Tyler Lee Dean, Infant

Tyler Lee Dean, infant son of Debby Dean, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2006 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Tyler was born Friday, June 2, 2006 in Coleman.

Tyler is survived by his mother, Debby Dean of Coleman, two sisters, Jennifer Dean and Jessica Dean, both of Coleman; grandparents, Sandra and Othell Dean of Coleman; great-grandmother, Vera Felty of Coleman and an uncle, Robert Ely of Brownwood.

James "Skip" Sumrall, 59

James "Skip" Sumrall, age 59, of Coleman, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Graveside funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 at Burkett Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating and eulogy by Danny McGowen.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  The procession to Burkett Cemetery will leave Stevens Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

James "Skip" Sumrall was born September 10, 1946 in O’Donnell, Texas, a son of Melvin Riley Sumrall and Jesse Sawyer Sumrall Hardin.  He grew up and attended school in Lamesa.  On April 27, 1989 he married Hannah Brown in Fredericksburg, Texas.  He had lived in Coleman since 1989 and was a home health supervisor with Chartwell Home Care.  He was Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Hannah Sumrall of Coleman; son, Corey Sanford of Coleman; two daughters, Mychelle Sumrall of Fort Worth, Shayna Markham of Carrollton; one granddaughter, McKenzie Markham of Carrollton; one sister, Bobbie Fincannon of Ruidoso, New Mexico; one nephew, Jerry Morris of Lubbock; one niece, Gayle Coffer of Lubbock; one great-niece Amanda Morris and one great-nephew, Lucas Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Melvin Sumrall.

Lilly Porter, 93

Lilly Porter, age 93, of Coleman died Saturday, June 3, 2006 in a Big Spring hospital.  Graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 5 at Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be held Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Lilly Porter was born January 27, 1913 in Burkett, Texas, a daughter of Otto Thate and Dora Graf Thate.  She grew up in Burkett.  On December 17, 1933 she married Bennie T. Porter in Coleman and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1994.  Mrs. Porter had worked as a sales clerk at J. E. Stevens Company and was a homemaker.  She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bennie L. and Ruelene Porter of Big Spring; two granddaughters, Nancy Porter of Big Spring, Jana Porter of Andrews; four great-grandchildren, Weldon Gibbs, Heather Vaughan, Paden Black, Mylia Black; two great-great grandchildren, Brianna Gibbs, Sara Gibbs; two special nieces, Lavada Fay Young of Coleman, Leila Cathey of Lindale and other nieces and nephews.

Marshall Altom, 84

Marshall Altom, 84, of Hillsboro (formerly of Coleman) passed away on June 3, 2006 at Hill Regional Hospital.  Graveside services were Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Ridge Park Cemetery, Hillsboro.  Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Marshall  was born August 7, 1921 in the Echo Community in Coleman County to David Andrew and Halley (Beeler) Altom.  He grew up in Coleman where he graduated from high school.  Marshall earned both a Bachelor and Masters degree from Hardin-Simmons University.  He taught science and math for many years, primarily in Garland.  During World War II, he served in the United States Marines.  On December 17, 1988 he married Wanda Bennett in Waco.  Marshall retired to Hillsboro in 1984.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro; member of the National Rifle Assn. and the Retired Teachers Association.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alta Lee (Kerbow) Altom on June 4, 1987; daughter, Kathy Ann Altom on July 28, 1999; one sister, Audrey Mitchell and one brother, Alvin Altom.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Bennett Conner Altom of Hillsboro; step-son, Jonathan Conner of Houston; brothers, Wayne Altom and wife, Cleone of Garland, Merlyn Altom and wife, Eva of Cherokee; sister-in-law, Emmer (Perkins) Altom of Irving and several nieces and nephews including Anita Altom of Seagoville.  Survivors living in the Coleman area: Uncle, Dumas Beeler of Holiday Hill; cousins, William Stanphill, Sylbia Ransberger, Bob Weaver, Jana Knowles, Doris Williams, Teresa Hammonds and Bard Wilkinson.

