Aleene Hamilton Jones, 91

Aleene Hamilton Jones passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Coleman Healthcare Center in Coleman, Texas.  Graveside funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6 at White Chapel Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born August 25, 1916 to Arch Hamilton and Maggie Netherton Hamilton at White Chapel community of Coleman County.  She was married to Thomas Weaver Jones in White Chapel on August 22, 1934.  The couple worked and lived in several states during the time Mr. Jones was employed as a construction worker. Mrs. Jones and her husband owned and operated a motel in Moab, Utah before moving to Coleman in 1992.  He preceded her in death in December of 1998.

She was predeceased by one sister, Agatha Cash, and six brothers, Johnny Hamilton, Durwood Hamilton, Harold Hamilton, Randall Hamilton, Weldon Hamilton and Dudley Hamilton.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Patricia Campbell and husband Nance of Coleman, Sandra Lester and husband Les of Belton, Mike Hamilton and wife Kim of Huntsville, Jim Hamilton and wife Maxine of San Angelo, Elaine Dixon, Gary Cash and wife Glenda of Coleman and Judi Hamilton. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Estelle Hamilton of Brownwood and several other nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Martin G. "Curly" Wright, 82

Martin "Curly" Wright, of Coleman, died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born September 7, 1924 in Dallas County, Texas, a son of Robert Ell Wright and Rosa Pearl Estes Wright.  He moved to Coleman County at the age of one year and lived here since that time.  He attended school at Loss Creek.  Curly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations.  He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, a Purple Heart, Victory Ribbon and Overseas Service Bars.  He was a life-time member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  On June 15, 1979 he married Helen Stiehl Ray at the North Coleman Baptist Church.  Curly retired after 34 years as a mechanic at John Deere in Coleman.  He was a member of Concho Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Wright of Coleman; two daughters, Linda Berry of Fort Worth and Lela Pearl Carter and husband Chuck of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, Judy Parker and husband Ronnie of Abilene; several nieces and nephews and the Jurl Essary Family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Darrell and Paul Wayne Wright, three sisters, Lorine Dodgen, Louise Howell and Merle Greene.

Arnold W. Cullins, 82

Arnold W. Cullins passed away peacefully at his home in Wichita Falls on Friday, September 7, 2007 from complications of gastric cancer.  Pallbearers included Arnold and Bettye’s grandchildren and Arnold’s brothers, Jimmie and Buddy Cullins.  Memorials in honor of Arnold may be made to American Hospice of Wichita Falls, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one’s choice.

Arnold was born near Valera in Coleman County, Texas on July 9, 1925.  He was the first child of Earl T. and Jessie Dobbins Cullins.  He grew up in Coleman County attending the Loss Creek School and graduating from Mozelle High School.  He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served until 1945.  On November 26, 1944 Arnold married the love of his life, Bettye Blanton, in Shields, Texas.  They enjoyed over 62 years together before her passing in May 2007.  Arnold worked for over 50 years in the oil field beginning in and around Coleman as a roustabout working with his father, later for Anzac Oil Company, and finally with his own ECCA Well-Servicing Company.  He moved to Wichita Falls in 1967 as production superintendent for Fultz Oil Company, retiring in 1993.  Arnold was an outdoorsman who enjoyed beautiful scenery, hunting, fishing, and gardening, and was a general "Mr. Fix-it."  Other than the comfort of his own home, his two favorite places were the mountains of Aspen and his cabin at Possum Kingdom Lake.

He leaves behind his three children, Karen Grogan and husband George of Flower Mound, Texas; Pam Osborn and husband Randy of Henrietta, Texas; and Scott Cullins and wife Julie of Woodstock, Georgia.  Also left to remember their "Granddad" are cherished grandchildren Calvin, Dan, Eric, Lauren, and Kirk Grogan, Alisha and Zack Osborn, and Sara Cullins.  Arnold is also survived by his "dear, sweet" mother-in-law, Juanita Scott, of Fort Worth, formerly of Coleman; sisters Earlene Townsley of Boise City, Oklahoma and Lois Pate of Sweetwater; and brothers Buddy Cullins of Coleman and Jimmie Cullins of Marlin.

Allie May Tuckey, 86

Allie may Tuckey, formerly of Merkel, Texas passed away on September 9, 2007 in Columbus, Texas.  Graveside services will be held on September 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas with Rev. Jacky Reynolds officiating.

She graduated from Centennial High in 1939.  Allie May married Caswell Tuckey on March 23, 1943 in Ballinger.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Merkel, Texas.

