Anna Lee Hanna-Thompson of May died Thursday, August 2. 2007.

Anna was born August 25, 1928, in Locker, Texas to parents Melvin and Nel Vest.  Anna married Rev. Hollis Howard Hanna in 1945 and later married Edwin V. Thompson in 1991.  Services were held Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Fortenberry officiating.  Interment to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy Hanna of Canyon Lake, Texas, Ruby Thornburg and husband Hugh of Fairfield, Texas, Lee Nickerson and husband Wayne of May, Texas, grandchildren, Joe Woodcox, Jr., Kesha Brant, Dakota and Aaron Thornburg, Amber Thomas, and Heather Frith, great grandchildren, Anita Marie and Kelly Lynn and Jamie Lee Woodcox, Phoenix Alyssa Brant, Chandler Frith, and Tegan Thomas; a brother, Jack Vest; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husbands Rev. Hollis Hanna and Edwin Thompson, grandchild, Jay Dean Hanna, parents, Melvin and Nel Vest, 5 sisters and 1 brother.

Rogene (Jeanie) Dye Holtz, 65

Jeanie Holtz, 65, died unexpectedly in her sleep Friday, August 3, 2007.   Jeanie will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched, and a celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 11, at Moore’s Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E.  51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145.

She was born April 1, 1942, in Oilton, Oklahoma, to Herbert and Esta Dye.  She graduated from Coleman High School in Texas in 1960, where she was a member of Future Teacher’s of America and the National Honor Society, as well as a cheerleader and beauty pageant queen.  After high school, she was involved in several civic sororities.  She moved to Tulsa in 1965 where she resided for the next 42 years. She worked as a dental assistant and office manager; she participated in tennis leagues, bridge groups, and the Dental Auxiliary; and she was very involved in the school and extra-curricular activities of her children.  In 1989, she married Lloyd K. Holtz, Tulsa attorney, and for the past 18 years, she worked with those whom she considered to be her second family at Dentsply Tulsa Dental.

She is  preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd K. Holtz, both parents, brother Earl, and sister Sharon.

She is survived by two children Dr. Brett Taylor and Christy O’Day, and their spouses Jenny Jin and Dennis O’Day; three grandchildren, Cpl. Joshua O’Day, Patrick O’Day, and Colin O’Day; her sister Charlotte and brothers-in-law Bruce and Jack; four step-children, Scott Holtz, Lisa French, Stephanie Adams, and Glenn Holtz (and their spouses Dalite, Mark, and Tom); as well as nine wonderful step-grandchildren.

Maudine Blount, 85

Maudine Blount of Odessa, Texas, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007, at 11:15 p.m. at the Sherwood Place in Odessa.  Services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Sealy Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Maudine was born June 16, 1922 in Gomez, Texas to the late Elmer Hopkins and Francis Adeline Whitley Green.  She was raised in Terry County where she attended the Gomez Schools.  On December 20, 1940 she married Freddie Blount in Brownfield, Texas and they celebrated sixty six years of marriage.  Freddie preceded her in death on July 20, 2007.  Maudine was a resident of Santa Anna from 1956 until 1975 then moving to Plains and in 1986 she moved to Rising Star.  Freddie and Maudine operated the Freddie and Maudine Blount Acoustical Musical while residing in Rising Star.  In 2004 they moved to Odessa where she has since resided.  Maudine was a member of the Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include 3 daughters: LaFaunda Buford of Odessa, Texas, Anneda Merchant of Arlington, Texas, and Wanelda Morton of Cisco, Texas, a son: Freddie Blount of Bangs, Texas, 4 sisters: Corene Benton of Midland, Texas, Jewell Nessel of Stratford, Oklahoma, Ireta Davis of Frankston, Texas, and Wileta Roberts of Hereford, Texas, 1 daughter-in-law: Debra Blount of Coleman, Texas, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Maudine was preceded in death by two brothers.

Dorothy Geneva Smith Horton, 77

Memorial services for Dorothy Geneva Smith Horton, 77, of De Leon were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bangs Church of Christ with Michael Light officiating.  Burial followed at Clear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home in De Leon.  She died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at her home.

She was born April 15, 1930 in Rockwood, Texas to Dee Severe and Ruby Jane Burson Smith.  On July 1, 1947, she married Terrell Graham Horton in Brown County.  She was a homemaker, and had resided in De Leon since 1987.  She was a member of De Leon Church of Christ.