Nellie Jo White Creel

Nellie Jo White Creel of San Angelo passed away on June 5, 2006.  Funeral services will be today (Thursday, June 8th) at 2:00 p.m. in Johnson¹s Funeral Home Chapel, San Angelo.  Burial will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

She was born May 2, 1926 in Coleman, Texas to George McClendon and Annie Stuckey White.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Creel Sr. and two brothers, Jim and Arthur White.  Nellie was instrumental in forming the "Singing Saints."  She was a member of Edmund Blvd. Baptist Church, formerly Lindell Avenue Baptist Church for 53 years.

Survivors include three children, Barbara and Ricardo Olguin of Sweetwater, Diane Creel of Colorado City and Bobby and Lonna Creel of Lubbock; one sister, Edna Mae Boone of San Antonio; grandchildren, Teresa and Randy Smith, Mary Roberts, Bobby and Shelley Pohle, Richard and Lyann Pohle, Rose Creel and Haley Rose Creel; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. J. A. Bozeman, 79

Mrs. J. A. (Vivian) Bozeman, age 79, of Coleman, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at her residence.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Elm Street Church of Christ with Joe Hailey and Fred Bozeman officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born July 24, 1926 in Lohn, Texas, a daughter of W. R. Jewell and Rena Jones Jewell.  She grew up in Silver Valley and attended school there and in Coleman.  On September 20, 1945 she married J. A. Bozeman in Coleman and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2001.  Mrs. Bozeman was a homemaker and a business partner with her husband in Bozeman Plumbing.  She was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, helped with funeral meals and sang with the church group for funerals and weddings.

Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Joyce Poisall and husband Charles E. of Coleman and Melissa Joy Bagley and husband Terry of Brownwood; one son, Fred Bozeman and wife Carol of Rye, Colorado; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gordon Conway, 75

Gordon Conway, age 75, of Coleman died Friday, June 9, 2006 at Hendrick Medical Center.   Funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Gordon Conway was born May 28, 1931 in Coleman, Texas, the son of P. D. Conway and Alta Mae Mow Conway.  He grew up in Coleman, attended school in Coleman and graduated from Centennial High School.  On June 11, 1952 he
married Charlene Burrow in Coleman.  He worked for Martin Brick for 20 years where he was a Load Foreman and was self-employed in farming for 35 years.  He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Conway of Coleman; two daughters, Patricia Elaine Berry and husband Jimmie of Coleman, Glenda Jean Swan and husband Johnny Ray of Crossett, Arkansas; one sister, Iva Dell Lively of Clyde; five grandchildren, Michael "Stopper" Chapman of Junction, Shana Michelle Jewell and husband Michael of Coleman, Shelly Marie Parson and husband Kim of Abilene, Clinton Dewayne Walker of McCool, Mississippi, Christie Leigh Messinger and husband Jeff of Bastrop, Louisiana; nine great-grandchildren, Cody Chapman, Kendall and Jared Walker, Jordan Jewell, Cade Spikes, Henry and Reid Messinger, Kobi and Kory Dobbins; a very dear friend of the family, Wally Dobbins of Coleman; several nieces and nephews.

Norene (Tootie) Rhoads, 69

Norene (Tootie) Strickland Rhoads, 69, of Breckenridge, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 in Abilene, Texas.  Services were Monday at 3:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Breckenridge.  Graveside services were held at 6:00 p.m. at the Burkett Cemetery in Burkett, Texas.  Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home of Breckenridge was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rhoads was born March 24, 1937, in Burkett, Texas, to Tom and Girlie Strickland.  She married Allen Rhoads November 29, 1956 in Burkett, Texas.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Allen, of Breckenridge, Texas; two sons, Randy and wife Kimber, of Katy, Texas and Michael of Norman, Oklahoma; and one daughter, Cindy Parsons, and husband, Rocky, of Albany, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; her sister, Mary Hightower of Cisco, Texas; brothers, Eddie Strickland of Burkett, Texas and Sonny and Maria Strickland of Doss, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Bill, Jack and Tommy Strickland.  Memorials can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society¹s Relay for Life unit of Shackelford County, P.O. Box 949, Albany, Texas 76430.

