded him in death in 2004.  Huck has been a resident of Coleman since 1950 where he was an active member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church serving on the Bishop’s Committee and as Senior Warden.  He worked for the Farm Bureau and then had his own insurance and real estate company.  He owned and operated K & H Real Estate with his partner Maurice Kingsbery until retirement.  Huck was actively involved in the farming and ranching business with his stepson, Jack Horne, and was an active member in the agriculture community for many years.  He served as president of the Coleman County Breeder-Feeder Association and worked on the county livestock show committee.  He was a charter member of the VFW post and a long time member of the Coleman Rodeo Association, Concho Hereford Association and West Texas Hereford Association and Kiwanis Club.  He served several years on the Central Colorado River Authority.  Huck was a recipient of the Rural Citizen of the Year Award.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Jare and husband Jim Smith of San Marcos, Texas; 2 step-sons, James and wife Imelda Horne of Alto, New Mexico; and Jack and wife Carole Horne of Coleman, Texas; a sister, Peggy Ashby Creek of Gatesville, Texas; 5 step grandchildren, Stephen Boyd-Smith of St. Paul, Minnesota; Amanda Holmes of LaGrange, Texas; Jason Horne of Grand Prairie, Texas; Alissa Hohmann; and Lanham Horne of Coleman, Texas; 9 step great grandchildren; 2 nieces, Jan Haynie of Euless, Texas and Cathy Beil of Gatesville, Texas; 2 nephews, Robert McKithan and Steve Ashby of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Etoyle McKithan, step-grandson, Christopher Horne, step-great grandson, Christopher Allison Holmes.

Rev. Frank Taylor, 89

Reverend Frank Taylor passed away Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Songbird Nursing Home in Brownwood.  Family visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, at Walker Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Crenshaw, Rev. Lyn Rice and Rev. J. D. Fry officiating.  Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery.  The family asks that instead of flowers, make memorials to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund in Brownwood or the Assembly of God Church of Santa Anna.

Rev. Taylor was born June 21, 1918 in Gouldbusk to the late Mr. and Mrs. William and Mary Junetta Taylor.  He married Maymie Cummings in Lamesa on August 11, 1938.  He had served many churches in Texas for 40 years, his last church being the Trull Gospel Fellowship in Santa Anna which he started.  At the churches he served, he was always working to make improvements to roofs or adding on to the building.  He was currently a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Survivors include his wife, Maymie Taylor of Brownwood; two daughters and son-in-laws, Etta and Joel Hamlin and Jean and John Ambrosek of Brownwood and Bangs; two grandsons, Terry Hamlin and Breth Hamlin; three granddaughters, Rhonda Rhoads, Beth Cindy Rhoads Caine, Johnna Ambrosek Lawden; 10 grandchildren, Rhianna, Steven, Derek and Bryce Hamlin, Anna and Adam Foster, Sierra and K. J. Lawden and Michael and Christopher Hamlin.  He had four great-great grandchildren, Mia, Keomi and Stone Hamlin and Brendon Craig; a brother, Wilburn Taylor of Santa Anna; a sister, Avadale Kilgore of Midland; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Billy Frank Taylor, and grandson Frankie James Hamlin, plus three sisters and three brothers.

Willie Seals Williams, 105

Willie Seals Williams of Coleman, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 6:31 p.m. at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.  Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rick Marshall officiating, interment will follow with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

She was born Willie Pearl Glasson on January 21, 1902 in Bell County, Texas to the late Gene and Ella Lewis Glasson.  She was a lifetime resident of Coleman County where she attended the Coleman Schools.  In 1920 she married her childhood sweetheart Charles A. Seals in Coleman and he preceded her in death in 1951.  In 1964 Willie married Dee Williams who preceded her in death in 1972.  In March of 1979 with 14 other women she was honored for 750 combined years membership to Extension Homemakers Club work.  She has outlived all the others so honored.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served in all offices of her Sunday school class.  Willie was a homemaker talented with handwork and sewing.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Sneed of Bryan, Texas; a step-son, Leroy and wife Billie Williams of Coleman, Texas; 2 grandsons, Mike Sneed of Bryan, Texas; David and wife Melissa Sneed of Grapevine, Texas; 2 step grandchildren, Mark Williams of Burkett and Gail Williams Brown of Troy, Texas; 7 great grandchildren.

Willie was preceded in death by sister Winnie Brehmn and 5 brothers, Hugh, Kay, Johnny, George and Lewis Glasson and son-in-law, Jack Sneed.