Survivors include four daughters, Geneva Hall of De Leon, Terry LaFon and husband Tommy of Bluff Dale, Corlis Stewart and her husband  Alvin of De Leon and Janie Pruitt and her husband Wayne of Bluff Dale; two sons, Travis Horton and wife Sharon of Austin and Johnny Horton and wife Mary of Fort Worth; two brothers, Nathan Smith and wife Nelda of Red Oak and Gary Smith and wife Lois of Stephenville; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell Horton; great-grandson Peyton Kern, and sisters Joyce Hance and Pauline Blair.

Cynthia Lynn Philpot, 37

Cynthia Lynn Philpot, age 37, of Santa Anna, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at a Dallas hospital as a result of a short illness with breast cancer.  Funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11 at First Baptist Church in Coleman with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Burial followed in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

She was born Cynthia Lynn Garrett on May 27, 1970 in Port Lavaca, Texas, a daughter of Bill and Geneva McCown Garrett.  She moved with her family to Santa Anna in 1977 where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Santa Anna High School in 1988.  On October 20, 1990 she married Wayne Philpot in Santa Anna.  In 2002 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanized Agriculture from Tarleton State University.  Cynthia was currently employed at Farm Credit Bank (formerly Federal Land Bank) in Coleman as an Office Assistant.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Coleman where she was active in the Children and Youth ministries.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Philpot of Santa Anna; two daughters, Cassie Philpot and Rylie Philpot both of Santa Anna; her parents, Bill and Geneva Garrett of Santa Anna; one sister, Charlotte Tucker and husband Doug of Santa Anna; an uncle, Leonard McCown and wife Marge of Irving; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wallace and Aleen Philpot of Grapevine; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisa and Steve Jones of Haslet; cousin, Kristi Betts of Irving; four  nephews, Dawson Jones, Sawyer Jones, Hayden and Jacob Springer; numerous friends.

Margaret "Margie" Perez, 56

Margaret "Margie" Cardenas Perez, of Brownwood, passed away Wednesday August 8, 2007 at her residence.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Sunday August 12, 2007 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Philip McNamara officiating.  Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

A lifetime resident of Brownwood, she was a 25 plus year employee of Kohler.  She was born July 20, 1951 to Aristeo and Herminia Cardenas.  She married Julio Perez on February 3, 1973.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt, and was known and loved by many and will be missed by all.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Lisa Villarreal of Brownwood, and Lydia Frerichs and her husband Brian of Brownwood; 5 grandchildren, Gabriella, Veronica and Francisco Villarreal, and Bianca and Aiden Frerichs; 3 brothers, Ramon Cardenas and wife Elva of Brownwood, Reyes Cardenas and wife Maria of Arlington, Rudy Cardenas and wife Arcina of Irving; 2 sisters, Yolanda Bernal and husband Jesus of Bangs, Josie Contreras and husband Gilbert of Early, 16 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a niece, Angelica Yasalet Cardenas, great nephew Jesus Andres Bernal, maternal grandparents Cecilio and Josefa DelaRosa of Santa Anna, Texas, paternal grandparents Jose and Elvira Cardenas of Brownwood.

Avis Poldrack, 89

Avis Poldrack, age 89, of Coleman, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 12 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Avis Nadene Poldrack was born July 30, 1918 at Brown Ranch, Coleman County, Texas, to Annie Louise De Armon and William Douglas Thompson.  She lived in Coleman County all of her life.  She married Arthur Poldrack on July 30, 1938.  He preceded her in death on December 13, 1983.  Avis was a Baptist and a homemaker.  She worked for Holiday Hill Nursing Home for 18 years.

Survivors include six daughters and five sons-in-law, Betsy and Bobby Davis of Glen Cove, Bitsy and Jim Felts of Hesperia, California, Fredia and Bobby Hart of Mineral Wells, Jan McElrath of Coleman, Nan and Jay Moses of Coleman and Treva and Alan Watson of Lubbock; three sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Ruth Poldrack of Coleman, Arthur, Jr. and Deedra Poldrack of Midland and Steve and Becky Poldrack of Austin; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