J. A. Summers, 82

J. A. Summers, 82, died June 10, 2006 in El Paso, Texas after an illness.  Visitation was held Wednesday, June 14th at Hillcrest Funeral Home with graveside services at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on Thursday, June 15th with Pastor Ron Webb officiating and military rites by Fort Bliss soldiers.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions (for a scholarship) may be sent in J. A.¹s name to the Ysleta Education Foundation, 9600 Sims, El Paso, Texas 79925.

He was born August 9, 1923 to Jesse and Pearl Sparks Summers near Talpa, Coleman County, Texas.  He graduated from Talpa High School as salutatorian of his class.  He wanted to further his education but lacked the entrance fees.  His agriculture teacher, Prof. Richardson paid his entrance fees to John Tarleton and he finished in less than two years.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. His plane was shot down and he was captured and spent almost four months in a German prison camp with little food to eat. Finally, they were released by Americans and he arrived home in Talpa in August 1945.  He was released from the Air Force, enrolled in the University of Texas where he received a degree.  His determination to get a degree led his brothers and sisters to seek their degrees.  J. A. met and married Joyce Gatron in Pleasanton, Texas. They moved to El Paso where he was an educator, teaching for 26 years in Bel Air High School.

J. A. was preceded in death by his parents, and his older brother Nurry, who was killed in Luxemburg in December 1944, just before J. A. was captured.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce; three daughters, Sandra Olsen, Cheryl Anderson and Jana Crum; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  He was also a brother to Douglas of Austin, Harvey of Burney, Phil of Whiterock; his sisters, Ila Mae Bullion of Lubbock, Nadine Nibling of San Angelo and Lou Ann Hedden of Wall.  Local relatives include Helen Smith of Valera, Margie Dodson of Coleman and others.

Josh Schmidt, 22

Josh Schmidt, 22 years of age, born December 4, 1983 in Lamesa, California, passed away June 11, 2006 at his residence in Coleman.  Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Rough Creek Cemetery Pavilion with interment to follow under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Josh had lived in Coleman most of his life and was a member of the Novice Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Joan and Dwight Keeney of Novice; father and step-mother, Mike and Susan Schmidt of Lawn, Texas; maternal grandmother, Patricia Mulder of Novice; paternal grandfather, Henry Schmidt of Lamesa, California; two sisters, Sarah Schmidt and Patricia Schmidt, both of Novice; brother, Daniel Schmidt of  Coleman; step-sister, Bailey Yates of Lawn; niece, Willie Ruth Schmidt of Novice; nephew, Joseph Shay Moore of Novice.

Pallbearers will be Danny Schmidt, Ryan Kincaid, Preston Kincaid, Bobby Huddle, Tanner Spikes and Wes Steffey.  Family visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home.

Haley Nicole Griffin, infant

Haley Nicole Griffin, infant daughter of Brandon Griffin and Holly Davis, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.  Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Haley was born on June 11, 2006.

Survivors include her parents, Brandon Griffin and Holly Davis, both of Coleman; one brother, Bernard Griffin of Coleman; grandparents, Wanda and Jim Rohacek of Coleman, Jody and James Taylor of Azle; great grandparents, Ofleta Carraway of Coleman, James O. and Betty Taylor of Fort Worth and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Haley was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Elroy Davis and Bernie Griffin.  Family visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at the funeral home.

