Monty Bible, 49

Monty Bible, age 49, of Katy, Texas passed away Saturday October 1, 2005 at 5:37 p.m. at the Coleman County Medical Center.  Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston with Rev. Charles B. Simmons officiating.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Katy Magnolia Cemetery with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Visitation Wednesday from 9:00 till 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston.

Monty was born on January 31, 1956 in Pecos, Texas to Hollis and Patsy Parish Bible.  He attended Houston schools and graduated from Dulles High School in Stafford, Texas.  Monty was a lifetime resident of the Houston area where he was an electrician by profession and a member of the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Ann Bible of Katy, Texas; his mother, Patsy Bible of Houston, Texas; father, Hollis Bible of Santa Anna, Texas; a brother, Bruce and wife Annette Bible of Katy, Texas; grandmother, Bessie Parish of Santa Anna, Texas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Paul Powers Wilson, 70

Paul Powers Wilson, age 70, of Coleman, passed away Saturday October 1, 2005 at the Coleman Health Care Center in Coleman, Texas.  Funeral services will be graveside today (Tuesday) at 4 pm at the Leaday Cemetery with Loyd Hopper officiating and burial to follow under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Son of the late Charlie and Barbra Downey Wilson, he was born January, 8 1935 in Voss.  On May 21, 1976 he married O'Tillie Scharschmidt in Ballinger.  A Coleman County resident most of his life and a veteran of WW II where he served his country in the Army, Paul had returned to Coleman in 1983.

He is survived by three daughters, Cherie Wilson Wrobel of Coleman, Debbie Wilson Slangher of Baird and Donnie Wilson of Oklahoma; one son Charles Lynn Wilson of Winters; one sister, Lovell Rosson of Hillsboro; and one brother, Curtis Wilson of Kerrville.  Also surviving are six grandchildren; Ashley and Shaley Villegas, Kelee Wrobel, Robert and wife Tina Rankin, Ronny Turk and Desiree Wilson; and three great-grandchildren, Blaze Garrett, Colby Turk and Ryan Rankin.  Paul also had several step-children, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends that also survive.

He was preceded in death by four brothers; Baby Jay, Melvin, J. C., and Bolin Wilson; two sisters, Edna Garrett and Odessa Holland; and one grandson, Blayne Garrett.

Sidney Sackett, 95

Sidney Sackett, 95 years of age, passed away in Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene on October 5, 2005.  Services were 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Glen Cove Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Patrick Bennett officiating, with military honors.  Interment followed in the direction of Walker Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to donor¹s favorite charity.

Mr. Sackett was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sackett, who were pioneer settlers of Coleman County, was born March 3, 1910 in the Camp Colorado area of Coleman County.  Sidney married Nell Dodds in Waco, Texas on December 28, 1948 and had lived in the Waco area 40 years prior to living in the Abilene area for the past several years.  He was retired and a veteran of World War II serving in the Infantry and the Pacific Theater, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife, Nell of Abilene; local survivors Patsy Sackett-Hill of Coleman, Allen Crockett of Coleman, Tamara Mills of Abilene and Dr. James and Gwen Sackett of Groesbeck.

One brother preceded him in death.

Cathryn Gray, 94

Cathryn Gray, age 94, of Coleman (formerly of Dallas) passed away Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 7:30 a.m. at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Services were Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Coleman with Rev. John Stanislaw and Rev. Dick Schultz officiating.  Interment followed at the Gray Family Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Cathryn was born October 14, 1910 in Carlton, Texas to the late Benjamin Ellis and Addie Lillian Hollowood Miller.  She was reared in Dallas graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School and continuing her education as a music major at SMU where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.  On February 14, 1945, Cathryn married Thomas Ulysses Gray in Dallas and they celebrated forty-seven years of marriage.  Tom preceded her in death in 1992.  She was a charter member of Gaston Oaks Baptist Church (formerly Gaston Avenue Baptist) and a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and James Crumley of Arlington, Texas, Nena and Ken Boyd of Grapevine, Texas and Christina and Donnie Henderson of Coleman, Texas; six grandchildren, Clarissa McElreath of Midland, Rodney Henderson of Iraq, Jason Crumley of Amarillo, John Crumley of Arlington, Jay Crumley of Arlington and Candice Mills of Winter Haven, Florida; and six great-grandchildren.

