Wendell R. Burson, 69, of Brownwood, Texas died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at  Greenleaf Cemetery.

Wendell Burson was born on September 4, 1936 in Santa Anna, Texas, the son of Paul Elmer and Bessie Mami Cothran Burson.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.  He married Edna Burson.  She preceded him in death.  He was a carpenter and a Baptist and had lived all of his life in Brownwood.

Survivors include brothers, Hoyt Mills of Brownwood, Tommy Mills of San Angelo, Jerry Mills of Brownwood and Tyson Mills of Vermont; sisters, Sally Sparks of Las Vegas and Arlene Burkett of California; and best friend, Wanda Bell of Brownwood.

Myrtle Jo Smith, age 86 of Coleman, passed away March 2, 2006 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be Saturday March 4th at 4 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Chapel with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating and burial to follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Daughter of the late Frank and Nettie Irene Ramsey Trull, she was born February 28, 1920 in Grayson County, Texas.  On March 7, 1935 she married Cecil Smith in Coleman.  He preceded her in death in 1990.  Myrtle Jo lived in Coleman County most of her life.  She was a house parent for several children’s homes and a member of the Concho Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters; Jo Chapman of Coleman and Ann and John Kinsey, Sr. of Venus, Texas; two sons, James and Donna Smith of Lake Brownwood, and Jerry and Sandra Smith of Schulenburg, Texas; one sister, Eva McCarrell of Brownwood; and one brother, Donald Trull of Brady.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Paul and Angela Whittington of Novice, Cynthia and Ted Merryman of Clyde, Sonya Alston of Hewitt, Michael and Synda Smith of Coleman, Tammy Blair of Midlothian, John and Jenny Kinsey, Jr. of Wills Point, Lance and Rhonda Smith and Samantha and David Stackhouse all of Schulenburg; fourteen great-grandchildren, Brandon and James Whittington of Novice, Heather and Jon Abel of Abilene, Jarad Hale and Rode Merryman both of Clyde, Zachary Alston of Hewitt, Kody and Lindsay Blair and Kinsey and Kasey Blair both of Midlothian, Amanda and Jessica Kinsey both of Italy, Colton and Cecil Kinsey, and Mason Kinsey all of Wills Point, Caleb, Brynna and Aden Stackhouse, and Alissa and Kenley Smith all of Schulenburg; and four great-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Shane Abel both of Abilene, Landon Kinsey of Wills Point, and Kaylynn Blair of Midlothian.

Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends on Friday the 3rd from 6 to7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Irvin Davis, 87, of Coleman, died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating and assisted by Rev. Jerry Shields.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Glen Cove Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Irvin Davis was born December 21, 1918 in Oplin, Texas, a son of Thomas Henry Davis and Ida Pentecost Davis.  He grew up in Concho County and graduated from Paint Rock High School.  He also attended Abilene Christian College (now University).  During World War II he served in the Army Air Corp with the 6th Bomb Wing.  He married Prue Williams on August 12, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He lived in Coleman County until 1950, moving to Taylor County from 1954-1973.  He returned to Coleman County in 1973.  He was a rancher and a farmer.  While living in Taylor County he served as a Director of the Farm Bureau for eight years, on the Agriculture Extension Service Committee for four years, was a 4H leader for 14 years as well as being a member of several riding clubs. He was a member of the Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and the First Baptist Church in Coleman.

Survivors include his wife, Prue Davis of Coleman; one son, Dr. Del Davis and wife Cindy of Winters; one daughter, Myrtie Beaver and husband Scott of Glen Cove; four grandchildren, Tim Davis and wife Amber of Petrolia, Texas, Dr. April Davis-Hernandez and husband Marin of Lubbock, Amy Beaver-Gonzalez and husband Silvio of Bogota, Columbia, Gina Aplin and husband Dustin of Glen Cove; seven great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Cherokee and Dakota Hernandez, Jordan, Kobe and Drew Davis, and Jack Gonzalez; one brother, Rathel Davis of Abilene; one sister, Mae Willis and husband Gene of Abilene; brother-in-law, Son Williams and wife Billie of Coleman; sister-in-law, Tooter Stephenson and husband Lonnie of Brownwood; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.  Family visitation was held on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Effie Dell Parker, 87, of San Angelo, died on Saturday, March 4, 2006.  She was residing at the Regency House Nursing Home where she had hospice care.  Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at the Sierra Vista United  Methodist Church in San Angelo.  Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Texas.  The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring.