Wanda Jean McAnally, 83

Wanda Jean McAnally, 83, of Burkett, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at her residence.  Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2006 at the Burkett Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Jeff Miller officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Wanda Jean Burns on May 6, 1923 in Burkett, the daughter of Charlie Clayton Burns and Ruby Tennessee Harris Burns.  She grew up and attended school at Burkett.  She married Byron Jesse McAnally on April 1, 1946 in Cross Plains.  He preceded her in death on April 21, 2003.  She was a homemaker, member of the Burkett Quilting Club and a member of the First Baptist Church in Burkett.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Norman D. Lubke of San Angelo; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Louanne McAnally of Coleman; two grandchildren, Kellye Jean Martin and husband, John of Dallas, Christopher David Lubke and fiancée, Julie Smith of Seattle, Washington and one niece and five nephews.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ruby Martin, 86

Ruby Martin, 86, of Coleman, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Songbird Lodge in Brownwood.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Ruby Hazel Jones on March 22, 1920 in Garland, the daughter of William Thomas Jones and Mary Lillian Corley Jones.  She grew up in Garland and graduated from high school in 1939.  During World War II, she was a "Rosie the Riveter."  On December 9, 1945, she married Ellis E. Martin in Richardson.  He preceded her in death on March 17, 2005.  She was a homemaker, a member of the Quilting Club and a member of Concho Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Shaw of Early; two sons, Tom Martin of Garland, Phillip Martin of Haskell; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Pentecost and one brother, Herbert Jones.  Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Henke, 80

Mary Henke, 80, longtime resident of Pasadena, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2006 after a long illness.  Funeral service will be held Friday, June 16, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 824 S. Main, Pasadena, Texas 77506.  Rite of committal will follow at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena.  Visitation will be tonight (Thursday) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home of Pasadena.

Mary was born in Coleman, Texas on April 24, 1926.

She is survived by her loving husband, Walter Henke; two daughters, Karen Wanjura and Charlotte Henke both of Cypress, Texas; son-in-law, Mike Wanjura; six grandchildren, Christi Lyle, Jennifer Wanjura, Elizabeth Norris, Dylan Norris, Logan Norris and Savannah Rodriguez; and grandson-in-law, Tommy Lyle.

Raymond F. Steward, 75

Raymond F. Steward, 75, of Odessa, died June 14, 2006, at his residence. Memorial services will be 3:30 Pm Saturday, June 17th at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Raymond Fondren Steward was born December 6, 1930 in San Antonio, TX to Ray and Inez (Fondren) Steward. He lived in Rockwood and graduated High School at Santa Anna. Raymond attended Tarlton College and in 1950, he moved to San Angelo where he married Louise Averett on January 21, 1951. In 1952, Raymond entered the US Army and served two years. He loved and had a passion for, construction machinery sales. This career took Raymond all over the world. He worked for Oilwell Supply, Engine Services, Ingresoll Rand Equipment and Airmasters. Even in his last few months, Raymond was working and putting together a deal.

Raymond was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed swimming at Lake LBJ and relaxing in Ruidoso and attending the Blue Grass Music Festivals.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

He is survived by his wife, Louise, of Odessa; a son, Ronnie Steward of Odessa, daughters, Judy Wideman and husband Mel of Lubbock and Karen Echols and husband Eric of Chandler, AZ a brother, Jay Steward and wife Chelly of Odessa; two sisters, Mickie Campbell and husband Ray of Alvin and Deborah Steward of Silver City, NM.; two grandsons, Scott and wife Misty and Kyle Steward and two great-grandsons, Kade Parson and Jackson Steward.

Dorothy Stringer, 84

LAKEWOOD VILLAGE:  Funeral services for Dorothy D. Stringer, 84, of Lockwood Village, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Button Memorial Methodist Church in Little Elm with John Gowling officiating.  Burial followed at Coleman City Cemetery.  She died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at her home.

She was born on October 17, 1921 in Brownwood.  She was married to Howard W. Stringer.

Survivors include one son, Warren Stringer of Little Elm; one sister, Mary Lou Chambers of Brownwood; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Frank Dibrell.

Mary "Louise" Hill, 85

Mary “Louise” Hill, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2006, surrounded by her family.  We are sad for her passing, we celebrate her life and we cherish the many memories of our beloved Mother and "Grannie."  The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation, Friday, from  6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.  Graveside services will be held with the family at 9:30 am on Saturday, June 17, at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery.  Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 17, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ava Berry officiating.  Her seven grandsons will be pallbearers.