William Roy "Bill" Cole, 81

William Roy "Bill" Cole, age 81, of Gouldbusk, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, August 15 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating.  Burial will follow in the Silver Valley Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Bill Cole was born December 28, 1925 in Bremerton, Washington, a son of Roy Walter Cole and Ruth Madden Cole.  He grew up in Washington and attended school there.  Bill served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper . He retired from Qwest (formerly Pacific Northwest Bell) after working there for many years and living in the Bremerton, Washington area.  In 1980 he married Charlene Bates in Reno, Nevada and they moved to Gouldbusk in 1985.  He was Methodist and a member of the Elks Lodge.  He was a scuba diver.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Cole of Gouldbusk; children, Kathy Ratko and husband Larry of Tacoma, Washington, Bill Cole and wife Debbie of Olalla, Washington, Nancie Hibbs of Moses Lake, Washington; step-children, Darrel Horton of Almira, Idaho and Shirley Cortez of Clovis, New Mexico; grandchildren, Heather Ratko-Cruz and husband Hermilo of Tacoma, Washington, Kyle Ratko and wife Lisa of Puyallup, Washington, Matt Hibbs and wife Angela of North Lake, Texas, Chris Hibbs and Joe Hibbs both of Moses Lake, Washington; great-grandchildren, Brenna Doner and Christian Cruz both of Tacoma, Washington; one brother, Jim Cole and wife Janice of Sunnyvale, California.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Cole.  Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Goodwill.  Family visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00  p.m. Tuesday at Stevens Funeral Home.

G. W. Slayton, 68 years of age, passed away at his residence in Early, Texas on Thursday, August 9, 2007.  Services were held Sunday, August 12, 2007 at 10:00 a. m. at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Strength officiating.  Private interment followed in the Glen Cove Cemetery.

G. W. was born November 24, 1938 in Echo, Texas and was a graduate of Coleman High School.  He had lived in Early, Texas since 1971 and was an electrician.

He is survived by three daughters, Stacci Slayton of Hamilton, Charleene Hayes and Lesley Reynolds both of Brownwood; four sons, Guy  Wayne Slayton and Lantz Jay Slayton both of Early, Lang Ray Slayton of Aztec, New Mexico and James Calvin Slayton of Brownwood; a foster child, Dean Reeise; six sisters, Louise Strength, Irene Matthews and Sandra Wilson all of Coleman, Fredna Horton of Santa Anna, Francis Smith of Lohn and Delores Fenton of Johnson City; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Kemp Slayton.

Sherry Lynn Gilmore, 51

Funeral services for Sherry Lynn Gilmore, 51, of Brownwood were held at 3 p. m. Sunday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Ken Green officiating.  Private family interment followed at Eastlawn Memorial Park.  Sherry passed away on Friday, August 10, 2007 at her home.

She was born on April 12, 1956 in Coleman, Texas to Mary (Jerry) Crawford and Joseph Gilmore, Jr.  Sherry worked for Brownwood Regional Medical Center for 19 years as a medical transcriptionist and medical staff secretary before becoming disabled.  She also worked with the Girls' Softball Association as a coach for many years.  Sherry was very instrumental in getting the first girls' softball park built.  She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Mary Gilmore of Brownwood; sisters, Carol and Randall Thompson of Reston, Virginia, Carla and Monty Edwards of Brownwood and her twin brother, Terry and Karen Gilmore of Oak Hill, Virginia; nieces and nephew Tami and Eric Denslinger of Lutz, Florida, Jennifer Edwards of Brownwood, Susan and Ian Kent of Reston, Virginia, Cary Gilmore of Oak Hill, Virginia, and Jeff and Liz Gilmore of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and great-niece and great-nephew, Megan and Evan Denslinger of Lutz, Florida.  Sherry is also survived by her aunts, Gloria and Herbert Janner of Brenham and Bettie and Roland Duus of Rockwood.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry; and her grandparents, Joseph and Eula Gilmore and Hiram and Bee Crawford.  Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Second Street, Brownwood, Texas 76801 or to a charity of choice.

Tommy Holland, age 73, of Baird, Texas (father of Tammy Davis of Coleman) passed away Friday, August 10, 2007 in Hendrick Hospice in Abilene, Texas.  Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2007 in the First Baptist Church of Baird with Rev. Truman Johnson officiating.  Services were under the direction of Parker Funeral Home.

Tommy was born August 20, 1933, in Collin County, Texas to the late Oscar Holland and Lena Jones Holland.  He attended schools in Melissa and Anna, and later served in the United States Army.  He and his wife, Pat Bell Holland, had lived in Baird since 1964 where he was a member of the Baird Chamber of Commerce and Shady Oaks Golf Club.  He was serving his 19th year as Callahan County Commissioner in Precinct 3.  He had previously worked 33 years as Superintendent for J. H. Strain and Sons of Tye, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Pat, of Baird; three daughters, Tammy Davis of Coleman, Cristi Moore of Baird, and Jill Holland of Clyde; six grandchildren, Bill and Kelly Windham, Jade and Kenneth Angel, Holli Moore, Sawyer Smith, Taylor Davis and Heidi Hopkins; three great-grandchildren, Creek, Wyatt and Slade Windham; one brother, Charles Holland; one sister-in-law, Pete Holland; and two brothers-in- law, Mike Bell and Monty Bell.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angi Richards; two brothers, Bill and Haskell Holland; and one sister, Lela Appelbee.