Effie Dell (or Dell, as she was known to her friends) was born September 6, 1918 in Big Spring in her Grandparent's home.  Her father was William Joe Williams and her mother was Zula (Lovelace) Williams.  She had one brother, Wofford Williams, who is deceased.  Dell attended school in Lucian Wells, Lomax, Big Spring and graduated from Garden City in 1936.  She married Weldon Parker on June 20, 1937 at the First Methodist Church parsonage in Big Spring.  Weldon preceded her in death on July 2, 1987.  She worked for the Garden City Post Office as a Postal Clerk for 20 years.  After Weldon retired as County Judge, they moved to Robert Lee to be close to the lake and their passion for fishing.  Dell moved to San Angelo in 1991 where she bought a home at Rio Concho West.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Shields and husband, Bill, of Novice; four sons, Truman Parker and wife, Betty, of Fort Worth, Doug Parker and wife, Donna, of Taylor, Charles Parker and wife, Patricia, of Cedar Creek, and Jerry Parker of Greenwood, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Jason Parker, Melissa O'Neal, Dawn Pollack, Mike Shields, Todd Shields and Rowdy Parker; and two great-grandchildren, Mason Shields and Pierce Shields.

Mrs. Ruth Williams, 86 years of age, passed away in Coleman Sunday, March 5, 2006.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Schoneman officiating.  Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Ruth was born March 26, 1919 in Ellis County, Texas, the daughter of the late Earon and Maudie Akins Monroe.  She married Mr. Alton Sealy Williams in Coleman on February 22, 1940.  She was a lifetime resident of Coleman County, a graduate of Draughts Business College of Abilene, and was a sales lady at Perry Bros. Department Store for more than 15 years.  She was  a devoted member of the Central Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Sealy Williams of Coleman; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jeff Gray of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alton (Butch) and Earlene Williams of Coleman and Wayne and Virginia Williams of San Angelo, Texas; six sisters, Mildred Barnes, Veoma Fisher, Patsy Jackson, Billie Rouillard and Patricia Jones all of Coleman, and Joyce Livingston of Abilene; three brothers, Weldon Monroe and L. J. Monroe both of Talpa, Texas and Ardell Monroe of Valera, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two  great - great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons and two granddaughters, one brother and one sister.  Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Grandchildren will be pallbearers.

Leta Mae (Keller) King was born in Morgan Mill, Texas, March 31, 1921, and died in Granbury, Texas March 5, 2006.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury, Texas today (Tuesday, March 7).  Memorial services will be at First Baptist Church of Irving, 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, with internment to follow at Restland, Dallas at 3 p.m.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MTM Youth Club of Granbury, 700 MTM Court, Granbury, Texas 76048.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Conley O. King, parents, Daniel and Sallie Keller, sisters Sibyl Hammond and Patsy Jackson, brothers Alton Keller and Bruce Keller.

She is survived by son, Bob King of Granbury, daughter Tina Prewitt of Lindale, grandchildren Jimmy King of Edmond, Oklahoma, Diane Derebery of Hallsville, Denise New of Forney, Donna Cornell of Colleyville, and Mark King of Houston, sisters Lona McCarty and Nell Carter of San Antonio, Lucy Addison of Lipan, Judy Haralson of Lubbock, Ann Briggs of Grand Saline, and brother Burl Keller of Coleman.  She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Garrett and Graham King, Taylor and Austin, Bryan, Carter Derebery, Samuel and Rachel New, Sarah and Nathan Cornell, and 25 nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.

Mrs. King was active with the Dallas Board of Realtors for over 30 years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Irving. She was also active with Soroptimist International and the Camping Squares of East Texas. 

Richard (Ricky) Moore, age 60 of Abilene, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Hendrick Medical Center.  Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Dr. Jerry Mitchell officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ricky was born January 4, 1946 in Abilene, the son of Margaret Pitts Moore and the late Willis Moore.  He grew up and attended school in Abilene.  He lived in Abilene all of his life, enjoyed bowling, was a member of the C.B. Club in Abilene, Knights of Pythians and attended University Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Margaret Moore of Abilene; a sister, Beth Hendler of Seattle, Washington; an uncle and aunt, Richard and Billie Pitts of Lampasas; a nephew, Austin Hendler of Seattle, Washington and numerous cousins.

Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Willis Moore on April 6, 2005 and his grandparents.

