Mrs. Othal Warnock, age 94, of Santa Anna, Texas passed away Monday, August 1, 2005 at 3:55 a.m. at the Home Hospice in Odessa, Texas.  Service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Santa Anna with Rev. Bruce Hess officiating.  Interment will follow at the May Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  Family visitation will be today (Thursday) from 7:30 till 9:00 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

She was born Othal Lorene Davis on January 20, 1911 in Blake Community, northern Brown County to the late Thomas Mark and Cora Lee Tuckness Davis.  She was reared in Blake where she attended school.  On April 7, 1928 Othal married Oran Arley Warnock in Shiloh Community, Brown County, Texas and they celebrated thirty two years of marriage.  Oran preceded her in death in 1960.  Othal was a homemaker and a resident of May before moving to Santa Anna in 1984 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Derriel and wife Polly Warnock of Santa Anna, Texas; two daughters, Wanda and husband Burl Spurlock of Stephenville, Texas and Glenda Merworth of Midland, Texas; a sister, Dorothy and husband Thurman Boyd of Early, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Othal was preceded in death by three sisters, five brothers and one son-in-law.

Funeral services for Dr. J.B. Stephens will be today (Thursday, August 4, 2005) at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bangs, Texas.  Interment will be in the Bangs Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Bangs United Methodist Church and Howard Payne University.  Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood is in charge of arrangements. 

He was the son of John and Mary Stacy Stephens, was born in the Coleman County community of Buffalo on July 23, 1914.  He graduated from Bangs High School in 1931.  After receiving his BS degree from Howard Payne College in 1936, he taught high school science in Santa Anna and Coleman for four and a half years.  He then attended University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, graduating in 1943.  Dr. Stephens was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the attack transport USS President Adams APA 19.  He participated in five invasions with the Marines.  Dr. Stephens received Presidential Citation for Hazardous Duty during the Luzon invasion and the Battle of Iwo Jima.  He married Louisa Gage McLean on October 12, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee.  Dr. Stephens opened his medical practice in Bangs, Texas in 1947.  His many proud accomplishments included delivering over 1,000 babies.  Dr. Stephens was a member of the Brown County Hospital Authority organized to build the Brownwood Community Hospital and a member of the original Hospital Board of Trustees.  He served as the hospital¹s first Chief of Staff and treated the hospital¹s first patient.  He was a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and served as its Texas Regent for three terms.  He was active in the Central Texas Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, and a charter member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  Dr. Stephens served on community boards, the Bangs City Council, and the Bangs School Board.  He was team physician for the Bangs Dragons, and was especially honored to have the Bangs elementary school named for him.  He was a fifty-year member of the Bangs Lions Club and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bangs.  Dr. Stephens took joy in ranching and his herd of Polled Herefords.  Dr. Stephens closed his office in Bangs in 1986, but continued to practice medicine part time in the office of his son, Dr. Chris Stephens.  He was medical director of several nursing homes until he fully retired.

He is survived by his wife, Louisa of Bangs and his children: John Stephens and wife Madelyn of Houston, Bill Stephens of Austin, Dr. Chris Stephens and wife Nancy of Brownwood, Lisa Kilpatrick and husband Dr. Charles Kilpatrick of Marshall, and Tim Stephens and wife Angela of Dallas.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and one brother, Stacy Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Leora Ragsdale; and brothers, Ben and R. B. Stephens.

Ada Jewel Redding Zimmerman, 90, formerly of Abilene, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.  Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday at Wylie United Methodist Church with Rev. Lewis Holland officiating.  Burial followed in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home of Abilene.