Cathryn was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.  Pallbearers were James Crumley, Ken Boyd, Donnie Henderson, Jason Crumley, John Crumley, Jay Crumley.

Delbert Staley, 79

Delbert Staley, age 79, of Coleman, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Memorial Services with Military Honors were 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Dick Williams officiating.  The body was cremated.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Staley was born August 10, 1926 in Kaufman County, Texas, the son of Robert Thomas Staley and Rosa Valma Solomon.  He grew up and attended school in Kaufman County.  He served in the United States Army, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign during World War II.  He married Dollie Dugger on April 9, 1972 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.  He moved to Coleman three years ago from San Angelo and worked for Derrick Service International as a welder in the oil field and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Dollie Staley of Coleman; five children, Delma Jo, Mary Jane, Diane, Marsha, Robert Dale Staley; five step-children, Sharon and Tommy King of Rockport, Billy Martin and Dorothy Staley of Arkansas; Debra and Jose Alonzo of Burkburnett, Diana and Robert Leatherman of Coleman, Brenda and Ronny West of Coleman; three brothers, Billy Bob Staley, Tommy Staley, Roger Staley; one sister, Dorialee White; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruby Jo Williams and one brother, Troy Staley.

Johnie Allen Pricer, 89

Johnie Allen Pricer, age 89, of Coleman, died Friday, October 7, 2005 at his residence.  Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 10th in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Hart officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born on July 25, 1916 in Bell County, Texas, a son of the late John Thomas Pricer and Dollie Brothers Pricer.  With his family, Johnie moved to Voss, Coleman County, in 1925.  He grew up in Coleman County and attended school at Voss, Anderson and Coleman.  He entered the Army January 21, 1941 and was sent to the European Theater of Operations on April 2, 1943 for 13 months service where he fought in Italy.  He was awarded the Presidential Citation and attached to the 36th Division.  He was a private first class when discharged on September 2, 1944.  On April 27, 1948 he married Jewell Oleta Teague and she preceded him in death in 1981; he married Donie Marie Wills on April 11, 1982 and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2002.  Johnie was a retired postman and a member of the World-wide Church of God.

He is survived by two sisters, Mamie E. Pricer and Nell Hart both of Coleman, Texas; one sister-in-law, Glynda Pricer of Wichita Falls, Texas; one niece and seven nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

Memorials may be made to the donor¹s favorite charity.

Curtis Dean Atkinson, 64

Funeral services for Curtis Dean Atkinson, 64, of Brownwood, were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Heartland Funeral Home with Chaplain Stephen Baker officiating.  Burial followed in the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.  Mr. Atkinson passed away on Friday, October 7, 2005 at his home.

Curtis Dean Atkinson was born February 1, 1941 in Sterling City, the son of Alton and Flora Lee Atkinson.  He was reared and attended school in Sterling City and later joined the United States Army where he served his country as a sharpshooter.  He was married to Betty Louise Baldock on February 12, 1965 in Big Spring, Texas.  Curtis and Betty moved to the Brownwood area in 1991.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bangs.  Mr. Atkinson was a talented carpenter and he also worked for the City of Coleman and Martin Brick Company.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Louise Baldock Atkinson; two daughters, Tina Louise Carraway and Cheryl Lee Atkinson, both of Coleman; two sons, Alton Earl Atkinson of Beaumont and Gary Lewis Atkinson and wife, Toni, of Brownwood; three sisters, Sara Jaurequi and husband Herbert and Rita Hess, all of El Paso and Shirley Hicks of Longview.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Curtis Aktinson and Flora Lee Statham Atkinson.

Clyde Thomas Webster, 85

Clyde Thomas "Jake" Webster, 85 years of age, passed away October 8, 2005 in the Brownwood Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Coleman with Dr. Jeff Miller of the First United Methodist Church officiating.  Masonic graveside services by the Coleman Masonic Lodge will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Resthaven Cemetery in Midland, Texas.  Interment will follow under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.