J. P. "Bub" Miller, Jr., 81, of Coleman, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 10 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Leonard Radde officiating and assisted by Dr. Jeffrey Miller.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

J. P. "Bub" Miller, Jr. was born July 28, 1924 at the Rafter 3 Ranch in Coleman County, Texas, the son of J. P. "Jake" Miller, Sr. and Mary J. Jameson Miller.  He grew up on the ranch in Coleman County and graduated from Coleman High School in 1941.  He attended Texas A & M University.  During World War II, he was a United States Navy Pilot where he flew missions in the Pacific from the USS Bon Homme Richard.  He was one of the pilots in the formation flying over while the Peace Treaty ending World War II was signed.  On May 15, 1946 he married Patsy Jameson in Fort Worth.  They moved to South Dakota in 1947 where he owned and operated Miller Ranch until 1972.  They moved back to Coleman in 1972 so he could manage the Rafter 3 following the death of his father.  He continued ranching in Coleman County until the time of his death.  Bub was a member of the South Dakota Stock Growers Association, Texas Cattle Raisers Association and National Cattle Raisers Association.  In October 2005 he was a recipient of the Foy Proctor Memorial Cowman’s Award of Honor.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coleman.

Family visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Choir Fund, P. O. Box 852, 500 W. Live Oak Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Funeral services for Billie McBee, 83, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, formerly of Brownwood were 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Brownwood with Dr. Rick Davis officiating.  Interment followed in the Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.  Mrs. McBee passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at Stillwater, Oklahoma.

She was born on August 22, 1922 in Coleman County to H. T. and Lilly Porter. Billie was a bookkeeper and was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Brownwood.

Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Karen McBee of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Lydia McBee-Reed of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and several nieces.   She was preceded in death by her parents, H. T. and Lilly Porter; and brothers J. T. and Burnet Porter and by her husband, Clois "Red" McBee.

Betty Worsham, age 69 of Coleman, passed away March 8, 2006 at Methodist Dallas Hospital.  Memorial services will be Sunday at 3 pm at the Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rick McClure officiating.

Daughter of the late Jim and Elma Jones Fussell, she was born March 7, 1937 in Georgiana, Alabama.  On November 14, 1955 she married Herman Daniel Worsham in Mobile, Alabama.  Betty was a graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama.  She attended Wharton County Junior College in Wharton, Texas for a couple of years and studied computer programming.  She was an office manager for H&R Block and taught school for them for 7 years.  She worked as an engineering assistant at the South Texas Nuclear Power Plant.  A Coleman County resident since 1996, she was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Brownwood.

Betty is survived by her husband Herman of Brownwood; one daughter, Katrina and husband Bill Nowell of Blessing, Texas; three sons, Curtis Worsham of Oregon, Michael and wife Brenda Worsham of Coleman, and David and wife Pam Worsham of The Colony, Texas; one sister, Jamie and husband Albert Darring; and three brothers, Arthur (Mac) Glenn and wife Gail Fussell, Ben Franklin and wife Millie Fussell, and Earl Elmo and wife Ann Fussell.  Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Infant McCarley Grace Castillo, 7 months old, of Opelika, Alabama, left this earth on March 8, 2006 to be with our heavenly father.

She was born on August 7, 2005 at University Alabama Hospital, weighing a miraculously 1 lb. 7 ozs.  McCarley fought every day of her precious life, taking her own first and last breath in her father¹s arms.

She is survived by her parents, Sgt. Jacob and Christi Castillo of Killen, Alabama; grandparents Ramon and Dianna Castillo of Killen, Alabama, formerly of Santa Anna, Texas; and Charlotte of Killen, Alabama.  Great-grandparents include Ramon and Amparo Castillo of Santa Anna and John and Charlotte Murdock of Killen, Alabama.  She is also survived by many great uncles, great aunts and cousins of Santa Anna.

Gladys Greer, age 75 of Coleman, passed away March 9, 2006 at the Coleman Healthcare Center.  Walker Funeral Home of Coleman is in charge of arrangements.  There will be no formal funeral service.