The daughter of Melchora (Pearson) and George Keeton Redding, Jewel was born on September 2, 1914 in Coleman, Texas, where she married Garland Eugene Zimmerman on September 7, 1935.  She had been a resident of the Abilene area for 67 years.  Mrs. Zimmerman was a homemaker and a member of Wylie United Methodist Church.  She was a past member of the Abilene Garden Club, the Newcomers Club in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Order of the Eastern Star in Stamford, and Wylie Extension Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Garland Mack Zimmerman; her parents; four sisters, Cleo, Amy, Lora and Addie Mae; and a brother, Leman.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Eoff and husband, Chuck of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a son, Ken Zimmerman and wife, Paula, of Pottsboro, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Judy Zimmerman of Keller, Texas; a brother-in-law, Warren McClendon of Abilene; and a special nephew, Jimmy Brusenhan.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Keeton Eoff, Kristi Eoff Irving and husband, Brent, Mack Zimmerman and wife, Amy, Jimmy Zimmerman and wife, Tarrah, Katy Cullison and husband, Eddie, Sara Zimmerman, Amy Zimmerman, and Blake Irving; two great-grandsons, Mack and Jake Zimmerman; two great-granddaughters, Brynna Irving and Anna Zimmerman; and many nephews and nieces.

Alton H. Davis, 88, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2005 in Granbury.  Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.  Additional services were held in Snyder, Texas on Saturday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.  Graveside services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Snyder Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to charity of donor¹s choice.  Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Davis was born September 2, 1916 in Izora, Coryell County, Texas to William and Katie Chambers Davis.  He married Louise Cooper on October 12, 1935.  Mr. Davis worked as a ranch foreman in Callahan, Coleman and Crosby counties in Texas.  He was the Snyder Cemetery Sexton from 1958 to 2000.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Davis in 2002; brothers, Clint, Ray and Elbert Davis; sisters, Estelle Trout, Ava Turner, Eudell Townsend and Dutchie Davis.

Survivors include a son, Tommy Davis and wife, Carol, of Granbury; grandson, Terry Davis of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Denise Berry and husband, Scott, of Granbury; great-granddaughters, Katherine and Lauren Berry of Granbury; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

LaNell Williams, age 56, of Coleman, died Friday, August 5, 2005 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 8 at Shields Cemetery with Paul Hayes officiating, assisted by Sam Wilson.  Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born LaNell Lewis on September 17, 1948 in Lamesa, Texas, a daughter of Lowell Burton Lewis and Tennie Viola Gilmore Lewis.  She grew up in Eastland County and attended school at Carbon.  She lived in Eula from 1972 until 1992 when she moved to Coleman.  On March 25, 1993 she married Johnny L. Williams in Brownwood.  She was a housewife and a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny L. Williams of Coleman; one son, Donnie Culwell and wife Rhonda of Sylvester; two daughters, Kathy Mays and husband Tony of Clyde, Kristi Williams and husband Jimmy of Coleman; step-son, Jason Williams of Abilene; step-daughter, Joy White and husband Bobby of Odessa; one brother, Ward Lewis and wife Lavonda of Talpa; one sister, Lorene Lewis of Jonestown; mother-in-law, Pauline Williams of Coleman; five grandchildren, Joshua Mays, Colton Mays, Quaid Mays, Kaci Williams, Coby Williams; three step-grandchildren, Tyler Nevels, Ashlea Nevels, Cameron White; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherman Stearns, age 60, of McGregor, Texas passed away Friday, August 05, 2005 at 1:05 p.m. at the Westview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor.  Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of McGregor with Rev. Buddy Sipe officiating.  Graveside services will be Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Trickham Cemetery in Coleman County, Texas under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.  The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of McGregor.

He was born Sherman Clinton Stearns in Santa Anna, Texas on November 2, 1944 to Novella May "Sug" Stearns and the late Granville King Stearns.  Sherman was reared in Trickham and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1963.  He received his bachelor degree from TCU in 1967 and law degree from Baylor University in 1973.  On September 14, 1966 Sherman married Dortha Monyene Grammond in Weatherford, Texas and they had celebrated thirty eight years of marriage.  He served his country with the Army Intelligence Corps during the Vietnam War.  He had been a resident of McGregor since 1973 when he bought the law firm of Amsler and Amsler, where he has since practiced law.  Sherman was a member of the Waco/McLennan County Bar Assoc., College of the State Bar, Past President of the Heart of Texas Housing Finance Corp., McGregor Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and First Baptist Church of McGregor.