 Mrs. Hill was born November 19, 1920 in Hosston, Louisiana.  She married Carl Granvell Hill November 9, 1935.  Louise enjoyed life, her family, many different activities, painting, numerous years of volunteer service at Abilene Regional Center and her involvement at St. Paul United Methodist Church where she had been a member for many years.  She has been a resident of Taylor County for more than sixty four years.

Her survivors include her five children and their spouses, Ralph and (Janie Rose) Thornhill of Abilene, David Carl Hill of Buffalo Gap, Jim and (Judy Len) Needham of Coleman, David and (Noel Lou) Benningfield of Georgetown, Carmen Ann Shafer of Conroe, Texas, fourteen grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Granvell Hill of Tuscola and one great grandson, Brady Thomas Thornhill.

Her family would like to thank the excellent doctors and medical staff of Abilene Regional Medical Center, Sears Methodist Center and Sears Methodist Hospice for their dedicated care and friends for the many cards, gifts and prayers given during her illness.  Contributions may be given to the "Mary Louise Hill Fund, for the benefit of Chapel Memorial," First Financial Bank, acct # 211005332.  Your gift will go for the placement of a memorial in her memory in the new Abilene Regional Medical Center Chapel.

Mrs. Frankie Lee McCarthy, age 100, of Austin, Texas died Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Heritage Duval Gardens in Austin.  A memorial service was conducted Wednesday, June 21st, at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Duval Gardens and Mrs. McCarthy¹s body will be cremated.  Arrangements were by Sneed Funeral Chapel of Lampasas, Texas.

Mrs. McCarthy was born February 8, 1906 in Rockwood, Texas, the daughter of Frances Lankford and Tina Blanche Ward Lankford.  She moved to Dallas as a young adult and began working for a fine men¹s clothier and remained there for 35 years.  After the passing of two husbands, she moved back to her place of birth, near Santa Anna, Texas and lived independently until the age of 97.  She had been a resident of Heritage Duval Gardens in Austin for the last three years.  She was a member of the Methodist faith, and the Eastern Star, as well as the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Survivors incudes two grandchildren, Debra Goodman of Austin and Mark Kendrick of New Braunfels; four great-grandchildren: Jason, Sam, Katie and Quincey; and son-in-law, A. J. Dewaine Kendrick of Lampasas. 

Mrs. McCarthy was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Helen Kendrick and by 10 brothers and sisters.

Jovita Garza, 84

Jovita Garza, 84, of Cisco passed away in Coleman Healthcare Center on Thursday June 15, 2006.  Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday June 17, 2006 at Mountain Top Church, officiated by Reverend Scott Rasco with burial in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Mrs. Garza was born in Tyler, Texas on January 29, 1922 to Antonio and Guadalupe (Ramirez) Lopez.  She married Nicolas (Nick) Garza, Sr. in San Antonio.  He preceded her in death.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Nick Garza, Jr, and wife Elaena of Zapata, Freddie Garza and wife Porforia of Cotulla, Alfred Garza and wife Carmen of Brownwood, Andy Garza and wife Caron of Houston; three daughters, Elia and husband Raymond Solis of Cisco, Lucilla and husband Larry Horn of Fort Myers, Florida, Elena and husband Dale McKinney of Goldsboro; 45 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons; Frank Garza and Emelio Garza; daughters, Lupe Williams, Mary Lou Yoch; brothers, Benito Lopez, Fidel Lopez and parents.  Pallbearers are Chris Pickett, Ephran Solis, John Longoria, Mark Conover, Alex Vara and Delbert Pitchford.

Gerrye Hill, 67

Gerrye Hill, age 67, of Brownwood, Texas passed away Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 10:27 a.m. at her residence in Brownwood.  Services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Interment will follow under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

She was born Geraldine Havner on March 22, 1939 in Coleman County, Texas to the late Ottis Lee and Floy May Dillard Havner.  Gerrye was raised in Coleman moving to Brownwood in 1954 where she graduated from Brownwood High School in 1957.  She was a member of the First Nazarene Church of Brownwood and had been employed with General Telephone for 31 years.