Allie May is survived by her daughters, Imogene Newsome of Denison, Texas, Liz Bearden of Clear Lake, Texas, Frances Cannon and husband Jackie of Merkel, Texas, Nelda Bardin of Columbus, Texas, and Glenda Knigge and husband Wesley of Columbus, Texas; sons, Dr. Charles Tuckey of Richardson, Texas and Floyd Tuckey and wife Susan of Eastover, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters, Louise Howard of Euless, Texas and Marie Gotcher of Monahan, Texas.

Allie May was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a son, C. W. Tuckey.

Margaret Louise Brookshier, 85

Margaret Louise (Mrs. R. G.) Brookshier of Talpa passed away Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Ballinger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.  She was 85 and had lived in Runnels and Coleman Counties all her life.  Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Lange Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Rouse and Rev. Loyd Hopper officiating.  Burial will follow in the Talpa Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Mike Priddy, Charles Allcorn, Sandy Neal, Steve Evans, Jimmy Smith, and Patrick Brookshier.

Louise was born June 30, 1922 in Blanton Community in Runnels County to James Amos and Arrie (Wood) Foreman.  She married R. G. "Gordon" Brookshier on April 22, 1939 in Paint Rock.  She was a devoted housewife and also proved to be an able assistant to her husband in ranching and farming until he retired fully in 2003.  At that time the operation was turned over to daughter, Carol Brookshier Jones, making four generations of Brookshiers in ranching in Runnels County.  Louise was a former member of First Baptist Church of Ballinger and a current member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Talpa.  She was a member of Women’s Missionary Union at both churches and a member of Runnels County Farm Bureau.  For the last three years she had been a resident of Ballinger Health Care and Rehab Center (formerly Heritage Oaks Nursing Center).

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Gordon, on February 12, 2005.  Her parents, her brothers and sisters, and a daughter, Judy Brookshier, also preceded her.

Mrs. Brookshier is survived by her daughter, Carol Brookshier Jones of Talpa; grandson, Shon Jones and his wife, Melissa, of San Angelo; granddaughter, Brooke Jones of Sonora; great-grandsons, Xavier Nino of Talpa, and Shon V. Jones, Jr. of San Angelo; great-granddaughter, Taryn Jones of San Angelo. A sister-in-law, Margie England Brookshier of El Paso, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Ballinger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Rightmire, and the nurses and staff of VistaCare.  The family suggests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Ballinger Carnegie Library, or West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Johnny Barnett, 58

Johnny Barnett, of Novice, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 in Montgomery, Alabama.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Rough Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at the funeral home.

Johnny Barnett was born February 8, 1949 in Coleman, the son of J. D. Barnett, Jr. and Edna Ruth Gandy Barnett.  His mother died when Johnny was nine and his dad married Letha Beth Freadd.  Johnny graduated from Novice High School and served in the United States Marine Corps.  He married Bonnie Jean Faulkner on July 22, 1972 in Montgomery, Alabama.  He worked for Crown, Cork & Seal in Abilene for 23 years, owned and operated J. B. Enterprises, was a member of the Novice Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and attended Novice Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Barnett of Novice; two daughters, Tammy McClure of Coleman, Shanon Beets and husband, Steven, of Coleman; his mother, Letha Barnett of Coleman; one sister, Jackie Copeland and husband, Gordon, of Palmer, Alaska; two brothers, Dugan Barnett of Brownfield, Milton Barnett and wife, Renie, of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Justin, Monte, Kelsi, Kylee, Cohl and Keaton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. D. and Ruth Barnett, Jr., one brother and one sister.

Geraldine Blakey Cole, 91

RIVER OAKS -- Geraldine Blakey Cole passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007.  Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Garden Chapel.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cole was a member of Westridge Baptist Church.  She was a River Oaks pawnbroker for over 30 years, a life member of VFW Post 708, an auxiliary and M.O.C.A. member, a member of American Legion 626 and Moose Lodge 287.

Survivors include her children, Rodney Cole, Terry C. Wages and wife, Kathy, Clemmie W. Cole, Jr. and wife, Paula and Martha R. King and husband, John; grandchildren, Rodney A. Cole II, Jackie D. Cole, Clemmie Weldon Cole III, Tara Moore, Timothy King, Tracy Jordan, Terry Wages and Meagan Wages; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Bishop, Maurine Williams and Jeannine Dyer; and brothers, Ross Blakey and Kenneth Blakey.