Survivors include his wife, Monyene Stearns of McGregor, Texas; a daughter, Sabrina Pugh of McGregor, Texas; a son, Clint Stearns of Bellmeade, Texas; his mother, Novella "Sug" Stearns of McGregor, Texas; three granddaughters, Tatia and Jessica Stearns and Kyla Pugh.

The family requests donations to McGregor Library, Trickham Cemetery Association or favorite charity.  Pallbearers include James Burson, Danny Davis, Jimmy Gatlin, Steve Hensel, Don Rice, and Glen Thurman.

E. Leo Green, age 77 of Millsap, former long-time resident of Irving, died Friday, August 5, 2005 at his home.  Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Oak Haven United Methodist Church, 1600 N. Irving Heights.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.  The family will receive friends at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 W. Airport Freeway, Irving, Texas  6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday.

Born May 22, 1928 in Coleman, Texas to E. Dewey Green and Ola C. Hefner Green, he graduated from Coleman High School.  He joined the United States Army National Guard and was a Master Sergeant in the 36th Division 1946 - 1957.  He was an accountant for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company from 1951 until retiring in 1992.  He lived in Irving from 1958 until 2004.  He married Marjorie Quinn May 31, 1975 in Irving.  She preceded him in death, January 13, 1995.  He was very active with the Oak Haven United Methodist Church and served as a volunteer with Baylor Medical Center in Irving.

Survivors include his children, David, and wife, Penny Green of Dumas, daughter, Carol and husband, Paul Schellhase of Millsap, daughter, Kathy Tidmore of Abilene, daughter, Sabra and husband Stephen Hawkings of Mansfield, son Eric and wife, Kelly Neilson of Plano, and son, Marc Neilson of Washington, DC; brother, Charles W. Green of Midland; eleven grandchildren, Crystal Green Griffin, Chris Green, Frank Green, Jason Green, Kim Green, Brandon Tidmore, Kason Tidmore, Ruston Tidmore, Taylor Hawkings, Ryan Hawkings, and Cody Hawkings; and one great granddaughter, Hannah Green.

Agnes Merle Threadgill Welch, age 93 of Coleman, died Saturday, August 6, 2005.  Funeral services will be held today (Tuesday) at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian/ Presbyterian Church with Dr. Henry Chisholm officiating.

Agnes was born December 16, 1911 in Dallas, Texas to Alice Gott and Edgar Forrest Threadgill.  She was the sixth of seven children and she had a twin sister, Eunice Earle.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roamie Babbitt in 1941, and James Clifford Welch in 1974; one son, R. B. Babbitt; one daughter, Connie Sue Welch McMullen; two brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jay Briggs; one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Babbitt; one sister, Eddie Mae Barker; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Big Country or to the First Christian/Presbyterian Church.

Thora Mae Walker, age 92, of Rising Star, formerly of Cross Plains, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2005 in Rising Star.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at the First Baptist Church with Terry Simmons officiating, assisted by Darren Jones and John Vaughn.  Burial will be in the Brown Ranch Cemetery in Coleman County, under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains.  The family will receive friends and relatives form 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, Aug. 9) at Higginbotham Funeral Home.

She was born on May 20, 1913, to Joel and Willie Beatrice (Haney) Copeland in Saledo, Texas.  Thora was a nurse as well as a homemaker.  She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Cross Plains.

She is survived by her sons, Douglas Ware Walker of Rising Star and Mark Dennis Walker of Cross Plains; daughter, Martha Will Jones of Abilene; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Willard Orville Allen, 76, of Santa Anna, Texas died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Canyon Lake, Texas.  A Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Anna with Pat McClatchy and Gary Boyd officiating.  The body will be cremated.  Cremation is under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas.