Survivors include a son, Marc and wife Anne Hill of Early, Texas; three sisters, Ruby and husband Charles Hosch of Santa Anna, Texas, Nelda and husband Bob Davis of Santa Anna, Texas, and Freda and husband Dale Purcell of Bangs, Texas; and two granddaughters.

Gerrye was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Nora Lucille Herring, 82

LAWN:  Nora Lucille Herring, 82, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 in Northern Oaks Nursing Home in Abilene.  Graveside services were 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Rough Creek Cemetery in Novice with Reverend Price Mathieson officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.

Lucille was born October 4, 1923 in New Mexico, to Sim and Laura Ratliff Clack.  She married W. A. "Tex" Herring in California.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Tex, in June 1980; a sister, Sybil Johnson; and a brother-in-law, W.A. "BilI" Stanley.

Survivors include one son, Weldon Herring of Lawn; two sisters, Gladys Mahan and husband Ellis and Modene Stanley, all of Brownwood; five nieces; three nephews; and numerous greatnieces and great-nephews and other relatives.

James Christian "Jim" Gist, 42

James Christian "Jim" Gist, age 42, of Dallas, died at Village Creek Motorcross Track in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday, June 18, 2006.  Services will be 10 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, June 23rd) at Johnson¹s Funeral Home in San Angelo.

He was born December 25, 1963 in Austin, Texas and attended San Angelo Central High School in San Angelo, Texas and El Centro College in Dallas.  His wife is the former Mary Jane (Janey) Espitia of Coleman.  James is survived by his father David and mother Johnnie Sue; his wife Mary Jane; daughter, Abra Jade; and sons, James Zachary and Gavin Lewis.  He is further survived by his brother David Michael and his wife Sheila; his sister, Mary Catherine Ott; and his grandmother Susie Smetana, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

James was an avid lover of sports such as ice hockey and motorcross.  He coached both of his son¹s hockey teams for many years.  He passed away on Sunday night after one last ride on his dirt bike, after which his heart failed him.  Jim never loved a little; he loved with his whole heart.  His wife and children were the center of his world.  He honored his parents and adored his brother and sister.

Noble James McSwane

Noble James McSwane passed away June 18, 2006 at his home in Tularosa, New Mexico.  Memorial services were held at Alamogordo, New Mexico Funeral Home Chapel officiated by family members.  Interment followed in the Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  A host of ten family and friends were there for the memorial.

He was born June 27, 1924 at Sealy Hospital in Santa Anna, Texas, the son of Bill and Dora Belle Trotter McSwane of Rockwood, Texas.  The family moved to Eldorado, Texas in 1925 where Noble started and finished high school.  Joining the Air Force soon after graduation, he retired after 30 years as a Lt. Colonel.  He was very dedicated to the Air Force.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Tularosa, New Mexico.

He had four sons, two of whom preceded him in death - Billie Fred, Gary, Jay and Harlon.  Jay lives in Ruidoso, New Mexico; Harlon in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  His wife Dorothy also survives and also lives in Tularosa, New Mexico.  Other survivors include one brother, Doug McSwane of Richardson, Texas.

Sandra Jean Stovall, 59

Ms. Sandra Jean Stovall, 59 years of age, the daughter of the late Ozell and Emma Clark, was born May 4, 1947 in Vernon, Texas and passed away in Coleman at her residence on June 19, 2006.  Services will be Friday, June 23, 2006 at 10 a.m. in Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Amarillo, Texas.  Walker Funeral Home of Coleman was in charge of local arrangements.

Sandra had lived in Coleman for the past 10 years and was a homemaker.

Survivors are two daughters, Patricia Chapman of Eagletown, Oklahoma and Machelle Blankenship of Amarillo, Texas; one son, Jimmy Lee Stovall of Colleyville, Texas; two brothers, Danny Clark and Bobby Clark, both of Amarillo; and five sisters.

