Cloys Riley Dick, 92

Mrs. Cloys Riley Dick, age 92 of Coleman, Texas passed away Sunday April 2, 2006 at 7:08 p.m. at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.  Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Hailey officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Cloys was born December 29, 1913 in Coleman County to the late Grandville and Rosa Lee Williams Riley.  She was raised in Coleman where she was a 1933 graduate of Coleman High School.  She graduated in 1941 from Brownwood Business College.  On March 5, 1939 Cloys married Morrell W. Dick in Brownwood and they celebrated forty-six years of marriage.  Morrell preceded her in death in 1985.  They owned and operated Modern Way Food Store in Brownwood.  In 1947 they moved to Haskell and owned and operated Modern Way Food Store and Dick’s Refrigeration and Cloys worked as church secretary at Church of Christ.  Cloys returned to Coleman in 1991 where she was a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ and homemaker.

Survivors include one sister, Edna Sherry of Abilene, Texas; a step brother, Carl Woodring of Austin, Texas; 
local cousins, Wanda Dieterich of Coleman, Texas; Donald Ross Williams of Coleman, Texas; James Eubank of Santa Anna, Texas; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Monique Marie Newman, 39

Monique Marie Newman, 39, of Coleman, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at her home. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rodney Martin officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Monique was born in Forth Worth, on it’s 100th birthday, May 10, 1966 to Geneva McIntyre Newman and the late Dr. Phillips Newman.  She grew up and attended school in Lake Charles, Louisiana and Bridge City, Texas.  She spent many childhood days in Coleman, where her parents had a second home and a ranch.  She also spent a lot of her time with her aunt and uncle, Ray and Lucille Martin.  Her love of animals led her to Texas State Technical College, where she received her Associates Degree as a Veterinarian’s Assistant.  Monique later moved to the metroplex and started dealing in antique furnishings.  She was most proud of her business, Royal Tiques, which she established and ran in Arlington for several years.

Survivors include her mother, Geneva "Tiny" Newman of Coleman; sisters and brothers Inyce, Michelle, Richard and Laura; two aunts, Lucille Martin of Coleman, Juanita Cagle of Fort Clark Spring, Texas; one uncle, John "Sonny" McIntyre of Brownsville, two nephews, one niece and many cousins and friends, including a special friend, John Tsesmelis, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her father, a special cousin, Barney Martin and her good friend, James "Bub" Bowen. 

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be cousins.  Memorials may be made to Girling Hospice or the donor’s favorite charity.  Monique’s family wishes to thank her dear network of friends who loved, encouraged and supported her while battling cancer.  A special thank you to her cousins, Jeff and Shelly Velasco and Tony and Tracie Soto, who lovingly and tenderly cared for her in her final days.

Ruby Kile, 84

Ruby Kile, age 84 of Coleman, Texas passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 1:27 a.m. at the Coleman County Medical Center.  Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Marvin Hale officiating.  Interment will follow with Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman in charge of arrangements.

Ruby was born July 23, 1921 in Rockwood, Texas to the late William Henry and Lena Mary Davis Pitts.  She was a lifetime resident of Coleman where she graduated from the Mozelle Schools.  Ruby married Luther Preston Kile in Coleman on July 22, 1939 and they celebrated forty-five years of marriage.  Luther preceded her in death in 1986.  Ruby was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Dixie Bolen Ramirez of Abilene, Texas; a granddaughter, Lisa Cloud of Hamby, Texas; and a grandson, Brian Bolen of Coleman, Texas; and four great grandchildren.

Maida Hudson Blair, 93

Maida Hudson Blair age 93 of Lampasas passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Westview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor, Texas.  Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery with Rev. Margaret Willis Boles officiating.  Local arrangements with Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Maida was born on January 3, 1913 in Ochitree County, Texas to Henry and Pearl Venable Hudson.  She graduated from Gatesville High School and received her Bachelors of Science from Mary Hardin Baylor University.  On December 4, 1938 she married Floyd Blair who preceded her in death.  They owned and operated Piggly Wiggly grocery in Goldthwaite and Lampasas for many years.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lampasas where she taught Sunday school, served as a deacon and was a member of the United Presbyterian Women.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Louise Briery and Betty Carol Bracht; a grandson, James Bracht; and a great granddaughter.