Anita Lorrayne Reed, 85

Graveside services for Anita Lorrayne Reed, age 85, of Fort Worth, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, at Coleman City Cemetery.  Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home.  Anita Lorrayne Reed passed away Sunday morning in Fort Worth.

Anita was born May 3, 1922 in El Paso, Texas, the daughter of the late Charles and Anita (Held) Malsbury.  She had been a resident of Fort Worth since 2003, formerly of Coleman.  She married Albert L. Pete Reed on December 24, 1941 in Vaughn, New Mexico.  He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Wray Reed and wife, Anna, of Fort Worth and daughter, Barbara Jean Burton and husband, Melvin, of Seguin; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Willie Escobar, 71

Willie Escobar, of Coleman, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 17 at Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Willie Escobar was born August 28, 1936 in Jourdanton, Texas, a son of the late Lupe Escobar and Tomasa Lopez Escobar.  He grew up in Christine, Texas and attended school there . In 1959 he moved to Coleman from Christine.  He was a farm laborer and a Baptist.

Survivors include one brother, Gus Escobar of Coleman; three sisters, Mary Castillo and Olivia Mungia both of Coleman and Delfi Blankenship of California; numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Gay Martin, 76

Barbara Gay Martin passed away Sunday, September 16, at Coleman County Medical Center.  Family visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday, September 18, at Walker Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 10:00am Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home with Bro. Cecil Bowery officiating.  Burial will follow in the Talpa Cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ray and Ima Ray Beaver Norris, born December 14, 1930 in Talpa.  She had lived in Coleman County all her life and was married to the late Mr. Henry Irvin Martin in Coleman County January 1, 1949.  He preceded her in death.  She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and was a homemaker and true momma, an avid bird watcher and lover of animals.  She was a church pianist and a volunteer at Holiday Hill and a Red Hatter.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Ann Martin Bowerly and Patricia Lynn Martin Fuller of the Houston area; one son, Irvin Wayne Martin of Hobbs, New Mexico; aunt Ruth Lagow of Lake Coleman; two sisters, Myrtle Christine Martin and La Juan Rose Joyce; one brother, Alfred Eugene Norris of Talpa; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Woodrow Rae, 89

Woodrow Rae died Monday, September 17, 2007 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in San Angelo.  Graveside funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19 at White Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.

Woodrow Wilson Rae was born August 7, 1918 in Talpa, Texas, a son of Robert Ruford Rae and Bettie Elizabeth Minor Rae.  He grew up in Coleman and was a laborer.  He was Baptist.  In 1991 he moved to San Angelo to be with his family.

Survivors include two nieces, Bettie Thate and husband Roy of San Angelo and Thelma Mennidine of Killeen; one nephew, Melvin Rae of Killeen.

Family visitation will be today (Tuesday) at Stevens Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Fred Knowles, Jr., 53

Fred Knowles, Jr., of Coleman, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 21 at Community Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Smith officiating and assisted by Dr. Charles Sheffield.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be held Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Fred Knowles, Jr. was born November 10, 1953 in Coleman, Texas, a son of Fred Knowles, Sr. and the late Ima Hubbard Knowles.  He grew up in Coleman where he attended school, graduating from Coleman High School in 1972.  In 1973 he married Jana Smith in Coleman.  He lived in Jasper, Madisonville and Lampasas, where he was a TV cable manager.  He moved back to Coleman in 1997.  He was a rancher and a farmer and was also employed at Coleman Livestock Auction.  He was a member of Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jana Knowles of Coleman; two sons, Dustin Knowles of San Angelo and Brian Knowles of Coleman; one daughter, Heather Knowles of Midland; his father, Fred Knowles, Sr. of Coleman; three sisters, Gloria Parker of Coleman, Judy Jeffreys of Abilene, Kathy Plummer of Rosenberg; two brothers, Terry Knowles of Abilene and Jerry Knowles of San Angelo; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ima Knowles in 2003.

Jean Day Horne, 95

Jean Day Horne of Coleman, died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Coleman County Medical Center.  A Memorial Service in Celebration of Jean's life will be held 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeff Miller officiating.  There will be a reception at the fellowship hall following the service.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born August 4, 1912 in Plainview, Texas, a daughter of Clifford Hood Day and Ada Lee Wingo Day.  She grew up in the Panhandle of Texas and graduated from West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M).  Jean moved to Coleman in 1939 as the Home Demonstration Agent.  She married Robert A. Horne on July 26, 1942 in Bryan, Texas and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1984.  In the 1960's Jean received her certification as a dietician and served area nursing homes.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was the teacher for the Dunson Sunday School Class for 35 years.  She also sang in the Chancel Choir for many years.  She served as secretary and other offices for the District United Methodist Women.