Daughter of the late Henry Dewayne and Mellie Smith, she was born December 1, 1930 in Grove,Texas.  A Coleman County resident for the past eleven years, she was a member of the Baptist church and a retired waitress.  Gladys is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Barnett of Temple; two sons Leonard, Jr. and Scott Greer both of Coleman; two sisters, Maxine Little and Clara Kive both of Temple; and one brother, James Smith.  Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Clemmie Lee Turner, 88 of Lake Coleman, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  No services are planned.  Her body was cremated, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Clemmie Lee Norris on September 9, 1917, the daughter of Allen Mack Norris and Minnie Eathel Guy Norris in Talpa.  She graduated from Valera High School.  Clemmie married Clifford Ellison Turner in Coleman on November 3, 1935.  She worked for Jinright Manufacturing for many years before moving to Carson City Nevada in 1955.  She later moved to Silver Springs, Nevada, where she and Clifford built a home on Lake Lahonton in 1969.  Clifford was a Predatory Control Officer for the State of Nevada for 25 years.  Clemmie worked for Mercury Cleaners in Carson City.  She loved to sew, oil paint, fish and hunt.  She returned to Coleman County to live at Lake Coleman in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and William Boyd Turner of Lake Coleman; two sisters, Billy Joe Puckett and husband Paul of Coleman, Bertha Crenshaw Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughter, Dana M. Miller and husband Kendal of St. George, Utah; grandson, Dr. Darren L. Mitchell, D. C. of Carson City, Nevada; four great-granddaughters, Sierra Markay Miller, Mikayla Jean Miller, Devon Lara Mitchell and Jayde Elise Mitchell; brother-in-law, Glenn Turner of Elgin; sister-in-law, Ethel Turner of Buda, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Clemmie was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford in 1997; son Ronnie D. Turner in 1980; her parents; sister Bernice and husband J. T. Galloway; brother Coy and wife, Sis Norris; brothers-in-law, Ray Turner, Grady and wife Sybil Turner; Clyde Crenshaw; sisters-in-law, Una Fay and husband H. J. Huffman and Edna Ruth Turner.

Barbara Ann Bradham Sharp of Tuscola passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Tuscola United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jack Stephens and Michael Berry officiating.  A private burial will be held at the family plot in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman, Texas.  The casket will be closed at the start of the service and not be reopened.

Barbara was born on February 23, 1931 in Brenham, Texas.  She was the daughter of the late O. F. and Bessie Dale Bradham.  On August 22, 1953 she married Leonard A. Sharp in Novice, Texas.  Barbara was a graduate of White Oak High School and attended Kilgore Junior College.  Before retiring in June of 1990, she was a secretary for the Jim Ned CISD and worked several years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.  Barbara was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Left behind to cherish her memory of fifty two years is her husband Leonard of Tuscola; one daughter, Katri Elaine and husband Joseph Chmielewski; one son, Larry Alan and wife Suzann Sharp; grandchildren Tiffany Chmielewski, Michael Chmielewski, Monica Sharp, Karli Sharp, and Jared Sharp; and step-grandchildren, Joseph and wife Charity Chmielewski, and Taji Sperber; and one sister, Rosiland Fuller of Flower Branch, Georgia and Paul Bradham of Longview, Texas.  Also surviving is a special sister-in-law, Ellen Bradham of Portland, Texas, as well as various nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Sunday March 12th from 2-4 pm at the family residence, 609 Tomahawk Trail in Tuscola.

Virgil Haak, age 83,  of Santa Anna, Texas passed away Friday, March 10, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. at Coleman County Medical Center.  Services were Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Marvin Hale officiating.  Interment followed with Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna in charge of arrangements.

 Virgil was born in Wichita, Kansas on April 20, 1922 to the late Jesse and Edith Geneva Smith Haak.  He was reared in Kansas where he attended school.  In 1946, Virgil married Alta Trout in Newton, Kansas.  Virgil was a member of the Nazarene Church and the Masonic Lodge.  He served as a policeman in Clearwater, Kansas and for many years was a machinist with National Cash Register until his retirement.  Virgil had been a resident of Santa Anna since 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Haak of Dallas, Texas; three sons, Vernon Haak, Sr. of Santa Anna, Texas, Kenny Haak of Andover, Kansas  and Gary Haak of Lawrence, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Virgil was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby, Gene and Charlie Haak.

Pallbearers were Vernon Haak, Jr., Kenneth Haak, Garrett Haak, Levi Haak, Dan Dobbins, Dale Sorrells.