Thelma Howard Throgmorton, 93

Thelma Howard Throgmorton, 93, of Coleman died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born Thelma Howard on April 17, 1912 in Gouldbusk, the daughter of Alvis Porter Howard and Ximena McDaniel Howard.  She grew in Gouldbusk and graduated from Coleman High School in 1929 and later graduated from Howard-Payne University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education.  She married Otis Throgmorton on May 24, 1946 in Gouldbusk.  He preceded her in death on March 2, 2005.  Mrs. Throgmorton taught in elementary schools for 30 years, teaching at Redbank, Starkwater, Priddy, Mozelle and Coleman.  She wrote the Voss News column in the Coleman Chronicle and Democrat-Voice for many years, was named Coleman County Rural Citizen of the Year in 1995, a charter member of the Delta Alpha Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, member of Captain William Buckner Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and a member of Voss Baptist Church.

Survivors include on daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Harold Skelton of Coleman; one son, Richard Throgmorton of Centennial; one brother and sister-in-law, William A. (Bill) and Opal Howard of Austin; several nieces and nephews including Michael Howard of California, Charlotte Grantier of Minnesota and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Carrie Howard.

Patsy "Pat" Marie Blankenship, 68

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at 2 p.m.  April 5, 2006 with family at her side.  The family will receive  family and friends on Monday April 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Metrocrest Funeral  Home, 1810 North Perry Road, Carrollton, Texas.  Services will be held at 10 a.m.  Tuesday April 11 at The Heights Baptist Church, 201 West Renner Road,  Richardson, Texas, with a private interment at the Dallas-Fort Worth National  Cemetery.

Pat was born March 20, 1934 in  Coleman, Texas.  Pat had a close and personal relationship with Jesus, loved  life and lived it with grace and dignity.  She had a gracious heart and loved her family and friends.  Preceded in death by her parents Ben and Zella  Floyd, and her brother Odell Floyd; her living siblings are Estelle Latimer, Edna Mae Jackson, Pete Floyd, Kenneth Floyd, and Gary Don Floyd.

Survivors  include her husband of 54 years, Calvin Blankenship, Sr.; Calvin Jr. and  Marci Blankenship and their sons: Patrick, James, and Daniel; Vinita Spann  and daughters Heather and Amanda; Mark and Karen Blankenship; and Jimmie  Blankenship, his sons Adam, Eric, Ian - and their mother Suzanne.  Great  great- grandchildren are Zachary, Tanner, and Morgan.

Estherlene "Jackie" Griffith, 91

Estherlene "Jackie" Griffith, 91, of Coleman died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2006 at the Elm Street Church of Christ.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born Estherlene Elizabeth Lancaster on May 24, 1914 in Jarral, Texas, the daughter of William Thomas Lancaster and Mary Lenora Milam Lancaster.  She grew up in Brown and Coleman Counties and graduated from Buffalo school.  She married Odie Griffith on December 4, 1932 in Brownwood.  She was a farmer and a housewife and a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Odie Griffith of Coleman; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Wesley Dority of Lake Brownwood; two grandchildren, Doyle Dority and wife Liz, of Princeton, Texas, Denise Dority of Lake Brownwood; four great-grandchildren, Derek Dority and wife Candace, of Farmersville, Texas, Dillon Dority, Megan Dority and Sean Dority all of Princeton, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.  Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Sarah Lu Gardner, 92

Sarah Lu Stevens Gardner, age 92, passed away in Coleman on Friday, April 7, 2006 after a lengthy illness.  Funeral service was held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeffrey Miller officiating and assisted by Chaplain Roger Roenfeldt.  Interment was in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Sarah Lu was born in Coleman on April 22, 1913 to William James and Sarah Lenora Miller Stevens.  She was the youngest of six children - two brothers, William James Stevens and Joe Stevens and three sisters, Mary Alice Stevens Stringer, Frances Stevens Dibrell and Salome Stevens McHorse.  Sarah Lu graduated from Coleman High School and Texas Tech University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1935.  She taught school in May, Winters, and Coleman and then attended business college in Dallas.  On returning to Coleman, she worked for the National Youth Administration and for Anzac Oil Corporation.  On June 25, 1942, Sarah Lu married Jim R. Gardner of Winters. Their only son, William Jackson Gardner, was born while they were in St. Louis, where Jim served in the U.S. Army. They moved back to Coleman where she and Jim enjoyed working together with two of her sisters and her brother-in-law in the family-owned business, J. E. Stevens Co. Sarah Lu served as business manager there for many years.