Mary Williams, 71

Mary Williams, 71, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital.  Funeral services were Friday, October 26, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the West Odessa First Baptist Church with Glenn Clark officiating.  Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Services were entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

She was born December 29, 1935 to L. T. and Etta Smith in Fort Stockton.  She married Henry Williams on August 20, 1954 in Eunice, New Mexico.  Mary was well known for her caring and big heart.  She had a great love for her Church and her God.  Mary loved Willie Nelson and the Chicago Cubs baseball team.  She took great care of her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Williams of Odessa, two sons, Freddie Williams of Odessa, Greg and wife Annie Williams  of Rockwood.  She had three sisters, Betsy Jern and husband Frank Beck of Abilene, Oleta and husband Ellis Verdin of Luling, Louisana, Etta Long of Coleman, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dalton Davis, 68

Dalton Davis, of Coleman, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Graveside funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 28 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Joe Hailey officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation was held on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Dalton Davis was born October 14, 1939 in Coleman, Texas, a son of the late Walter Davis and Nettie Wesson Davis.  He grew up in Coleman where he attended school.  In 1959 he married LaNelle Davenport in San Angelo and she preceded him in death on May 16, 1999.  Dalton was an antique dealer and was Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Steve Davis and wife Elena of Coleman; one grandson, Cody Davis of Alaska; one sister, Betty Hunter and husband Kenneth of Jal, New Mexico; one brother, Robert Knowles of Dallas.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charlie Howard Edington, 88

Charlie Howard Edington, of Burkett, died Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 29 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating, assisted by Rev. Dianne Cree.  Burial will follow in the Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation was held Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Charlie Howard Edington was born July 27, 1919, in Brown County, Texas, a son of the late Luke Vaughn Edington and Rosie Lee Slate Edington.  He grew up in Brown County, attended school at Kidd Peak and graduated from Cross Cut.  On July 16, 1938 he married Juanita Gail Chambers in Brownwood.  Mr. Edington ranched for 60 years in Coleman and Brown Counties.  For many years he was a member of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Coleman.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Edington of Burkett; one daughter and son-in-law, Valeta and Jimmy Brown of Cross Plains; four grandchildren, Chris Brown and wife Tiffany of Denton, Jody Brown of Cleburne, Howard Edington and wife Debbie of Burkett, Toni Hart and husband Truet of Eastland; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lela Murriel Lawlis of Coleman.

He was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters; his son, Scott Howard Edington in 2005.

Memorials may be made to any local volunteer fire department.

Robert Ray Smedley,  82

Robert Smedley, of Breckenridge, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be at 10:00am Tuesday, October 30th, at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Don Bearden officiating.  Graveside services and burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman.   Mr. Smedley will lie in state from 2 to 3 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.  Visitation was Monday evening, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Morehart Mortuary.  Services were entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.

Robert Ray Smedley was born in Santa Anna, Texas on October 7, 1925 to parents, Alfred Middleton Smedley and Lorena Belle Connor Smedley.  He attended school in Gouldbusk and Valera, as well as, Mozelle High School in Coleman County.  Robert served in the United States Army in the Armored Light Tank Company from December 23, 1943 to May 13, 1946.  Two of those years were spent in Europe.  Robert married Ivy Elizabeth (Beth) Mulkey on November 4, 1947 in Coleman.  He went to work in the oil fields and later worked for Cal Texas in Indonesia for eleven years.  He also worked in Libya, Nigeria, Angola, Saudi Arabia and various other countries.  After twenty years of service with the Texaco Corporation, Robert retired in 1984 and moved to Columbus, Texas.  He also worked on drilling rigs for forty years in all.  After the death of his first wife, Robert married Della (Dale) Fechner Walker of Breckenridge, Texas on August 11, 1997, and moved to Breckenridge.  He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and the Triple LLL of First Baptist Church.  He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Robert is survived by his wife, Della (Dale) Smedley of Breckenridge; one daughter, Cynthia Ann Preas and husband, Cecil of Midland; one sister, Sue Smedley Evans of Columbus; one step-daughter, Vicki White and husband, Tommy of Luling; one granddaughter, Holly Beal and husband, Jeff Beal of Midland; four step grandchildren, Shawn Duncan and wife, Bonnie of Pflugerville, Angela Fiore and husband, Angelo, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Christina Sanders and husband, Jason, of La Porte, and Wesley Duncan and wife, Misty of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and fifteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Beth Smedley, one son, Robert Ray Smedley Jr., one brother, Billy C. Smedley and one granddaughter, Heather Preas Rogers.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Bethany Baptist Church or Meals On Wheels and may be left at Morehart Mortuary.  Condolences may be sent online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