Willie Lee "Leather" Day, 70

Memorial graveside services for Willie Lee "Leather" Day were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Adams Cemetery in Coleman County.  He died June 19, 2006 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center and was cremated under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home of Brownwood.

He was born October 3, 1935 in Coleman County, the son of B. C. and Katie Day.  He was married to Mildred Getz, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Charlie Joe Wheat; daughter Sandra Woodcox of Odessa; sister, Lorene Whorton of Brownwood; brothers, Edward Day of Winters, Rusty Day of Izora and Bill Day of Brownwood; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lethie Ann Day; sisters, Anna Faye Blevins and Ida May Keith; and brothers, Joe Day and B. C. "Preacher" Day.

Johnnie Ray Brooke , 68

Johnnie Ray Brooke passed peacefully from this life on the morning of June 20, 2006 at his home in Bangs, following a short illness.  He was 68 years young.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend that will truly be missed by all.  Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Bangs, Texas on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.  Interment will be in the Bangs Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.  Visitation will be today (Thursday, June 22, 2006) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born December 15, 1937 in Santa Anna.  He was the only son of Joe C. and Gracie Terry Brooke.  He married Libby Graves on September 1, 1956 in the Buffalo Community.  Johnnie worked in the dairy business with his dad during their first few years of marriage.  After brief careers in the oil field and aircraft manufacturing, Johnny and Libby owned and operated J & L Variety Store in Bangs for several years.  Johnnie went to work for Germania Insurance in 1974, retired 25 years later in 1999, and continued with his favorite hobby of farming and ranching until his passing.  Johnnie was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 32 Degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Bangs.  He was currently president of the Bangs Cemetery Association.  He served on the Bangs ISD school board from 1972-1975.  He was very active with the Brown County Youth Fair serving as co-chairman of the swine division while his children were in school.  Johnnie was also a member of the Snak Shak Coffee Club which he cherished very much.  During his spare time he enjoyed traveling with his devoted wife, and also sharing times with the joys of his life, his children and his grandchildren.  Johnnie (Pap Pu) was an avid Electra Tiger Fan, Olney Cub Fan and Bangs Dragon Fan as he watched his grandchildren participate in sports.

Johnnie leaves behind his wife Libby of 49 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Kimberly Brooke, their children Kayla and Joey of Bangs; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Mark Newton, their children, Cody and Cristen of Electra; and Chad and Haley Newton of Dallas; a daughter and son-in-law, Beckie and Ronnie Purcell, their children, Joshua and Benjamin of Bangs; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and John Sykora, their children Terri, John, Clancey, Brooke and Hunter of Olney; one sister and brother-in-law Charlsie and Bill Richardson of Cross Cut; a brother-in-law and wife, David and Joyce Graves of Granbury; a brother-in-law and wife Wilburn and Shirley Graves of Fort Worth; one sister-in-law, Mickie Waren of Fort Worth; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe C. and Gracie Brooke; and one sister, Billie Sparks.  Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Fund, Bangs or to the Bangs Cemetery Association.

Cherry June Bowers, 72

Cherry June Bowers of Red Rock, Texas died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the age of 72.  Visitation was held at Marrs- Jones- Newby- Funeral Home, in Bastrop, Texas from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006.  Services were held at 2 p.m. at the Bastrop Church of Christ on Sunday, June 25, 2006.  Burial was in Mason, Texas in Gooch Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2006.  In lieu of flowers a donation can be made  to the Bastrop Church of Christ Building Fund, 602 Pecan Street, Bastrop, Texas 78602.

Formally of Art and Brazoria, Texas she was born in Cross Plains, Texas on July 26, 1933.  A faithful servant of God, she was a member of the Bastrop Church of Christ.  Her magnetic smile and positive attitude were always uplifting to everyone in her presence.  We will deeply miss her but know that one day we will greet her again in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jesse Foster Bowers, her parents Anderson and Bobbie Woody and brother Floyd Woody.