Jake was born March 12, 1920 in Rowland, North Carolina, the son of the late Willie and Della Webster.  He married Miss Dorothy Dyer on December 17, 1944 in Big Spring, Texas.  He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Force.  During his working days, he was drilling engineer and he and Dorothy lived in Fort Stockton, Midland, Odessa, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Washington.  He wrote poetry and worked hard to garden organically, even if it was only bulbs in a pot when they lived in apartments.  Throughout his life, Jake was fiercely loyal to his family, his friends, his church and his country.  He retired and they moved to Coleman in 1986.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coleman and the Coleman Masonic Lodge.  He was a Mason for more than 50 years.

Jake is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Coleman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Tom Martin of Mesquite, Texas, Julie Lynn Webster of Alta Dena, California, Carol Ann and Dale Claphan of Kennewick, Washing-ton; one sister, Dell Dorgan of Castle Hill, North Carolina; two brothers, Maurice Webster of Red Springs, North Carolina and Guy Webster of Rowland, North Carolina; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one sister and five brothers.  Family visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Maureen "Betty" Courage, 77

Elizabeth Maureen “Betty” Courage, 77, of San Angelo fell asleep in death on Sunday, October 9, 2005 after a long illness.  Family visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., today (Tuesday, October 11, 2005) at Johnson's Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Johnson's Chapel.  Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Matthew Brownlee, Brandon Gilbert, Benjamin Gilbert, Nicholas Gilbert, Jay Vallandingham, and Tom Brownlee.

Betty was born on October 31, 1927 to Elizabeth Matthews Pritchard and Marion Pritchard in Ralls, Texas.  She had nine sibflngs.  Betty rnarried Norman Foster Courage on November 27, 1969.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Norman; sons, Britton Gilbert and wite, Teresa of San Angelo, Terrell Gilbert and wife, Donna of Piano, and Charles Evans and wife, Kathy of Snyder; daughters, Diane Gilbert of San Angelo and Susie Leavitt and husband, Mark of Searcy, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren as well as 3 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by sisters, lva Fergusen of Waldron, Arkansas and Rhoda Pritchard of Surprise, Arizona.

Betty worked for Nathan's Jewelers for many years, but the largest part of her life was dedicated to lovingly caring for her family.  She strived to instill in each of her children and grandchildren a love for God and other people.  Her most cherished advice was to "Live one day at a time" and to "Let go and let God."  Betty's favorite hobby was shopping garage sales.  She eventually used her bargain items to create her own at home business.  Betty volunteered her time with many community charities including Meals on Wheels.  She also enjoyed traveling, music and reading.

The family would also like to express special thanks to Betty's granddaughter, Nicole Brownlee.  Nicole tirelessly and selflessly cared for her grandmother for many months, enduring much grief and self sacrifice.  Nicole and her grandmother shared a treasured relationship and we know Betty would not have wanted it any other way.  Also, a special thank you to Delma Palumbo who diligently shared her time, friendship and spiritual encouragement for many years.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers that a memorial be made to a favorite charity.

Dianne Chaney Sikes, 46

Dianne Sikes, age 46, of Ft. Worth, formerly of Breckenridge, died Sunday, October 9, 2005 in Ft. Worth.  Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 12th at the First United Methodist Church in Breckenridge with Rev. Mike Hitchcock officiating.  Burial followed in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Julia Dianne Chaney Sikes was born April 9, 1959 in Breckentidge to parents Elmer Earl “Booter” Chaney and Patsy June Rose.  She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1978.  She married Rodney Sikes on March 14, 1981 in Breckenridge.  Dianne was a long­time employee of Sonic Drive-In of Breckenridge, as well as a substitute teacher at Aledo High School.  She attended thó Aledo Church of Christ.  Dianne was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, Rodney Sikes; one son, Colby Sikes and daughter, Mariah Dianne Sikes, all of Fort Worth; father, Booter Chaney; brothers, Marvin Chaney and wife Linda, Ricky Chaney and Calvin Chaney and wife, Kay; and a sister, Trudy and husband, Johnny Diaz, all of Breckenridge.  She is also survived by her parents-in-law, Kenneth and Peggy (Fleming) Sikes of Bangs; brothers-in-law, Randy Sikes of Brownwood and Roger Sikes and wife Rita of Bangs; sisters-in-law, Ivy and husband, Mike Hitchcock of San Angelo and Iris and husband, Ronnie Seaton of Brownwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Merah Brooke, 89

Mrs. Merah Brooke, age 89, of Coleman, passed away October 11, 2005 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be today (Thursday, October 13th) at 10 a.m. at Walker Funeral Chapel with Mr. Sam Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman. 