He was born on March 24, 1929 in Coleman County, Texas to Orville Slaton Allen and Bertha Copeland Allen.  He grew up in Coleman County, raised cattle and sold ranching equipment.  He married Jo Ann Hambright on February 22, 1949 in Coleman.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Anna; member of the Gideons; worked with 4-H and F.F.A.; and was Coleman County Commissioner of Precinct 1.

He is survived by his wife: Jo Ann Allen of Santa Anna; three sons, Miles Allen of Florence, Tom Allen of Big Spring and Russell Allen of Andrews; one daughter: Melody Griffith of Alvord; one brother: James Allen of Santa Anna; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Patricia Guy Ortiz, age 50, of Coleman, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 in Coleman.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick Schultz officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Patricia Guy on December 11, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of Dorothy Sexton Guy and the late John Guy.  She grew up in Petersburg, Virginia where she attended school.  She was married to Bennie Sendejas and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1994.  She moved to Coleman twelve years ago and was a homemaker.  She grew up in the Baptist church.

Survivors include two daughters, Karla Jane Morris of Eunice, New Mexico and Patricia Ellen Ortiz of Coleman; her mother, Dorothy Guy of Coleman; five grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Joseph, Katie, Monica; three brothers, Daryl Leroy Guy of Virginia, Gary Lynn Guy of Jacksonville, Florida and David Payton Guy of Coleman; one sister, Johna Sue Aechternacht of Rockett, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Colleen Moore in 1997.  Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Gwendolyn Oakes Walker, age 84, of Santa Anna passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 10:25 a.m. at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Services were Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathy Monroe officiating.  Interment followed at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Mrs. Walker was born June 17, 1921 in Santa Anna to the late Charles W. and Jennie Boyd Oakes and was the granddaughter of the late L. D. and Hortense Richards Boyd, early pioneers of Coleman County.  Mrs. Walker was a member of the Presbyterian Church, USA and a retiree of West Texas Utilities Company.  She was a lifetime resident of Santa Anna and a 1938 graduate of Santa Anna High School.  Mrs. Walker held memberships in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include a son, Charles and wife Carolyn Walker of Colorado City, Texas; two grandsons, Mark Walker of Austin, Texas and Scott and wife Jennifer Walker of Corpus Christi, Texas; and several cousins.

Pallbearers were Lane Guthrie, Montie Guthrie, III, Jim Spillman, Mark Walker, Scott Walker, Danny Wheatley.

Arthur Steffey, age 80, of Coleman, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 6:45 a.m. at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  Services were Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating.  Interment followed under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.

Arthur was born September 10, 1924 in Coleman County to the late Arthur Lenard and Annie Josephene Kelly Steffey.  He had been a resident of Coleman County all his life and attended the Junction Schools.  In 1948, Arthur married Norma Lee Simpson in Coleman and they celebrated forty three years of marriage.  He was a member of the Baptist Church, a carpenter and stockfarmer.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Hobbs of Brownwood, Texas and Sharon Cook of Richland Springs, Texas; two sons, Donald Steffey of Lake Brownwood, Texas and Danny Steffey of Burnet, Texas; four sisters, Fannie Mae Calhoun of Clyde, Texas, Wilma White of Coleman, Texas, Thelma Barkemeyer of Coleman, Texas, Ruby Sumerour of Waco, Texas; four brothers, Jerry Steffey of Coleman, Texas, James Steffey of Coleman, Texas, Richard Steffey of Coleman, Texas and Darrell Steffey of Waco, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arthur was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Funeral services for Louise Wall Pepper, 66, of Brownwood were held on Monday, August 15, 2005 at St. John¹s Episcopal Church.  Burial followed at the Eastlawn Cemetery in Early.  Davis-Morris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.  A visitation with family and friends was held from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home on Sunday, August 14.  The family asks that memorials be sent to St. John¹s Episcopal Church Building Fund, 700 Main, Brownwood, Texas 76801.  Louise passed away Friday, August 12, 2005 at home in Brownwood surrounded by her family.