A loving mother of five sons, she leaves behind Ted Bowers and wife Susan of Red Rock, Texas, Gary Bowers and wife Janice of Brazoria, Texas,  Bobby Bowers and wife Linda of Angleton, Texas; Dennis Bowers and wife Nadia of Brazoria, Texas;  Kim Bowers and wife Kimberly of Lake Jackson, Texas, nine grandchildren, and two great-
grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother, Buster Woody and wife Elaine of Troy, Texas and numerous other relatives and friends.

Jean Marshall, 76

OVALO:  Mabel Jean Marshall, 76, died Saturday, JUne 24, 2006 at her residence.  Services will be 10:00 a.m. today (Tuesday, June 27, 2006) at the Ovalo Baptist Church, with Reverend Price Mathieson officiating.  Burial will be in McBee Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.

Jean was born September 12, 1929 in Ovalo to Bessie Hancock Hawkins and John A. Hawkins.  She graduated from Ovalo High School.  In 1949, she married Alton Marshall in Ovalo.  He died in 1994.  She lived in Bangs for 15 years, returning to Ovalo in 1975 where she enjoyed quilting, horses and raising cattle.  She was employed at Abilene State School, retiring in 1992.  She was a Baptist.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Jo Abbott.

Survivors include three daughters, Jo Lynn Allbright of Houston, Lavonda Evans and husband Dana of Santa Anna, and Carol Ann Walker of Ovalo; one brother, Garland Hawkins of Cisco; a stepsister, Marcheta Mayfield of Lawn; a step-brother, Bob Cook of Dudley; six grandchildren, Heather Allbright, Matthew Allbright, Ariel Evans Holcomb, Alison Evans, Lauren De La Cruz and Jonathan Walker; five great-grandchildren; one aunt, Nancy Fleming of Venus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Grace Bozman, age 91 of Coleman, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. today (Thursday) at the White Chapel Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Miller of First United Methodist Church officiating.  Interment will follow under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Grace was born March 31, 1915 in Baird, Texas to the late Lowrey and Clara Gilliam Blakley.  She was a housewite and a member of the Methodist Church in Coleman.

Survivors include one sister, Bettie Blakley of San Angelo, Texas; one nephew, Don Bozman of Kingwood, Texas; one sister-in-law, Ruby Arms of Coleman; and other nieces and nephews.

Timothy Ray Kincaid passed away in Kaufman County on June 27, 2006.  Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Kaufman with Dr. Brent Gentzel officiating.  Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday at Atoka Cemetery in Coleman County.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman with local arrangements under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Timothy was born in Arlington, Texas on November 4, 1979 to Gary and Sheilah Brown Kincaid. He moved to Kaufman when he was two years old where he was reared.  He attended the Kaufman Schools and was a member of the Red Oak Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Gary and Sheilah Kincaid of Kaufman; brother, Gary Kincaid of Kaufman; sister, Sherrie Teel of Kaufman; fiancee, Alexis Riveria of Kaufman; aunts, uncles, three nieces, three nephews and other relatives and friends.

Dena Vinson, 34

Dena Vinson, age 34 of Coleman died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Graveside funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 30 at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Dena Vinson was born August 6, 1971 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Jerrell Vinson and Ray Pickett.  She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Panther Creek High School in 1990 where she was a cheerleader.  Dena worked as a cashier at Allsup’s Convenience Store and was also employed at Dairy Queen.  She was Baptist.

Survivors include her mother, Ray Pickett of Coleman; father, Jerrell Vinson of Marble Falls; daughter, Kali Ray Strickland of Coleman; one brother, Rickey Spurlock and wife Ruth of Columbia, Tennessee; two nephews, Scott Spurlock and Jeffery Spurlock both of Clarksville, Tennessee; one great-niece, Victoria Belle Spurlock of Clarksville, Tennessee; aunts and cousins.

Family visitation will be held today (Thursday) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice, 1900 Pine, Abilene, Texas 79601.  Pallbearers will be Melinda Bowen Ridner, Cheryl Strickland, Melinda Salas, Tiffani Stanford Bevly, Sherry Hyden and Jamie Carraway.