During her lifetime, she was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church. She served as a teacher of children, was a member of the Bettie Morris Circle, Aldersgate Guild and United Methodist Women, serving one term as president.  She was a longtime member of the Dunson Sunday School Class.  She was also active in D.A.R. and was honored in 1992 as Coleman County Citizen of the Year.  Sarah Lu loved Coleman and her Coleman County heritage.  She participated in the county history projects, authoring the Stevens family history for the Coleman County volumes.  She also was very active in the church history project as she recorded the history of the First Methodist Church in Coleman.  Sarah Lu was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim; her two brothers and her two sisters, Mary Alice and Fran.

Surviving family members are her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Susan Gardner of Longview; three grandchildren, Laura Kathryn Gardner of Austin, Emily Stevens Gardner of Washington, D. C., James Scott Gardner of Houston; her sister, Salome McHorse of Coleman; three nephews, Dr. Tom McHorse of Austin, John G. Gardner of Houston, Robert Gardner of Tyler; three nieces, Gail McHorse of New Orleans, Louisiana, Lynn McLellan of Temple, Ginger Gardner Dudley of Comanche; eight great-nephews, Joseph Johnson of Coleman, Edward McHorse and Kevin McHorse both of Austin, Paul McHorse of The Woodlands, William Hester of New Orleans, Louisiana, Gardner Dudley and John Gardner both of Houston, Ryan Gardner of Columbus, South Carolina; seven great-nieces, Judy Burris of Huntsville, Jane Greer of Marble Falls, Joan Ethridge of Kermit, Amanda Hester of New Orleans, Louisiana, Sarah Hester of Atlanta, Georgia, Jennifer Gardner Hutton of Potomac Falls, Virginia, Melinda Weedon of Mineola and many great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

James D. Smith, 67, of Hewitt passed away at a Temple hospital on Friday, April 7, 2006.  Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 11 at Lakeshore Church of Christ with Ernie Christie officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.  Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 10 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.

James D. was born to Dee and Polly Glenn Bourrough Smith in Coleman, Texas on Dec. 12, 1938.  He married Linda Morie Caruthers on July 7, 1961. James graduated in 1955 from Coleman High School and from Texas A&M in 1960, eighth in his class, with a degree in civil engineering.  He was an elder at Lakeshore Church of Christ and served prior to that as a deacon at Crestview Church of Christ.  James was a licensed Texas Civil Professional Engineer.

Preceding James in death were his parents, Dee and Polly Smith; and brother, Don L. Smith. 

Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith of Hewitt; sons, Ronald Smith of Waco and Jaret Smith of Hewitt; daughter, Melinda Smith of The Woodlands; sister-in-law, Mary Emma Smith of Brownwood; nephew, Kent Smith of Ft. Worth; niece, Adelia Rice and husband, Mike of Dallas; and cousin, Carla Justice and husband, Pat of Coleman. 

Pallbearers will be Dean Conner, John Garland, Doyle Helms, James King, Tim Loftin and Jim Skrabanek.

R. T. Caperton, 87

R. T. Caperton, age 87, longtime resident of Bronte, Texas and former Coleman resident and businessman, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006 at his home.  Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Bronte.  Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery, under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