Bobby Dale Smith, age 70, of Kilgore, passed away March 11, 2006 in Abilene Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. March 15th at Walker Funeral Chapel with Mr. Sam Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Son of the late Ivey Lee and Irene Lewis Smith, he was born May 2, 1935 in Kilgore, Texas.  He married the late Miss Charlotte M. Cox on July 25, 1957 in Kermit, Texas.  She preceded him in death in 1999.  Bobby had lived in Kermit for eight years from 1957 to 1965.  In 1965 Bobby moved to Sundown, Texas where he lived for 13 years.  Then he returned to Kermit until 1995 when he moved to Coleman.  He was employed 34 years by Bass Enterprises Production Company retiring from that company in 1991.  Bobby worked for Arch Petroleum from November 1991 to 1995.  He worked five more years for HL Riche Oil and Gas before he retired.

He is survived by; one daughter, Sheryl Lynn Smith Wright of Kermit; three sons, Phillip Wayne Smith of Midland, Stephen DeWayne Smith of Grapevine, and Robert Dale Smith of Bowie; two sisters, Dorothy Rackley of Novice, and Sharon Kay Richey of Ozark, Arkansas Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; Justine K. Smith, Jessica D. Smith, Stacy D. Smith, Derek S. Smith, Katie A. Wright, Jenna E. Wright, Jerrod R. Smith , Brandi L. Mayes, Nikkie L. Singleton, Dustin L. Henderson , Kassie D. Wright, and Kristin Wright; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Gage Singleton, Jay Leigh Brianne Ditto, Janeen Michael Singleton, and Brandy Dawn Carter.

Mrs. Mary Lou Harris Gaskell, 82, longtime resident of Santa Fe, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama.  Funeral services were conducted at 12 noon, Friday, March 17, 2006 at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee with Pastors Cecilia Hasting and Larry Hasting officiating.  Burial followed in Santa Fe Cemetery.

The Burkett, Texas native was the daughter of the late J. B. Harris and Ione Adams Harris.  She was the former wife of the late William B. "Billy" Gaskell.  Mrs. Gaskell received her nurses training through Maury County Hospital where she was employed as EKG Director and Head of the Coronary Care Unit.  She was a member of Acts Christian Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Gaskell (Danny) Potts of Santa Fe; two sons, Charlie (Rebecca) Ferguson and Kenneth Ferguson both of Killen, Alabama; two brothers, Leonard (Retha) Harris and John Harris both of Coleman, Texas; eight grandchildren, Scott Rivers Ferguson, Jamie Lynn Ferguson, Gretta Mae Ferguson, Benton Thomas Ferguson, Angela Renee Ferguson McClanahan, Chad Rivers Ferguson, Sara Elizabeth Gaskell and Julie Estes Young; and three great-grandchildren, Carter McClanahan, Lucas McClanahan and Westin McClanahan.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Thomas Gaskell; and a brother, Billy Harris.

Lora Elkins Still, 85, a longtime resident of Abilene, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at an Abilene medical center.   Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Rev. Mike Jones officiating.  The graveside service will follow at 5 p.m. in Coleman Cemetery in Coleman.  Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A native of Lawn, Texas, Lora was born the daughter of Golda Ann (Clevenger) and Roy Monroe Elkins on December 15, 1920.  She was a homemaker, and had been a resident of Abilene since 1948.  A member of First Church of God and Women of the Church of God, Mrs. Still attended Harvest Baptist Church in Abilene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David W. Still, Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy M. Elkins; brothers, Jesse M. Elkins and Leslie Elkins; and a granddaughter, Simone Johnston.

Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Ann Perkins and husband, David, of Odessa, and Diane Hopkins and Sue McIntire both of Abilene; a brother, Retus Elkins of Abilene; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and four nephews.

Sue Field, age 72, of Stamford, Texas and formerly of Coleman, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2006.  Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel in Stamford, Texas with Rev. James Brigham officiating.  Interment followed at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Brown County, Texas.

Sue was born September 18, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland where she grew up and met and married D. C. Field on June 26, 1963 in Baltimore.  They moved to Coleman where they lived for several years before moving to Stamford in 1971.  Sue was a legal secretary, working for the Hollabaugh Law Office in Stamford for over 20 years, retiring in 1996.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Stamford and a past member of the Business and Professional Women¹s Club in Stamford.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Clu Burnham of Hawley; two grandchildren, Mollie and Jonathan Burnham, both of Hawley; and one sister, Margie Palmer of Baltimore, Maryland.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister.