Daughter of the late Byron G. and Ivy Sparks Brown, she was born on October 14, 1915 at Brown Ranch.  On December 26, 1935 she married Coy Brooke in Coleman.  He preceded her in death in 1993.  A lifetime Coleman County resident, Merah was a retired housewife and member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Coleman.

She is survived by one son, Brown and his wife Patsy Brooke of Coleman; one sister, Mrs. May Belle Perkins of Abilene; and one brother, Maynard Brown of Spur.  Also surviving are three grandchildren, Susan Wilson of Ingleside, Texas, Shala McDonalis of Comanche, and Jeffrey Brooke of Coleman; four great-grandchildren, and one great- great- grandchild.

Fredalene Sparks, Tapley, 77

Fredalene Sparks Tapley, age 77, of Valera, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert Sloan officiating and assisted by Rev. Ralph Howell.  Burial will follow in the Brown Ranch Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born on July 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Fred Sparks and Anna Simonton Sparks.  She grew up in Talpa, Leaday, Rockwood and San Angelo, graduating from Lakeview High School in San Angelo.  On December 18, 1947 she married Darrell Tapley in San Angelo.  She graduated from Howard Payne in 1949, taught elementary school and worked alongside her husband as he served as pastor and missionary in Texas and New Mexico.  She was a member of Valera Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Tapley of Valera; three children, Nancy Whitworth and husband Harry of Fort Worth, Texas, Jim Tapley and wife Gloria of Dallas, Texas, Gary Tapley and wife Nita of Valera, Texas; six grandchildren, Malinda Whitworth, Scott Whitworth, Dawn Massey and husband Abel, Tracy Whitworth, John Tapley, Ruth Lynn Tapley; great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Lou Fuller of San Angelo, Texas, Edna Sparks of Austin, Texas, Helen Smith and husband Ken of Valera, Texas; three nieces and one nephew, several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Viola Warrick, 86

Viola Warrick, age 86, of Coleman passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 2:10 a.m. at Hillview Manor in Goldthwaite, Texas.  Services were Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ with Elder L. C. Smith and Elder James Anderson officiating.  Interment followed at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Viola was bom November 5, 1918 in Elgin, Texas to the late Harry and Celia Clark Gordon.  She was a life­time resident of Coleman where she attended the Humphrey High School.  Viola married W. C. Warrick in Coleman, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1992.  She was a homemaker and member of the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include five grand­daughters, Debra Brockington to Killeen, Texas, Jacqueline Reed of St. Louis, Missouri, Sandra Warrick of Brownwood, Texas, Deedee Armstrong of Coleman, Texas and Lorrie Warrick of Brownwood, Texas; five grandsons, Randy Warrick of St. Louis, Missouri, Frank Warrick of Dimebox, Texas, Gregory Warrick of Coleman, Texas, Don Warrick of Coleman, Texas and Darrell Warrick of San Angelo, Texas; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Viola was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Warrick in 2003; three sisters and eight brothers.  Pallbearers were John Edwards, Darrell Jackson, Emest Jackson, Pete Jackson, Emmett Payne and Ricky Payne.

Sarabeth Anderson Siddall, 87

Sarabeth Anderson Siddall died in Midland, Texas on October 17, 2005 at Manor Park, Inc. which had been her residence for the past seven years.  Sarabeth would have been 88 years old on October 27th.  Memorial services will be held in the Chapel at Manor Park on Thursday, October 27th at 4:00 p.m. to honor Aunt Sara.  A family burial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls, Texas at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas 79701.