She was born in Brownwood on June 21, 1939 to W. L. (Dub) and Pauniece Wall.  She married A. J. Pepper August 9, 1991.  She was an active member of St. John¹s Episcopal Church and was the president of the Episcopal Church Women.  She also volunteered at the church Food Bank.  While her children were growing up she was an active volunteer in the Rappahannock Swim League and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years A. J. Pepper and their loyal dog Feather; her sister Lugene Pelletier; her daughter CiCi Thomson and her husband Andrew; her son Mark Mills, his wife Kathleen and her grandson Scott Mills; her aunt Catherine Chianelli; step children Veda Pepper Christian and husband Gene, Monda Pepper Milton and husband Don, Bobbie Pepper Preston and husband Howard, Jimmy Pepper, Joe Pepper, Jay Pepper; niece Mary Katherine Carlisle; nephews Colt Carlisle, Kevin Carlisle and Corbin Carlisle; 10 step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; five grand nieces; two grand nephews; 1 god daughter and the Bridge Club of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The Rev. Carlton Earp, age 65, died Friday, August 12, 2005 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.  Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 15 at North Park Assembly of God Church, 1918 Jameson, Abilene with Rev. J. C. Amburn officiating and assisted by Rev. Ted Miller.  Burial will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born Carlton Dell Earp on June 11, 1940 in Abilene, Texas, a son of Homer Samuel Earp, Jr. and Ruby Richards Earp.  He grew up in Merkel and Abilene, graduating from Abilene High School in 1958.  He attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College for two years before transferring to McMurry College (now University) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  He later graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a Master of Arts degree.  Carlton pastored Pentecostal churches in Illinois, California and Texas.  At the time of his death he was pastor of the Foursquare Church in Hamlin, Texas.  He married Charlotte West Adkins on June 23, 1996 in Abilene.  He was a member of Phi Rho Pi and Phi Alpha Theta and had previously served on the board of Hebron Fiber Optics Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Earp of Abilene; two sons, Charles and wife Teresa Earp of Chicago, Illinois, John Edwin and wife Jaime Earp of Ypsilanti, Michigan; two daughters, Traci and husband Dawuni Issah of Irving, Texas, Ruth Allton of Carrollton, Texas; one brother, Rev. Sam and wife Shari Earp of Abilene; two sisters, Sandra and husband Henry Bayne of Abilene, Lana and husband Ronny Kading of Coleman; nine grandchildren, Melissa Earp, Christopher Earp, Chloe Earp, Josiah Earp, Alexa Earp, Evan Earp, Hope Issah, Harrison and Hunter Allton; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ed Earp, in 1967.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14 at Adams Funeral Home in Hamlin from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.  An additional visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at North Park Assembly of God Church in Abilene.

Ila Faye Rae, 72 years of age, of San Angelo, Texas, went to her eternal home on Sunday, August 14, 2005 at Community Hospital in San Angelo, Texas.  Funeral services will be today (Tuesday August 16, 2005) at 9:00 a.m. in Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Rouse officiating.  Interment will follow in the Talpa Cemetery.

Faye was born on July 24, 1933 in Valera, Texas to George Elliott Rae and Jessie Faye Titsworth Rae.  She lived most of her life in the Talpa, Texas, Coleman County area.  Faye was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Talpa, Texas.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Fuller and husband Jackie of San Angelo, Texas; Curtis Hardy of San Angelo, Texas; Larry and wife Paula Browning of Abilene.  Also surviving are her grandsons and their families,  Kris is Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Chad and Becky Allen of Windham, Maine;  Todd and Sarah Allen of San Angelo; and Robert and Jo Fuller Oak Point, Texas, along with eight great-grandchildren.  Other survivors are a brother, Billy Rae of Odessa, Texas and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in by her parents and her daughter Kaye Browning.