Treva Barnett, 53 of Stephenville and former Coleman resident, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth.  Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion, with Rev. Al Stanley officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman.  Family visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born Treva Ann Sartain on November 5, 1952 in Coleman, the daughter of Geneva Brooks Sartain Smith and the late Robert Lee Sartain.  She grew up and attended school in Coleman.  She married Danny Barnett on December 28, 1973 in Coleman.  Treva worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse with various home health agencies and nursing homes.  She moved to Stephenville eight years ago and was a member of the Evangel Temple Assembly of God.

Survivors include her husband, Danny Barnett of Stephenville; three sons, Michael Lee Barnett, Danny G. Barnett and Caleb Barnett, all of Stephenville; her mother, Geneva Smith of Bangs; brothers and sisters, Martha Wilkins of Oklahoma, Lynn Sartain of Coleman, Deborah Green and Tommy Sartain, both of Bangs and Leah Barnett of Brownwood; four grandchildren, Grayson Lee Barnett and Gabriel Dano Barnett, both of Oklahoma, Daniel Seth Barnett and Jaylin Danae Barnett, both of Stephenville and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Sartain and a granddaughter, Jordan Barnett.

Dorris Jean Cheaney, 80, passed away Saturday morning, March 18, 2006 at her home in San Angelo.  Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Southland Baptist Church in San Angelo with graveside service to follow in Fairmount Cemetery.  The service will be conducted by Dr. Dan Williams, former pastor of Southland Baptist Church.

Dorris Jean was born January 3, 1926 in Coleman, Texas to James Walter and Mary Nancy McKee of Fisk, Texas.  She graduated from Mozelle High School and on February 11, 1944 she married her high school sweetheart, Marcus Henry Cheaney, and spent the first years of marriage accompanying Marcus to various duty stations with the U.S. Army Air Corps.  In 1946, after the war had ended, the two of them returned to Coleman where their two children, Diana and Don, were born.  In September of 1955, the Cheaneys moved to San Angelo where Marcus had a 30-year career with San Angelo National Bank.  In 1986 they began their retirement life in San Angelo.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Cheaney; and her daughter-in-law, Susan Cheaney.

Survivors include two children, Diana Tankersley and her husband, Gary of Mertzon and Don Cheaney of Midland; a brother, Wallace McKee and his wife, Idell of Austin; two sisters-in-law, Billye Banner of Gordonville and Nancy Lindsay of Hurst; and a sister-in-law, Alice Cheaney of San Antonio.  She is also survived by five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Johnson¹s Funeral Home of San Angelo is in charge of arrangements.

Jo Sperry died Saturday, March 18, 2006 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (March 22nd) in the Fairview Cemetery in Midland, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

She was born July 5, 1934 in Millsap, Texas to Finis and Gladys Read Williams.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Midland.  Jo was preceded in death by her husband Fred, in 1994, a son Randy in 1979 and her parents.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Cathy Sperry of Bryan; her daughter and son-in-law, Silvia and Clay Pevehouse of Santa Anna; her brother and sister-in-law, C. H. and Mary Williams of Brandon, Colorado; her sister and brother-in-law, Anna and G. W. Davenport of of Tyler; five grandchildren, Russell Sperry and wife Melissa of Bryan, Michael Sperry of Bryan, Evan, Sara and Katie Jo Pevehouse of Santa Anna; a great-grandson, Jackson Powell Sperry; and several nieces and nephews.

Jo has requested that memorials be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Buffalo Trail Council, 1101 W. Texas, Midland, Texas 79701.

Funeral services for Gordon W. Brower (89) of Early will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 22, 2006 at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Pate to officiate.  Burial will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Gordon passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006 in Brownwood.  Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born August 29, 1916 to Loyd and Nora Kammerer Brower in Dawson, Pennsylvania.  Gordon married Mary Sackett August 14, 1943 and later served in the US Army Air Corps as a navigator during World War II and was recalled into active duty for service in Korea.  He operated his own tax consulting and accounting business in Dallas for many years and was a Baptist.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Mary Sackett Brower and his parents.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his brother Loyd Brower Jr. of New Lenoz, Illinois, sister Aletha Cameron of Greenville, Pennsylvania, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Margaret Williams of Early.

Judith Ann Finstad Payne, 60, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, after a long battle with cancer.  There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Netherton Funeral Home.  Memorial services will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps League Auxiliary at 3 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at Netherton Funeral Home.