R. T. was born to E. L. (Emmit) and Lillian Coleman Caperton on March 30, 1919 near Cedar Mountain, three miles southwest of Bronte.  The family moved to Clyde for a short time, but returned to Bronte where R. T. was a graduate of Bronte High School.  He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Animal Husbandry and Agriculture.  Due to the looming threat of war, the A&M class of 1941 was the first and only class to be commissioned into the military service prior to receiving diplomas.  He went immediately into the service and was stationed with the Remount Depot at Fort Reno, Oklahoma until he went overseas.  On June 18, 1942, he married Zelma Pauline Slaughter of Robert Lee.  She preceded him in death in 2001 after 59 years of marriage.  R. T. was in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations in charge of 250 to 500 men issuing pack animals to the Allied Forces, receiving a commendation for delivering animals into the battle zone.  He made numerous reconnaissance missions throughout the area and flew over 1,000 miles into southeast China, crossing the Himalayas over 25 times.  Although he traveled throughout the area, including India and Pakistan, he spent most of his time in the jungles of Burma supporting the United States and British effort to complete the Lido Road from Casy Ming, China to Lasio, Burma.  The road, which was completed before he left, was crucial as an alternate to the Burma Road being held by the Japanese.  R. T. was discharged from active service in 1946 as a Major of the U.S. Army.  He remained in the reserves for another ten years.  Following the war, R.T. was a Chevrolet and Cadillac dealer in Bronte, Sterling City and Coleman, Texas.  In later years, he was Area Manager for National Farm Life Insurance Co. of Fort Worth.  He was a lifetime member of Lions International, a charter member of the Bronte Lions Club and was awarded a Certificate of Membership for 50 years of service in 1997.  He was an active member of the American Legion, Association of Former A&M Students and the West Texas A&M Club.  R. T. served as Mayor of Bronte, on the City Councils of Bronte and Sterling City, as a member of the Bronte School Board and as President of the Coleman Chamber of Commerce.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bronte and served in many areas of church leadership.  He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Savannah Ruth Belcher; and two brothers, Emmit Durwood and Leslie Dean Caperton.

Survivors include his son, Randy Caperton of College Station, Texas; two daughters, Jacque Caperton Miller of Bronte, Texas and Kim Caperton of Austin, Texas; one grandson, Chance Henderson of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Matthew Caperton of San Angelo, Texas and his sister-in-law, Maxine Percifull of Bronte, Texas.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Bronte Memorial Fund or to Hospice of San Angelo.

Ila Drake, 93

Ila Drake, age 93 of Santa Anna passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 7:20 p.m. at the Bangs Nursing Home.  Services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Hess and Rev. Raymond Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Ila was born February 4, 1913 in Choudrant, Louisiana to the late Robert Delmar and Eula Pearl Norris Robinson.  She was raised in Coleman graduating from Coleman High School in 1932.  On April 26, 1934 Ila married Elzie B. (Buck) Drake in Coleman and they celebrated fifty-four years of marriage.  Buck preceded her in death in 1980.  Ila was a resident of Santa Anna where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include four daughters, Delma Blair of Santa Anna, Texas; Maureen Watson of Santa Anna, Texas; Sherry Burleson of of Clyde, Texas; and Patsy Barron of Santa Anna, Texas; three sons, Melton Drake of Odessa, Texas; David Drake of Brownwood, Texas; Robbie Drake of Brazoria, Texas; a nephew, Scott Robinson of Louisville, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren.

Ila was preceded in death by her brother Johnny Robinson.

Alfred "Al" Haithcock, 80

Alfred "Al" Riley Haithcock, registered pharmacist who owned and operated Beverly Hill Pharmacy in Dallas, died Saturday morning April 15, 2006 at age 80 following a long battle with Alzheimer¹s disease.  Services were held Monday, April 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Anna with Rev. Kathy Monroe officiating.  Interment followed at the Stewardson Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Dale Lee, Gene Lee, Jr., Philip Plocheck, Ward Stewardson and Honorary Pallbearer was Jim Gilley.  Arrangements were under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Al was born in Tahoka, Texas on October 24, 1925 to the late James Monroe and Ada Marion Rives Haithcock.  He was reared in Lawton, Oklahoma and graduated from Southwestern Pharmaceutical College in 1954 in Oklahoma.  Al was a naval veteran of World War II and a registered pharmacist for 50 years, retiring in 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen and husband Ward Stewardson of Crosby, Texas; three grandchildren, Hillary Plocheck, Paige and Sydney Stewardson; a sister, Zayne Logan; step-daughter, Kathy Windham; two step-sons, Gene Lee, Jr. and Dale Lee; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Al was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Haithcock.  The family requests memorials be made to the American Alzheimer¹s Foundation.

Charlie Mae Boatright, 63

Charlie Mae Boatright, age 63, of Coleman died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Wilson officiating.  Burial will followed in the Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Charlie Mae Davis on December 11, 1942, a daughter of Charles Thomas Herman Davis and Rosie Inez Moore Davis.  She grew up and attended school in Coleman.  She was married to Carroll Wayne Boatright in 1962 and they divorced after several years of marriage.  Charlie Mae graduated from Beauty College and was a beautician for 23 years, owning her own shop for 16 years.  She worked at Coleman County Medical Center for five years.  She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.  She enjoyed sewing, her grandkids and her great-grandkids.