Malcolm Henry William Ullock, 76, a retired Aeronautical Engineer, died Monday, August 15, 2005 at a Grand Prairie hospital.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2005 at West Fork Presbyterian Church, 908 Santerre Drive in Grand Prairie.  Arrangements are under the direction of Brown, Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Grand Prairie.

Mr. Ullock was born August 17, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Donald S. Ullock and Charlotte Waldschmidt.  He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Peggy Tomlinson Ullock; son and daughter-in-law, Clinton Cameron and Sandra Ullock; sister, Juanita Luoni and husband Frank; sister-in-law, Annie Beall; several nephews and one niece.

Austin Cullins, age 88, of Kerrville, Texas, died on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at a Kerrville hospital.  The family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapels from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22nd.  Funeral services for Austin Cullins will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at Grimes Funeral Chapels, in Kerrville with Chaplain Jack Cook officiating.  Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

He was born in Santa Anna, Texas on September 2, 1916 to Guy Cullins and Linnie Sarah Smith Cullins.  He was reared by Lelia Smith, as his mother died when he was very young.  He graduated from Loss Creek School and was an athlete playing basketball, baseball and running track.  He joined the Marine Corps during World War II, serving as military police.  He returned to Brady after the war to work at Morrison¹s 5 & 10.  He met Dorothy Lee Fowler from Eden, Texas and they were married November 13, 1947.  They moved to Pecos in 1949, where he continued at Morrison¹s, then to Pecos Men¹s Store, Airline Cleaners and sold insurance for a period of time.  As a good golfer by this time, he volunteered to work at Pecos Country Club after the club lost it¹s golf professional in 1956.  Little did he know that this move would start a career that would last 43 years.  His career includes the following: 1956-1963, Pecos Country Club; 1963-1966, Kerrville Municipal Golf Course (Scott Schreiner Golf Course); 1966-1968, Victoria Country Club; 1968-1970, Willowbrook Country Club, Tyler, Texas; 1970-1978, Denton Country Club, Denton, Texas; 1978-1982, North Denton Golf Center; 1982-1999, Scott Schreiner Golf Course.  Austin was greatly interested in improving the conditions of each golf course where he was employed.  He was always interested in growing grass.  With his outgoing personality and interest in people, he was a natural as a Golf Professional.  His tenure at each course was a success because of how well he treated his membership.  He became an excellent instructor of the golf swing and was sought out by many for golf lessons.  Austin was a member of the Church of Christ.  He was also a lifetime member of the P.G.A. and the Central Texas Golf Course Superintendent Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cullins of Kerrville; sons, Danny Cullins and wife Trena and Guy Cullins and wife Ginger, all of Kerrville; sisters, Sarah Boyle of Coleman, Ruth Craft of Coleman and Edna Burkett of Andrews; and one grandchild, Avery Cullins of Kerrville.

Josephine (Buzzy) Bible age 98 of Killeen, Texas passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005 in Killeen, Texas.  Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Whon Cemetery.  Henderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Josephine was born December 24, 1906 in Bandera, Texas.  She married Alfred Bible on November 16, 1924 in Whon and they celebrated 75 years of marriage.  Alfred preceded her in death in 2000.  She has been a resident of Killeen since 1943, where Mr. Bible worked at Camp Hood and they owned and operated Bible Alternator and Starter Service for over 30 years.  Mrs. Bible was the shop's c-owner and book keeper.  Josie was a member of the First Christadelphian Church in Lampassas and the Order of Eastern Star Killeen Chapter.  She loved to garden, babysit her grandchildren and was a great cook and animal lover.

Survivors include a son - Odis Lee (Nina) Bible of Killeen, Texas; a daughter - Edith Tincy Turney of Santa Anna, Texas; 10 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great Great Grandchildren.

Josie was preceded in death by her daughter Doris (June) Bible Sanderford and great grandchild Dylan Pittman.

NOODLE: Steven "Dooky" Bland, age 48, died August 21, 2005 in Alpine after a sudden illness.  Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Taylor County Outdoor Pavilion with Andy Taylor and Bob Tallman officiating.  Burial will be in the Trent Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.  Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel.