Charles Breedlove, 70

Funeral services for Charles Breedlove, of Lake Brownwood, will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2007 in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Davis and Dr. Robert Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery.

Charles passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  He was born on October 8, 1936 in Coleman to Albert and Lilly Aleene Herd Breedlove.  He attended Coleman schools and married Nita Traylor on December 21, 1957 in First Baptist Church, Coleman.

Charles worked for Goodyear Tire Company as a store manager for several years before moving to Austin and purchasing his own Firestone location.  He owned and operated the Perry Rose Firestone store in the Capital Plaza shopping center for a number of years before retiring.  He later owned an aircraft refinishing business before moving to Lake Brownwood and purchasing Don Johnson Realtors.  He later sold the real estate business to Mark Campbell, retiring for the third time.  Charles was a member of First Baptist Church and Dr. Robert Smith's Sunday School Class.  While in Austin Charles taught a high school Sunday School Class for many years at Allandale Baptist Church.

Charles is survived by his wife, Nita Breedlove of Lake Brownwood, two sons, Greg Breedlove and wife Janet of Taylor, Texas and Scott Breedlove of south Texas, a granddaughter, Ami Mayfield and husband Jonathan of London, England, and a number of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Betty Day of Coleman passed away Monday, August 13, 2007 at 6:45 a.m. at the Bangs Nursing Home in Bangs, Texas.  Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Henderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dianne Cree and Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating.  Interment will follow at the Rockwood Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

She was born Betty June Estes on August 10, 1929 in Rockwood, Texas to the late Leffel and Dona Boatright Estes.  Betty was raised in Rockwood attending the Rockwood Schools and graduating from Mozelle High School in 1947.  On September 4, 1948 she married Cecil Day in Coleman, Texas and they celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage.  Betty was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a homemaker.


Survivors include her husband, Cecil Day of Coleman, Texas; two daughters, Sherry and husband Paul Schultz of Lawrence, Kansas; Suzy and husband Mike Kerbow of Seguin, Texas; two sons, Ricky and wife Dee-Ann Day of of Willow Park, Texas; Shawn and wife Laura Day of South Fork, Colorado; a sister, Louise McClellan of Coleman, Texas; a brother, Bruce Estes of Gouldbusk, Texas; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.

Sandra "Sandy" Susanne Humphrey, age 62 of Kerrville Texas, passed away on August  14, 2007 in a local hospital.  Visitation will be held Friday, August 17, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson in Kerrville, Texas.  Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 625 Washington Street in Kerrville officiated by Dr. George Harris at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007.  Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Sandy was born in Coleman, Texas on July 15, 1945.  She moved to Kerrville in 1966 and has been an active member and leader of the First Baptist Church of Kerrville for 41 years, serving on numerous church committees as well as being a long term member of their church choir.  She worked in the Kerrville banking industry and most recently with the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce as their Communication officer and event planner.  She gave all the energy and love she had to her family, her church and her community.  She was preceded by her parents Ruby Estelle Humphrey and John Duane Humphrey.

She is survived by her brother, Gerald Duane Humphrey, his wife Linda Kay Humphrey of Spring Texas and their children Wesley Humphrey and Tera Humphrey both of Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or to the First Baptist Church of Kerrville's Choir in memory of Sandy.

Olive Flynn

Olive Fynn, age 82, of Coleman, died Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Russell E. Fisher officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Olive Stanger on December 26, 1924 in Warrington, England, a daughter of Albert and Leah Stanger.  She grew up in Warrington and witnessed first-hand the German bombings of World War II.  On December 26, 1942 she married Ben A. Flynn, an American serviceman, in Warrington.  Following the war, Olive left her family in England to join her husband in Breckenridge, Texas.  Olive and Ben lived in Oklahoma, Kentucky and Montana before moving to Coleman in 1962 with their three sons.  Ben preceded her in death on June 23, 1996.  Olive was a homemaker and also worked for many years for H & R Block.  She was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the Coleman County Medical Center Auxiliary.  She volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels and other charitable causes.