Survivors include three children, Deanna Lee Boatright, Charley Wayne Boatright and Peggy Joyce Deaver all of Coleman; six grandchildren, Michael Anson Malaer, Thomas Glen Malaer, Tara Tenelle Boatright, Weston Lee Boatright, Kendra Gail Boatright, Charley Wayne Boatright, Jr.; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Perry Lynn Davis of Brownwood and Terry Davis of Coleman; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Rosa Lee Payne, her mother, Inez Davis and her father, Herman Davis.

Glenda Vaughn, 48

Glenda Vaughn, age 48, of Coleman, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. today (Tuesday, April 25) at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Smart officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Glenda Sue Williams on December 23, 1957 in Coleman, Texas, the daughter of Sue Angel Williams and the late Junior Williams.  She grew up in Coleman and attended school here and later graduated from Food Service School.  On May 12, 1984 she married Jeff Vaughn in Arlington, Texas.  Glenda lived in Houston and Arlington before returning to Coleman in 1993.  Prior to becoming ill, she was the Food Service Supervisor for the Novice I.S.D. for nine years.  She served as the Cheerleader Sponsor for the Novice Cheerleaders.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff Vaughn of Coleman; one daughter, Heather Beverley of Abilene; two sons, J. W. Vaughn of Coleman and Justin Vaughn of Early; her mother, Sue Williams of Coleman; two grandchildren, Gage Crook and Kaeden Beverley; two brothers, Wayne Williams and wife Margaret of Pottsboro and Tony Williams and wife Renee of Coleman; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and one nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Junior Williams, an infant brother, Gary Lynn Williams; grandparents, Hilva and Marvin Angel and Margaret and Ernest Williams.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Norva Christopher, 58

Norva Lynn Christopher, 58, of Cisco and formerly of Fort Worth passed away at Eastland Memorial Hospital Sunday, April 23, 2006.  Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in Oakwood Cemetery, under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Mrs. Christopher was born in Coleman, Texas on March 25, 1948 to Morris and Woodie Louise (Tabor) Tolleson.  She married Billy Jack Christopher on November 6, 1978 in Weatherford, Texas.  She lived in Fort Worth for 50 years and moved to Cisco in 1999.  While in Fort Worth, she worked as a Nurses Aide at Peter Smith Hospital and also at a nursing home.  She was a member of Burch Hill Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Jack Christopher of Cisco; two sons, Mark Hisey of Arlington and Jason Hisey and wife Tammi of Mansfield; three stepsons, Bobby Christopher and wife Cathy of Cisco, Mark Christopher and wife Candy of Joshua and Mike Christopher of Fort Worth; step-daughter, Kellye Mellen and husband Michael of Alvarado; sisters, Sue Martindale of Baird and Glenda Webb of Weatherford; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

J. W. (Mac) McClellan

J. W. (Mac) McClellan, a resident of Lovelock, Nevada for more than 30 years, died at his home on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Services were held at the New Life Fellowship Church on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.  Burial followed at the Big Meadow Cemetery.

Mac was born on February 10, 1930 in Gouldbusk, Texas where he lived for many years.  He attended the Mozelle School system until the age of 17 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was promoted to the rank of Airman First Class.  While in the Air Force, Mac became an aircraft electrician.  Upon discharging from the service, Mac obtained a position as a civilian at White Sands, New Mexico where he worked on the flight line.  After leaving White Sands, he went to work for Lear Seigler where he served two tours in Vietnam.  Mac and his family moved to Lovelock in 1973 where he was employed in the family mining business.  He also worked for Lacana Mining, Western States Mining and finally retired from Eagle Picher Minerals.

Mac is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marian; daughter, Megan McClellan; and grandsons Aaron and Jay.  There are also children in Tennessee and Texas, together with numerous nieces and nephews in Texas and Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents William E. (W. E.) and Ethel (Slate) McClellan, his brothers Fred McClellan and Edward McClellan, sister Dixie (McClellan) White, brother Robert McClellan, and sister Mary (McClellan) Freeman.

Frances Corene Smith, 76

Brady: Graveside services for Frances Corene Smith, 76, of Fredericksburg were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26th at Eden Cemetery, Eden, Texas with Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating.  Services were under the direction of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.