Sarabeth, the youngest of three children, was born in El Paso, Texas to James David Anderson and Pearl Morris Anderson.  She was preceded in death by her brothers and their wives, Darby Anderson and wife, Zoe Louise (Babe), and Bill Anderson and wife, Lena.

Sarabeth is survived by nieces, Mary Anderson Johnson and husband, Paul, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Gigi Anderson Linne and husband, Aubrey, of Midland, Texas and by great-nieces, Nancy Underwood and husband, Wes, of Wheaton, Illinois, Kelly Owen and husband, Steve, of Midland, Texas and Julie Lamb and husband, John, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and by great-nephews, Paul Anderson Johnson and wife, Sepi, of Shanghai, China and Kent Douglas Carlisle and wife, Heather, of Keller, Texas and by 13 great-great nieces and nephews.Memorials may be directed to Stonegate Fellowship, 600 W. Frances Pearce, 91

Frances Pearce, age 91, of Coleman, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at 10:58 a.m. at Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Services will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Interment will follow with arrangements under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 till 7:00 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Frances was born in Coleman on May 17, 1914 to the late Hale N. and Mexie Mathis Griffin.  She was reared in Coleman where she graduated from the Coleman High School.  On July 30, 1944 Frances married Jay Robert Pearce in Coleman and they celebrated forty-eight years of marriage.  Bob preceded her in death in 1992.  Frances was a lifetime resident of Coleman, a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Coleman.

Survivors include two sons, John C. and wife Kathy Pearce of Santa Anna, Texas and Richard Pearce of Coleman, Texas; three grandchildren, Erica Perce of Dunham, North Carolina, Anna and husband Ralph Galvan of Joshua, Texas and Robert and wife Marguerite of Lubbock, Texas; and three great- grandchildren.

Max Preston McCulloch, 68, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 20) at the Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.  The Rev. Bob Maffitt will officiate.  Private burial will be in the Coleman Cemetery on Monday, October 24th at 10 a.m.

He was born May 16, 1937 in Coleman, Texas, the son of Beamus Wilbur McCulloch and Neva Minatra McCulloch.  On August 31, 1957, he married Laverne Cooper in Big Spring, Texas.  She survives of the home.  Max was a graduate of the 1955 class of Coleman High School and then attended Howard County Junior College.  He completed his bachelor's degree in 1959.  He began teaching elementary, middle and high school and coached in Borger, Texas.  Max also was elementary principal for two years.  In 1964, he received his Master of Science in Education from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas.  Max received his doctorate in education from Texas Tech University in 1971.  He was a professor at Central Missouri State University from 1971 to 1996.  While at CMSU he taught in and coordinated the College of Education and Human Services computer labs.  He also helped develop and implement many courses and programs at CMSU.  Max received numerous awards for his services in the educational community.  Max and Laverne supervised study programs in Sweden and the United Kingdom.  In retirement, Max spent his time listening to second graders read, researching genealogy, archiving music and providing computer tech support for his friends.  In July 2005, he accompanied his family and granddaughter¹s high school band to the National Fourth of July Parade in Washington, D.C.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg and Phi Delta Kappa.

Max will be remembered by his wife, Laverne of Warrensburg; two daughters, Keli Houston of Odessa and Kara McCulloch of Warrensburg.  He also leaves wonderful memories with two grandchildren, Samantha and Mitchell Houston.  Max leaves one brother, B. W. McCulloch of McRae, Georgia; three sisters, Overa Rufle of Wichita, Kansas, Ouida Frick of Bartonville, Texas and Peggy Baker of Mesa, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Doris McCulloch of Coleman, Texas and many nieces, nephews and their children.

His parents and one brother, Tommy McCulloch, preceded him in death.  Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Ted Garten, Harvey Gossen, Bill Peter, Gordon Bachus, J. O. Miller, Charles Gilbert, Jim Hudson, Justyn Graham, Larry Quinley, Bob Bartlett, Bill Ketcherside and Richard McKinnis.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the McCulloch Grandchildren Education Fund or an educational fund of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.