Steven was born November 17, 1956 in Abilene to Rosemary (Beck) and R. L. Bland.  He married Tootie Bailey on September 1, 1993 at the YO Ranch in Kerrville.  He attended school in Ozona until the family moved to Trent in 1967.  He graduated from Trent High School where he was an all-district player in football and basketball.  He was Champion Calf Roper and All-Around Champion in the American Junior Rodeo Association and was Texas High School Rodeo Association Champion Steer Wrestler in 1975.  He attended college at Southeastern Oklahoma University on a full rodeo scholarship and was the only college boy to date that was on the College National Championship Team for four years.  He joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1977.  In 1977, he was Rookie of the Year in Calf Roping and Steer Wrestling and was the Cheyenne Champion Steer Wrestler.  In 1980, he was a National Finals Qualifier in the Calf Roping, won the Walt Linderman Award Winner and the Pendleton Champion Calf Roper two consecutive years.  He retired from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and was a member of the US Calf Roping Association.  He owned and operated his ranch of 600 acres in Noodle.  He was part owner of Cal-Tex Feed Yard in Trent.  Steve was a wangler and actor in many movies in and around Texas; The Alamo with Billy Bob Thornton, The Three Burials and The Good Old Boys with Tommy Lee Jones, Grand Champion, Dancer Texas, The Postman, All the Pretty Horses, Second Hand Lions and so many more.  His father, R. L. Bland Jr. preceded him in death, as well as his grandparents, Curtis and Alta Beck, and Eula Mae and R. L. Bland Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Tootie Bland of Noodle; a daughter, Cheyenne Bland of Abilene; his mother, Rosemary Bland Hayter of Abilene; two brothers, Rex Bland and wife, Kathi of Hawley, John Bland and wife, Barbara of Denver City; two sisters, Diltzie Edmondson and husband, Johnny of McCaulley and Becky Brown and husband, Terry of Trent; eleven nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Nadine Bailey of Reedley, California; and brother-in-law, Ross Bailey and wife, Sarah of Visalia, California.

Alice Wilkins, 92, passed away Monday, August 22, 2005 at a nursing home in Academy.  Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday) at the First Baptist Church of Academy with Rev. Brent Boatwright officiating.  Interment will follow at the Greathouse Cemetery under the direction of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Temple, Texas.

Alice was born on June 13, 1913 to Spencer and Martha McBride in Leaday, Texas.  She worked as a nurse¹s aide and as a CNA at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman, Texas and reared nine children.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Academy.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rosa Canady and Louise Fullen; three sons, Sherman Ray Wilkins, Earl Wilkins and Kenneth Wilkins; one brother, Earl McBride; one sister, Edith Whitehead; grandchildren, Susie Fullen, Raymond Canady; and great-grandchild, Crystal Craft.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Craft and Darlene Wilkins of Temple; two sons, Gerald Wilkins and Bobby Wilkins of San Antonio; one sister, Annie Littleton of Austin; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Anita Pauline Judd, 89, passed away Monday, August 22, 2005, at an Abilene nursing center.  Services will be 2 p.m Thursday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory in Abilene, with Rev. Rodney Watson officiating.  Burial will follow in Potosi Cemetery.

Born October 15, 1915 in Coleman County, Texas, Pauline was the daughter of Mattie (Curry) and J. D. Judd.  She taught school at Moran and for 34 years at Wylie High School touching many young lives in the community.  She was a former member of both Temple Baptist Church and South Lytle Baptist Church where she taught women's Sunday School classes for many years.  Most recently she was a member of Elmdale Baptist Church.  Her parents, four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Pauline is survived by a sister, Willie Mae Antilley of Mesa Springs; nieces, Jonell Oller of Amarillo and Irene Ayers of Abilene; nephews and spouses, Grady and Linda Judd of Alvord, Texas, Bryan and Sherry Judd of Mesquite, Wilburn and Ida Belle Judd of Potosi, Kenneth and Cindy Judd of Fort Worth and Steve and Clara Coursey of Azle; and nephew, David Judd of Azle.