Survivors include one son, Robert Horne of Coleman; one daughter, Marilyn Angela Lorz; five grandchildren, Joshua M. Lorz of Coos Bay, Washington, Jesse D. Lorz of Santa Rosa, California, Asenath Horne of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Auralee Horne of Alpine and Silas Horne of Coleman; one great-grandchild, Juliana Jean Horne; one brother, Bill Day of Comanche.

Lucille Gould Creek, 86

Lucille Gould Creek, long-time Burkett resident, died Friday, September 21, 2007 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23 at the Burkett Church of Christ with Mike Brady and Russell Gould officiating.  Burial will follow in the Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be held on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Lucille Gould Creek was born May 27, 1921 in Burkett, Texas, a daughter of Dee Burnice Bludworth and Eva Lena Strickland Bludworth.  She grew up in Burkett and attended school there.  In 1940 she married Dalton Gould and he preceded her in death in 1992.  On July 30, 1994 she married Ben Creek and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1998.  She was a homemaker and later was employed at the sewing factory.  She was a member of the Burkett Church of Christ.  She was a volunteer at the Coleman Senior Citizens and enjoyed the activities there.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Brady and husband Mike and Glenda Calloway and husband Marty all of Burkett; one son, Russell Gould and wife Cene' of Abilene; one brother, W. B. Bludworth of Burkett; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Joe Monroe Bunt, 66

Joe Monroe Bunt, 66, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 in Waco.  Graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 in Squaw Creek Cemetery in Glen Rose.  Arrangements were under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home of Glen Rose.

Joe was born January 10, 1941 in Cleburne to Little Joe and Edna Mae Dunnam Bunt.  He married Vicki Moisant on July 10, 1964 in Lovington, New Mexico.  He retired as a captain from the U.S. Air Force having received two commendation medals, one for saving a multi-million dollar airplane and one for work he had done at the avionics lab as an electrical engineer.  Following his retirement from the military, he worked out of his home doing small electronics repair.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Bunt of Waco; son, Joe A. Bunt of Waco; daughters; Vickiann Smith and husband, Shawn of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Elizabeth D. Nordhus of Temple and Christina M. Bunt of Waco; ten grandchildren, Athena Clarisse Dunnam and her fiancé Nick Field of Marsielles, Ohio, Drew Milton Dunnam, Blake Allyn Dunnam, Morgan Serrina Dunnam, Sebastian Anthony Curtis Smith, Victor Alexander Smith and Raven Michelle Smith all of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Karissa Kay Nordhus, Kayln Amber Nordhus and Joe Brian Bunt all of Waco, Texas; his mother, Edna Mae Bunt of Coleman; sisters, Vanita Arrant and husband, Junious of Austin and Susie Bunt and husband, Richard Garai of Lewiston, Idaho.

Bertha McQueen, 90

Services for Bertha McQueen, of Snyder, Texas will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the Brown Ranch Cemetery in Coleman County, with Mr. Wallace Combest officiating.  Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home in Snyder.

Mrs. McQueen died Monday, September 24, 2007 at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder, after a lengthy illness.  She was born September 9, 1917 in Coleman County and married A. G. McQueen on December 13, 1938 in Coleman County.  He preceded her in death on June 3, 1996.  Mrs. McQueen was a graduate of Mozelle High School.  She moved from Coleman County to Kermit in 1950, and then moved to Andrews in 1951, where she worked as a nurse's aide at Permian General Hospital.  She was a member of 37th Street Church of Christ in Snyder.

Mrs. Queen is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Bettie McQueen of Snyder; four grandchildren, Marc McQueen of Midland, Jutuan Farr of The Woodlands, Kendall Schrader of San Antonio, Tina Trope of Dallas and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, M. W. and Tessie Cathey, her husband, A. G. McQueen and a daughter, Bettie Neal.

Fagan "Brooke" Jones, 29, of Talpa and Sonora passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at San Angelo Community Medical Center.  Visitation for family and friends was Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger.  A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Talpa Cemetery in Talpa, Texas with Rev. Don Rouse and Rev. Loyd Hopper officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lange Funeral Home.

Brooke was born July 10, 1978 in Brownwood, Texas to Robert "Robbie" Jones and Carol Brookshier Jones.  She attended high school in Sonora and then at Lakeview in San Angelo.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gordon and Louise Brookshier, Jimmy Jones and Christina Wisener; and by two aunts, Judy Brookshier and Patricia Wisener.