Eldred "Uncle Skeeter" Simmons, 88

Eldred "Uncle Skeeter" Simmons, age 88, of Odessa and former Coleman resident, died Thursday, October 20, 2005 in Odessa.  Graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Brown Ranch Cemetery with Sam Wilson officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Eldred Simmons was born September 12, 1917 in Brownwood, Texas, a son of the late John Parks Simmons and Louella Wagner Simmons.  He grew up in Brown and Coleman Counties.  On October 5, 1965 he married Estell Jones McQueen in Coleman and she preceded him in death on August 5, 1987.  He was a self-employed house leveler and carpenter.  He was Baptist.

Survivors include one brother, L. G. Simmons of Midland, Texas; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, four sisters and four brothers.

B. W. McCulloch, 70

B. W. McCulloch, age 70, of Douglas, Georgia and former Coleman resident, died Friday, October 21, 2005 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 24 at Coleman City Cemetery in conjunction with his brother Max McCulloch’s service.  Rev. Daniel Stovall will officiate.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

B. W. McCulloch was born February 8, 1935 in Coleman, Texas, a son of the late Beamus and Neva Ruth Minatra McCulloch.  He grew up and attended school in Coleman.  In 1953 he joined the U. S. Navy and served in the Korean Conflict.  In 1981 he married Margaret Cravey in McRae, Georgia. B. W. had lived in Georgia since the 1960’s, working as a foreman at Elixer Corporation and later owning and operating a saw sharpening shop.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret McCulloch of McRae, Georgia; two sons, Brett and wife Kristine McCulloch and their son Gavin of Westminster, California, Bart and wife Sonja McCulloch and their son Garrett of Douglas, Georgia; one step-son, Tony Taylor of Milan, Georgia; two step-grandchildren, Shane Taylor and Shannon Taylor; three sisters, Overa Rufle of Wichita, Kansas, Ouida Frick of Bartonville, Texas and Peggy Baker of Mesa, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Doris McCulloch of Coleman, Texas; many nieces, nephews and their children.

Barbara Ann Gillis, 66

Barbara Ann Gillis, age 66, of Coleman, died Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 24 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Barbara Ann Knowles on May 28, 1939, a daughter of Foy C. and Velma Mae Barker Knowles.  She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1957.  Barbara was a life-long resident of Coleman and had been employed as a grocery clerk at the Shoppin’ Baskit.  She was a member of Concho Baptist Church and Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Kay and Jeff Heidenheimer of Stamford, Texas; three grandchildren, D’Nae Creel of San Angelo, Texas, Levi Creel and Shalon Heidenheimer both of Stamford, Texas; one sister, Lena Wallis of Coleman, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Louella and Grady Boyd of Lake Brownwood, Texas; one aunt, Eddie Mae Barker of Coleman, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Foy Wayne Knowles; three sisters, Nellie Boyd, Nancy Thate, Louise Pridemore.

Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Andrew C. Singleton, 80

Andrew C. “Ace” Singleton was born March 21, 1925 at Bangs, Texas to Allen Newsorne Singleton and Annie Gray Metts.  He went into the Arrny in 1945 and served in World War II and the Korean War in the 31st Infantry Regiment and Seventh Rocket Divisions.  He was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant on August 19, 1952.  He retired after 27 years from the Texas Highway Department.  He married Mildred Sparks on November 16, 1953 at Brownwood.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred, and sons, Noel Singleton of Abilene and Robert Singleton of Fort Worth; grandson, Adam Singleton of Abilene; sister, Joyce Woods of Everman, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were handled by Elliott-Hamil Funeral home of Abilene.  No services are planned.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Hendrick Hospice Care, P. O. Box 1922, Abilene, Texas 79604.

Ada Patton Thompson, 84

Ada Patton Thompson, a longtime Runnels County and Ballinger resident, died Wednesday night October 26, 2005 after a lengthy illness.  Family visitation was held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday at Rains-Seale Funeral Home.  Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger with burial in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Rains-Seale Funeral Home.