Judith was inducted into the National Honor Society while in Windom, Minnesota, High School, from where she graduated in 1963.  She went on to graduate from the prestigious Methodist Kahler School of Nursing at Rochester, Minnesota, in 1966.  She enjoyed a long life of serving others at numerous hospitals as a registered nurse, serving as the director of nursing at several facilities.  This career ended while she was working at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center as a staff nurse.  Judith was born as a twin of Ronald O. Finstad on March 31, 1945, to Lorraine Mildred and Owen Edgar Finstad in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

Judith was preceded in death by her father and eldest brother Larry Odell.  She has two brothers, Travis Edgar of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Ron Owen of Wilton, Wisconsin; and a sister, Marsha Humphreys of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Judith married Ronald T. Payne December 30, 1978, in Smithville, Texas, bringing into the union two boys, Scott K. Nash and Shane K. Nash. Ronald brought three children, Kevin T. Payne, Shawn R. Schneider and Mya’ M. Roberson into their marriage.

Judith’s grandchildren include Derk Payne, Rachel Fowler, Ashley Heinrich, Talon Miner, Halley Hereford, Londyn Miner, Brandi Miner and Jacobi Roberson; and two great-grandchildren of Rachel Fowler, Clare and Lauren Fowler.

Funeral services for Marvin Bowden, 93, of Comanche, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jackie Auvenshine officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Comanche County.  Mr. Bowden died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at his residence in Comanche.

He was born on September 21, 1912, in Trickham, to James Henry Bowden and Ethel (Rhodes) Bowden.  In 1934, he was married to Lena Mae Smith in Mullin.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Weldon Bowden and Doug Bowden, both of Comanche; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Bowden; a great-grandson, Jimmy Paul Murphy; his parents; and one brother, Melvin Bowden.

John A. Roberts, age 81 of Evant and formerly of Lometa, passed away March 24, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at his residence.  Funeral services were held March 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman.  Interment followed at 4:00 p.m. at the Lone Cove Cemetery near Lometa with graveside services, Masonic services and military honors.

John was born on April 21, 1924 in Lone Cove to Ely and Effie Mae Godwin Roberts.  He attended school in Lometa until his father died.  John helped support his mother.  On August 21, 1943 he married Mary Kathryn York and served in the Navy during World War II from October 1943 to December 1945.  He owned and operated Lometa Locker Plant for 30 years.  John was on the Lometa City Council for twelve years, a member of Masonic Lodge #514 where he was a 32nd degree Mason, and in 1976 he served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas.  He was a member of the Lions Club, Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the First Baptist Church, and he helped establish the Lometa High School Rodeo.  Large concrete flower pots remain to this day on the main street of Lometa that John handmade some 45 years ago.  He helped his son build homes in Abilene, Potosi, and later in Coleman.  He enjoyed spending time in his workshop making things to give away to his family and friends.  John loved going to garage sales, and feeding the birds, dogs, and cats around his yard.  Most of all he enjoyed company, especially if they would play dominoes with him.  John always had a smile for everyone he met.  On April 9, 1983 he married Lucille Davis and moved to Abilene for several years.  They moved to Evant in 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Evant; daughters, Debbie and husband Mitch Fortner of Lometa, and Patricia and husband Gene Ditmore of Abilene; son, John Lynn (Country) Roberts of Coleman; four step-daughters, Jessie Baxter of Belton, Lena Mae and husband Noel Lawson of Konawa, Oklahoma, Evelyn Hagerud of Evant, and Donna Gail Mabes; and one step-son, Robert and wife Janice Davis of Burkburnett.  Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin Enoch and Leonard Albert; and two sisters, Ruby Mae and Erma Lois.

Beulah Gordon, age 88, of Coleman died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Avalon Alzheimer¹s Unit in Irving.  Graveside services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Beulah Laverne Ewing on March 3, 1918 in Coleman County, the daughter of Charlie M. Ewing and Clara Moore Ewing.  She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1935.  She married C. W. Jolly in June 1937.  He preceded her in death in March, 1976.  She later married Charlie Gordon in August, 1986.  He also preceded her in death in August 1998.  Beulah lived in various cities between 1941 and 1985, when she returned to Coleman.  She moved to Irving several years ago, to be closer to her family.  She was a housewife and member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Bratton of Irving; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Ewing of Irving; two grandchildren, James Bratton, Jr. of Fort Worth, Rebecca Minyard of Keller; one great-grandchild, Rachel Minyard of Keller; one niece, Deborah Holland of Columbia, South Carolina and two nephews, Dr. Rodney Ewing of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Gary Ewing of De Soto.