Brooke is survived by her son, Xavier Nino of Talpa; her mother, Carol Brookshier Jones of Talpa; father Robbie Jones and his wife, Lorna, of Sonora; a brother, Shon Jones and his wife, Melissa, of San Angelo.  Also surviving are a niece, Taryn Jones, and a nephew, Shon V. Jones, Jr.; special friend and father of Xavier, Javier Nino of San Angelo; uncle Pete Jones and wife, Janice;  grandfather, Richard Wisener of Coleman; grandmother, Faye Jones of Coleman; and a cousin, Christopher Jones and wife, Nicole.

Earlyne Childers, 96

Earlyne Childers, of Coleman, died on September 26, 2007 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the Elm Street Church of Christ with Floyd Stumbo officiating, assisted by Joe Hailey.  Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2007 at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be grandsons: David Barlcay, Steven Kelley, Scott Stumbo, Randy Stumbo, Jerry Lewis, Danny Stepp and Beau Barclay.

Earlyne Childers was born in Iowa Park, Texas on July 12, 1911, the daughter of Earl Tom and Mary Wilhelmena Block Johnson.  The family moved to Odessa where she attended school for several years.  They later lived on a farm in the White Deer Community, where she finished her schooling.  She married Raymon Childers on June 9, 1929 in the White Deer Community.  During the depression, they had to move around to find work but eventually moved to Hereford, where they farmed and raised their three children, Joyce, Raymon, Jr. and Pat.  Earlyne was a multi-talented woman.  She had to make her first home out of a boxcar and later a tent while the house was being built.  She could always add touches of beauty to make it livable and pretty.  While living in Hereford, she was very active in the Home Demonstration Club.  She always had a big garden and canned vegetables and fruit for the following year.  She loved any kind of art made ceramics, crocheted many a doily and later in life, painted with oils.  She was very active in the Church of Christ wherever she lived.  She taught ladies Bible classes and children’s classes for many years.  She was a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ in Coleman.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Tom Kelley of Brownwood, Pat and Floyd Stumbo of Lubbock; one brother, John L. B. Johnson of Pampa; one sister, Evelyn Inman of Plainview; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymon Childers; one son, Raymon Childers, Jr.; one sister, Wilhelmena Babcock and two brothers, Frankie Johnson and Wayne Johnson.

Michael Salazar, 45

Michael Salazar age 45 of Santa Anna, Texas passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 4:50 a.m. at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.  Services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coleman with Father Santiago Udayar officiating.  Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Rosary will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.  Michael was born December 8, 1961 in Santa Anna, Texas to Manuel and Ruth DelaRosa Salazar.  He was raised in Santa Anna and was a 1981 graduate of Santa Anna High School and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  A lifetime resident of Santa Anna, he was a Garden Center Sales Associate for Walmart in Brownwood.

Survivors include his Father and Mother, Manuel and Ruth Salazar of Santa Anna, Texas; two brothers, Salvador and wife Maria Salazar of Brownwood, Texas; J. R. Salazar of Santa Anna, Texas; seven nieces and nephews, Jason Greenlee, Albert, Matthue, Larisa, Seth, Jaryd and Montana Salazar.

Michael was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Albert "PY" Salazar in 1983.

Pallbearers were Albert Salazar, Matthue Salazar, Seth Salazar, Jaryd Salazar, Steve Cantrell and David Dickey.

Norene Woodin, 80

Mrs. Norene Woodin was born April 22, 1927 in Memphis, Michigan and passed away in California September 27, 2007. 
Memorial services will be held at a later date in the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman.

She was married to the late Joseph Woodin on April 28, 1948.  He preceded her in death in 2002.  She was a resident of Coleman from 1978 until she moved to California this year to be near her daughter.  Norene was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #360 of Coleman, member of the Methodist Church and volunteer for Loaves and Fishes.  She was a very generous person of help for others.

Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Pamela Woodin and husband Arthur Allen of Burney, California and Sandra K. Lacy and grandson Joseph of Coleman; two brothers, Roger Thompson and Robert Thompson, both of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Norene's name to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1609 S. Concho, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Clyde Dixon "Tommy" Allen, 90

Clyde Allen, of Coleman, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at his residence.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Wednesday at the United Christian and Presbyterian Church, 1609 S. Commercial Avenue, Coleman with Dr. George B. Gordon officiating.  Visitation will follow the service at the church. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Clyde Dixon "Tommy" Allen was born April 24, 1917 in Hillsboro, Texas, the third son of Thurman Jackson Allen and Myrtle Olga Tomlinson Allen.  He grew up in Coleman, graduating from Coleman High School in 1933.  After graduating from Texas Christian University in 1937 he returned to Coleman and joined his father in their insurance business, Allen and Allen.  He volunteered for the US Navy in 1942, serving his country in both the European and Pacific theaters, receiving the Bronze Star for valor.  He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Lieutenant.

He returned to Coleman after the war, rejoining the insurance agency and resuming his involvement in community affairs.  He married Doris Adelle McIntosh in Brownwood on April 10, 1955.  Mr. Allen was an active member of First Christian Church (now United Christian and Presbyterian), serving as Chairman of the Church Board on many occasions, and as an Elder, adult Sunday School teacher, and choir member.  Mr. Allen was on the Board of Holiday Hill Nursing Home for 55 years, serving as secretary for most of that time.  He was a founder of the Coleman County Foundation and served on the board of the Abilene Foundation.  He was instrumental in re-organizing the local hospital, and served as the first chairman of the board of Coleman County Medical Center.  He also served on the Coleman County Industrial Board and was a member of the Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Allen of Coleman; son, Jack Allen of McLean, Virginia; daughter, Dorothy Kellogg and son-in-law, James Kellogg of Alexandria, Virginia; grandsons, Allen and Stephen Kellogg of Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Dorothy McIntosh of Brownwood and Doris J. Allen of Houston; two nieces Patricia White of Austin and Suzanne Gordon of Kansas City, Kansas, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Edward Allen and Weldon Jackson Allen.

Ricardo C. Hurtado, 64

Ricardo Hurtado, of Coleman, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Margarito Barbosa officiating.  Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ricardo C. Hurtado was born on July 8, 1943 in Mexico, the son of Manuel and Agapita Contreras Hurtado.  He grew up and attended school in Mexico.  He moved to Coleman in 1970, and later married Mary Vasquez on October 17, 1979 in Coleman.  He worked construction jobs, for Dry Manufacturing and Martin Brick Plant.  He was a member of Cordero Baptist Church in Santa Anna.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hurtado of Coleman; one son, Ricky Hurtado of Coleman; three daughters, Melinda Salas and Becky Sartain, both of Coleman, Amanda Salas of Houston; three brothers, Reyes Hurtado of Coleman, Jose Hurtado and Manuel Hurtado, both of San Antonio; four sisters, Sophia Morales of Coleman, Carmen Cardenas, Paula Medrano, all of San Antonio, Nina Reeves of Cisco; eight grandchildren, Minda Salas of Brownwood, Robert Flores, Zac Polk and Trey Saratin, all of Coleman, Jonathan Carraway and Candace Salas, both of Houston, Christopher Weldon of Tyler and Kasey Weldon of Houston; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Wooten and Kassidy Wooten, both of Brownwood and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Concha Hurtado.

Jack Cosby, 75

Jack Cosby, of Coleman, died Sunday, September 30, 2007 in San Angelo.  Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, at Elm Street Church of Christ.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Jack Cosby was born June 23, 1932 in Hugo, Oklahoma, a son of Jack William Cosby and Edna McDade Cosby Holly.  He grew up in Hugo, Oklahoma and moved to Mineral Wells where he graduated from high school.  Mr. Cosby served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force.  Following his service time, he graduated from Texas Tech University.  On July 19, 1958 he married Sydney Smith in Childress, Texas.  Mr. Cosby taught school at Pyote and was a principal at Sanderson, Talpa-Centennial and Panther Creek.  He also coached girl's basketball and peewee basketball.  Mr. Cosby was a referee for basketball for a number of years.  In his retirement, he was a funeral home assistant at Stevens Funeral Home.  He was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ where he served as a song leader and elder and taught Sunday School.

Survivors include his wife, Syd Cosby of Coleman; three daughters, Kathleen Townzen and husband Shalor of Childress, Carole Cosby of El Paso and Amy Roberts and husband Archie of Graham; eight grandchildren, Dade Cosby, Tyler Mills, Grayson Townzen, Kandys Mills, Travis Townzen, Josh Roberts, Madison and Meghan Roberts; one great-granddaughter, Audrey Townzen; two sisters, Greta Brizendine of Fort Worth and Lameda Batten and husband Al of Ennis; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Coleman County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund.