Born July 4, 1921 in Gouldbusk (Coleman County), Texas, she was the youngest of four children born to Charles and Ora Waldrop Patton.  Her family moved to the Norton Community in Runnels County during the depression.  She graduated from Norton High School and attended business school.  On December 24, 1940, she married Lewis S. Brown.  As a couple, they operated the Texas Theater and Hillcrest Drive-In Theater in Ballinger until he died in an automobile accident in 1965.  Mrs. Thompson had also worked in the women¹s clothing departments of Heidenheimer¹s, Higginbotham¹s and Wal-Mart.  On June 21, 1969, she married James Thompson, a Coleman County rancher.  A member of First United Methodist in Ballinger, she was also a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Survivors include husband, James of Ballinger; son, Stephen Brown and wife, Ellen of San Angelo and daughter, Beverly Brown of Durham, North Carolina.  Also surviving are grandson, Chuck Brown and wife, Jennifer, and great-granddaughters, Megan and Hannah Brown of San Angelo.  Other survivors include her husband¹s daughter Sherrie Love and husband, Clay of Talpa, their son, Cole, and a special niece, Pat Bell of Austin.

In addition to her parents, family members who preceded her in death include son, Gary Lewis Brown, great-granddaughter, Jordan Nicole Brown, and siblings, Margaret Bell, Bernice Haugawout and Charles H. Patton.  Reverend Joe Chamness, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Ballinger, officiated at the service.  The family especially acknowledges with deep gratitude the loving care and affection given by Sharon Harvell during Mrs. Thompson¹s illness.  The family encourages friends to celebrate her life and remember her through gifts to First United Methodist Church in Ballinger or West Texas Rehabilitation Center in San Angelo.

Evelyn Maedell Motsinger, 80

Evelyn Maedell Motsinger, 80, passed away Friday, October 28, 2005 in an Anson hospital.  Graveside seivices will be 2:00 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery with Buddy Thomas officiating, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.

Mrs. Motsinger was born February 27, 1925 in Coleman County, Texas to Lige and Tincie Fenton.  She married Chades Vernon Motsinger on February 17, 1960, in Abilene.  They owned and operated City Radiator for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Vernon Motsinger, five nieces and nine grand nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Motsinger was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Mary Wheeler, Billie Davis and Rebecca Ewing.

Dorothy Nadine McKinney, 85

Dorothy Nadine McKinney, age 85 of Coleman, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. 

Nadine was born December 21, 1919 in Baird, the daughter of Willie Augustus "Buck" Gary and Alma Virginia Edwards Gary.  She grew in Callahan County, attending schools in Baird and Cross Plains.  She married Wilton McKinney in 1945 in Baird.  He preceded her in death on December 29, 1997.  During World War II, she was a riveter.  She was also a visiting mom and grandma at the Abilene State School for a number of years and a member of the First Baptist Church in Coleman. 

Survivors include two daughters, Dana Beth McKinney of Abilene, Glenda Allen and husband Donald, of Loraine Ohio; two grandchildren, Cynthia Droog and husband Tom, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Joseph Allen of Loraine, Ohio; one sister, Ruth Lusk of Cisco; two sisters-in-law, Leona Gary and Hazel Rider both of Coleman; one brother-in-law, Carroll McKinney of Fort Worth and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 10 brothers and sisters, Irene Martin, Grace Smith, Howard Gary, Lloyd Gary, Weldon Gary, Dale Gary, Garland Gary, Hope Gary, Faith Gary and Charity Gary. 

Memorials may be sent to the Abilene State School, 2501 Maple Street, Abilene, Texas 79602.  Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Donald Dyer, 74

He was born November 23, 1930 in Coleman, Texas to Richard H. and Velma Brown Dyer.  Donald graduated from Mozelle High School in 1947 and enlisted in the Air Force May 1, 1951 as a Flight Engineer.  In 1956, Donald and Kathleen Carpenter were married.  The couple had two children, Jane and David.  Donald retired from the Air Force in 1977 and then went to work at Hanford, where he was a heavy equipment operator until retiring from Hanford in 1994.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling and watching the Mariners play.

Mr. Dyer is survived by his wife Kathleen E. Dyer of Benton City; daughter Jane Dyer of Benton City; son David A. Dyer of Richland; brothers George (Dewey) Dyer and Allen Dyer, both of Texas; sisters, Lorene Rodden and Pauline Salyers of Texas, and Lois Davies of Colorado.