Elisabeth Dibrell passed away on March 26, 2006 in Mercy Health Care, Northern New York, Watertown, New York.

She was born June 2, 1911 in Coleman, Texas and had established her home in Three Mile Bay, New York after extended residential locations in Chicago, New York City as well as extended travel in Europe while she studied and carried on a career in the Arts.  She was a fashion designer of women's clothes and later a travel companion for tours of Europe.  She later took up residence with Mercy Health Care because of failing health.  She was the oldest child of Joseph B. Dibrell and Jewel Martin Dibrell who preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her brother James W. Dibrell, sisters Mary Bess Petty, Josephine Dibrell Jobe and Jenny Lee Dibrell.

She is survived by her youngest brother Joe B. Dibrell, Jr. of Austin, Texas and nieces and nephews: Ann Wynia, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jandel Pulcher of Bakersfield, California, Margaret Dibrell McKesson of Austin, Texas, John F. Petty of Petaluma, California, Jim R. Petty of Davis, California, William Dibrell Jobe of Snowmass, Colorado, David Harrel Jobe of Frisco, Texas and Will W. Dibrell of Austin, Texas.

Rafael Pablo (Ralphie) Guerrero, 49, of Coleman died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Coleman County Medical Center.    Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Santiago Udayar officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Rosary will be read at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.

Ralphie was born July 23, 1956 in Coleman County, the son of Catarina Ortiz Guerrero and the late Primitivo Guerrero, Sr.  He grew up in Coleman County and attended school at Mozelle.  He worked as a mechanic for John Deere for 10 years, was a rancher and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, Ralph Paul Guerrero, Jr., Juan Gabriel Guerrero and Frankie Nieves Guerrero, all of Ballinger; six daughters, JoAnn Castro of Levelland, Norma Guerra of Wolfforth, Annie Gonzalez, Melissa Williams and Melinda Brooks, all of Lamesa, Margaret Guerrero of Ballinger; his mother, Catarina Guerrero of Coleman; three brothers, Ynasio Guerrero and Johnny Guerrero, both of Coleman, Roger Guerrero of Santa Anna; nine sisters, Mary Vasquez of Santa Anna, Senada Orosco of Coleman, Angie Garza and Virginia Galvan, both of Bangs; Becky Carrillo of Dallas, Rosie Vera of Sweetwater, Irma Flores, Janie Hernandez and Elvira Torres, all of Coleman; 16 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ralphie was preceded in death by his father; three brothers, Primitivo Guerrero, Jr., Nieves Guerrero and Marcus Guerrero and his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pedro and Remejia Guerrero and Mr. and Mrs. Jose and Antonia Ortiz.

Mrs. Nell Hamilton of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas passed away March 28, 2006 at the age of 77.

She was born August 20, 1928 to the late Clyde Thomas and the late Bessie Bailey Thomas in Coleman, Texas.  She has lived at Holly Lake Ranch for the last 25 years, where she was a member of the Holly Tree Chapel.  She is preceded in death by one sister, Linda Sparks.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mr. Robert R. Hamilton of Holly Lake Ranch; one daughter, Judi Hamilton of Holly Lake Ranch; and one brother, Glenn Thomas of Coleman, Texas.

Eric Hines, 59, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006 in Abilene.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at 1:00 pm in the Coleman City Cemetery.

Eric was born on September 23, 1946 in Radford, Virginia to Edwin Franklin Hines and Julia (Smith) Hines.  He served in the United States Air Force as security police during Vietnam.  He was stationed in Japan.  On February 14, 1981, Eric married Vickie Lynn Shamblin in Abilene.  Eric lived in Franklin, Tennessee for 16 years, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina for 5 1/2 years and Granbury, Texas for one year.  In July 2005, Eric returned to Abilene, where he previously lived for 15 years.  While living in South Carolina, he was the general manager for McDaniel’s Acura Dealership of Charlston.  Mr. Hines was a Baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church of Granbury.

Eric is survived by his parents, Ed and Julia Hines of Fort Collins, Colorado; his wife Vickie Hines of Abilene; two sons, Mike Hines and his wife Lee Ann of Clyde, Billy Hines and his wife Al Anna of Tuscola; one step-son Jason Sterling of Abilene; one brother Jim Hines and his wife Karen, of Fort Collins, Colorado; two sisters, Judy and Ray Bruce of California, and Amy and Bob Jones of Canada; four grandsons, one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