Survivors include three sons, David Flynn of Coleman, Bennie Flynn of Coleman and Larry and wife Jean Flynn of Southlake; one sister, Muriel Reeves and husband George of Warrington, England; five grandchildren, Alissa Hohmann and husband Dan of Coleman, Ben J. Flynn of Coleman, Teresa Edgar and husband Kevin of Denton, Tyler and Sarah Flynn, both of Southlake; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jacob and Grace; a sister-in-law, Marguriette Bradney and husband Barney of New Braunfels.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 609 S. Neches, Coleman, Texas 76834, Coleman County Foundation, P. O. Box 700, Coleman, Texas 76834 or donor's charity of choice. 

Family visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Stevens Funeral Home.

Vera Callie Wells, 84

Vera Wells of Breckenridge, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Villa Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Graveside Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 25th, in the Trickham Cemetery, in Trickham, Texas with Rolland McLean officiating.  Burial will be under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Vera Callie Wells was born on January 9, 1923 in Bell County, Texas to parents, Ernest Noble Carpenter and Callie Yielding Carpenter.  She married Jim Ferguson Wells on November 1, 1947 in Coleman, Texas.  She moved to Breckenridge in 2000 from Santa Anna, and then moved to Graham in 2004.  Vera was a member of East Side Church of Christ in Graham.  Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister.

Vera is survived by one son, James L. Wells and wife, Dianna, of Graham; one sister, Irene Smith, of Grape Creek; one granddaughter, Erica and husband, Glen Wagley, of Breckenridge; and two great grandsons, James C. Wells, and Colton Wagley, both of Breckenridge.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be left at Morehart Mortuary.

Stephen Jack Lowe, 61

Stephen Jack Lowe, 61, of Brownwood, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood with Rev. Ricky Cavitt officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

Stephen Jack Lowe was born October 24, 1945 in Brownwood, the son of John Lowe and Nyo Lefner Lowe.  He grew up in California, graduating from Hemet High School in 1963.  He graduated from San Bernadino Valley Junior College with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1966 and from the University of Montana at Missoula with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in 1974.  After graduation, he was hired by the New York Mets Baseball Organization in their Minor League System as Athletic Trainer for eight years.  He drove for Mayflower Transit Company for 21 years, retiring in 2003.  He was a Baptist, had a great love for sports and traveling the world.  He will be missed by all.

Stephen is survived by his mother, Nyo Lowe of Brownwood; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert F. and Carolyn Lowe of Brownwood; uncle and aunt, Dwight and Glenna Lefner of Bethel, Alaska; nephew, Robert E. Lowe, and wife Jeanna, of Coleman; nieces, Nancy Trowbridge of Brownwood, Katherine Redmon of Burgin, Kentucky; three great nieces four great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Lowe on July 28, 1977; paternal grandparents, Robert E. and Anna A. Vaughn Lowe; maternal grandparents, Stephen G. and Mary E. Weedon Lefner and uncle and aunt, DeWitt and Wanda Lefner Fields.

Family visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2007 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 209 South Danville, Ste. B-107, P. O. Box 41, Abilene, Texas 79604 or the donor's favorite charity.

Mrs. Luberta Preas, 94

Mrs. Luberta Preas, age 94, of Silver Valley, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at her residence.  Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2007 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Elizabeth Luberta Cox on March 3, 1913 in Comanche County, Texas, a daughter of Jesse Johnson Cox and Willie Irene Pate Cox.  She moved with her family to Coleman County as a small child where they lived in White Chapel and Glen Cove area.  She attended school at Anderson.  On December 4, 1931 she married Curtis Arnold Preas in Coleman County and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1969.  She was a homemaker and a member of North Coleman Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald J. and Virginia Preas of N. Richland Hills, Cecil Gene and Cynthia Preas of Midland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and M. H. Gildon of Rockport, Brenda and Ervin Wells of Silver Valley; one sister, Sadie Cox of Odessa; one brother, Cecil R. Cox of Odessa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; son-in-law, Robert Haupert of Farmington, NM;  daughter-in-law, Kittie Koukalik of Marana, Arizona; a family friend, Wanda Corder of Silver Valley.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six children, Maxine Malone, Vivian Haupert, Duane Preas, Linda Preas, Larry Preas and Terry Preas; granddaughter, Heather Rogers; great-granddaughter, Micayla Barnett.

Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big County, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Franklin C. Yates, 88

Franklin C. Yates, 88, passed away August 25, 2007.  Graveside services were held Sunday, September 2nd, at 2 p.m. at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston.