She was born January 3, 1930, in Gouldbusk, to Milton J. and Cora (Ellison) Smith.  She was married to Laymond Taylor on September 7, 1946 in Abilene and was married to Edgar A. Smith on September 10, 1990 in Fredericksburg.

Survivors include two nieces, Pauline Scott of Santa Anna and Juanita Wood of Coleman; and several great-nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton J. and Cora Smith; her spouses; Laymond Taylor and Edgar A. Smith; and one sister.

Charles Kirkpatrick, 59

Charles Kirkpatrick, age 59, of Coleman, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at his residence.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow in the Trickham Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Charles was born July 9, 1946 in Coleman, Texas, a son of the late Alburn Clifford Kirkpatrick and Bertha Horton Kirkpatrick.  He lived in many places in Texas and returned to Coleman in 1964.  Charles served in the United States Army in Viet Nam for one year and was also stationed in Germany.  On March 22, 1969 he married Barbara Wells in Coleman.  He was a mechanic for 10 years and then worked for Bandera Drilling as a Tool Pusher for 22 years.  He was a member of North Coleman Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Kirkpatrick of Coleman; two daughters, Dr. Jennifer Kirkpatrick of Durham, N. C. and Amber Kirkpatrick of Gainesville; three brothers, Bobby Kirkpatrick of Coleman, Billy Kirkpatrick of Roscoe and Danny Kirkpatrick of Sand Springs; two sisters, Evelyn Berry of Katy and Gerry Tabor of Kennedale; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

John C. (Sam) Rozzell, 90

John C. (Sam) Rozzell, 90, of Abilene, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Hendrick Medical Center.  Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be from 12:00 noon till 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rozzell was born August 30, 1915 in Belton, the son of Franklin Rozzell and Francis Hamilton Rozzell.  He grew up and attended school in Coleman.  He married Ann Hayes in 1941 in Coleman.  He lived in California from 1943 to 1985, where we worked as a police officer.  He also lived in Washington, before moving to Abilene in 1999.  He worked part-time at Wendy’s, played dominoes and pool at the Senior Center and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Rozzell of Abilene; one daughter, Lou Ann Adams of Abilene; two sons, Robert Rozzell of Abilene, Johnny Lee Rozzell of Kansas City, Missouri, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Esther Mitchell, 92

Esther Mitchell, age 92 of Coleman, Texas passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 1:15AM at the Coleman County Medical Center.  Services were Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Elmo with Rev. Jimmy Sheppard officiating.  Interment followed at the Highland Memorial Garden in Terrell under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Esther was born October 4, 1913 in Coryell County, Texas to the late Lawrence Preston and Florence Irene Cayce Warren.  She was raised in Gatesville where she graduated from the Gatesville Schools, later graduating from Business College.  On January 8, 1966 Esther married Dewey Magill Mitchell in Terrell, Texas and they celebrated thirty-eight years of marriage.  Dewey preceded her in death in 2004.  Esther has been a resident of Coleman County since 1981 moving here from Gilmer, Texas.  She was a member of the Burkett Baptist Church, DAR, and United Daughters of the Confederacy.  Esther worked as a social worker with the Terrell State Hospital and then in real estate and insurance.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Foreman of Coppell, Texas; Wanda Robertson of Elmo, Texas; and Janice Flanagan of Bastrop, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Esther was preceded in death by son, Joe Pedigo in 1995.  Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Wilda Marie Moody Allen, 90

Wilda Marie Moody Allen, age 90, of Austin, formerly of Coleman, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2006.  Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2006 at University Christian Church in Austin.  Interment will be today (Tuesday) at 1:00 p.m. at Coleman City Cemetery.  Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home of Austin is in charge of arrangements.

John Richard "Ricky" West, 52

John Richard "Ricky" West died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at his home in Louisville, Texas.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Lakeland Baptist Church in Louisville, Texas.

Ricky was born July 11, 1953 to John W. West and LaVerne Titsworth West in Coleman, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann West; two sons, Brandon West and Shane West; and three grandchildren.  He is also survived by his dad, Johnny West of Dallas; one sister, Rhonda Sue Jennings of Louisiana; and one uncle, James West of Coleman.  Other area relatives include Larry Titsworth and Marvin Titsworth of Coleman; Cleo Cude of Abilene; Bill Rae of Odessa; and Joyce Moore of Sweetwater.

He was predeceased by his mother, LaVerne Cantrell; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Titsworth of Valera and Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Price of Coleman.