He was born in Coleman, Texas August 18, 1919 to William Edward Yates and Quilla Jane (Wester) Yates.  In Word War II, he served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe as a Technical Sergeant in Company I, 395th Infantry.  He married Ethel upon his return from the war, where he made his career at Azrock in Houston.  Franklin was a loving and honorable man and will be remembered as a hero and true inspiration by those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ethel, and by his parents and two sisters Ovialee Raymer and Allie Draper both of Coleman.

He was survived by a niece, Anita Raymer Brown of Abilene, Texas, and two nephews Carroll Draper of Buda, Texas and Alan Draper of Granbury, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Aubrey Roe Smith, 84

Aubrey Roe Smith went to meet his Lord on August 28, 2007.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Reverend Lynn Rice officiating.  Interment will follow at Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman, Texas.  The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2007 at Heartland Funeral Home.

He was born to Roe and Juanita Eller Smith on June 13, 1923.  He grew up and went to school in the Coleman area at Loss Creek. 
When Aubrey was 16 he went on the wheat harvest with his Dad and 2 brothers.  During World War II he was a foreman in a battle shipyard in Oregon where he met and married Helen Schein.  To this union 5 children were born.  After logging in Oregon for a couple of years, he returned to Texas where he did concrete and construction work until 1953 when he purchased a farm in South Dakota.  It was there he raised his family.  In 1970 he moved back to Texas traveling back and forth to South Dakota farming with his son until he purchased a gravel business in Conroe 4 years later.  In 1980 he married Joyce Hanks.  They enjoyed traveling and fishing together and playing games with friends and family.  In 2004 they moved to Brownwood and resided there until he went to be with the Lord.

He is survived by his wife Joyce; his children, Harlan and Sharon Smith of Harrold, South Dakota; Yvonne and Mike Broadhurst of Bluffton, South Carolina; Bonnie and Ben Taves of Seattle, Washington; Barbara and Rick Leesman of Blunt, South Dakota; Vickie and Ray Mazurek of Brownwood; Brenda Hanks Bills and husband Jimmy of Lake Brownwood; Randy and Marla Hanks of Abilene; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Thelma Sheffield of Austin, and Jane and Kenneth Bennett of Harrah, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, seven brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Patsy Louise Milner Sparks, 54

Patsy Sparks, of Gouldbusk, Texas, died, Tuesday, August 28, 2007 in a car accident.  Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, September 2, 2007 at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early.

Patsy Sparks was born May 19, 1953 in Brownwood, Texas the daughter of the late Oscar and Marjorie Beenders Milner.  Patsy lived all of her life in Brownwood, Texas and worked for 18 years for West Texas Printing.  Patsy graduated from Early High School.

Husband Ramey Sparks, Son Jason Brent Hall and wife Brandy, Daughter Laura Ann Hall, Granddaughters Lauren Brent and Chy Ann Hall, survive Patsy.  Also by numerous friends and family.

Waylon Dale Penny was born on July 22, 2007 and left this life on August 28, 2007.  Graveside services were held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Miles Cemetery in Miles, Texas with Tommy King officiating.

Waylon was survived by his arents, Billy Penny and Amanda McKillip of Grape Creek; sister, Chelsea Penny; grandparents, Bill and Geneva Penny of Lake Ivie; Ronda Adams of San Diego; and Jerry and Laquita McKillip of Gorman; great grandparents, Bobbie McKillip, Randell and Margaret Adams, and Frances Smith; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his great grandfather, Dale Smith.

Pallbearers were Billy Penny, Fred Wells, Pate Powell and Jeremy Martin.

Alice Hollins, 58

Mrs. Alice Hollins, of Coleman, passed away August 30, 2007, at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.

She was born January 1, 1949 in Marion, Alabama and had lived in Coleman since January, 2006.  She was married to William C. Hollins in Liberty, Texas June 11, 1980.  She moved to Texas at the age of 16 in the Rockport area and did volunteer work with the school systems.  She was a Baptist.

She is survived by her husband, William C. (Bill) Hollins of Coleman; daughter, Judy Carol Helton and son Winford Riner; one grandson, Avery Helton; granddaughters, Ashley Worrell and Shelby Adkison; step-granddaughter, Cassandra Helton; five sisters, Elaine Smallwood, Shirley Hollins, Marcella Meeks, Martha Jones, Clara May Soape; four brothers, Fred Stone, Don Wayne Beagle, Eddie Simmons, and Richard Simmons.