Nora Hornsby Snider, age 93, of Coleman, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 26 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Coleman
City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born on October 11, 1911 at Shady Grove, Parker County, Texas, a daughter ot Leonard Eleazer Hornsby and Millie May McQueen Hornsby.  She lived in Weatherford and Comanche and moved to Coleman County as a child.  She attended school at Brown Ranch.  On January 8, 1933 she married Melvin Alfred Snider in Coleman County, Texas and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1967.  She worked as a clerk at C. R. Anthony’s for a number of years and also worked for five years at Yellowstone National Park.  She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of Home Demonstration Club and Triple L Club.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Marsha Snider of Coleman; one granddaughter, Kristy and husband Jeff Mitchell of Brownwood; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may. be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center or Hospice of the Big Country.  Family visitation will be held today (Thursday) from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dottie Pond, age 72, of Glen Cove, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at her residence.  Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 26 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ferris Akins officiating and assisted by Rev. Don Seigler.  Burial will follow at the Glen Cove Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Shields officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.  Family visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 at the funeral home.

She was born Dorothy Ellen McDonald on January 16, 1933 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a daughter of James Arthur McDonald and Agnes May Snyder McDonald.  She grew up in Gainesville, Florida where she graduated high school.  From 1952 to 1955 Dottie served in the U. S. Navy and was secretary to Chaplain Bill Powell in San Diego, California.  On March 20, 1955 she married Walter Pond in Midland, Texas and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2000.  She lived in McCamey, Midland, Louisiana, Wyoming and Colorado before moving to Glen Cove in 1977.  In Glen Cove she and Walt owned Pond’s Grocery and Station and operated the Post Office until 1980.  She later worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.  She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Crews. 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Marcy Pond of Glen Cove, Texas; four grandchildren, Krystle, Tracey, Austin and Cameron Pond; four sisters, Arvie Taylor, Jimmae Norwood, Dee Dee Burger, Harriet Reeves; five brothers, George, Richard, Ray, Dave and Billy McDonald; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Don Seigler; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, Teresa Stark, Francis Weekly, Barbara Markham; brothers-in-law, Bill Taylor, Jimmy Norwood, Wilford Markham, Paul Stark; her in-laws, Rev. T. L. and Viola Pond.

Funeral service for Oda Brooks, 99, of Coleman, formerly of Bangs, was 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Bangs with Rev. Wayne Lewis officiating.  Burial followed in the Bangs Cemetery.  Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood was in charge of arrangements.  Mrs. Brooks died Friday, August 26, 2005.

She was born August 13, 1906, and had been a resident since 1930.  She was married to Lidge A. Brooks in 1936, who preceded her in death.  She was a decorator.

Survivors include a daughter, Varnell McBeth and husband Lynn of Clyde; a grandchild, Robert McBeth and wife Carrie of Fort Worth; a nephew, A. J. Newton of Brownwood; and a niece, Nada Austin of Bangs.

Funeral services for Connie Rider Taylor, age 57, of Early were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 29th at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with Pastor Terry Hancock officiating.  Burial followed at the Coleman City Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Calvary Baptist Church Family Life Center in Brownwood.  Connie passed away August 26, 2005.  Heartland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born on December 28, 1948 to Henry Floyd and Gail Preas Rider in Coleman, Texas.  Connie had been a resident of Early for the last 30 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  In the early 1980's, Connie drove a school bus for the Brownwood Independent School District and later worked for South Park Development Center.  In 1997, she accepted a position with the Texas Youth Commission until her retirement in 2003.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Jason Wayne Cline of Killeen, Traci McClung of Brownwood and Staci Senkirik and husband, Craig, of Early.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gail Rider, and her grandparent.

Mae E. Boyd Baker age 82 of Coleman, Texas passed away Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 4:10 p.m. at Coleman County Medical Center.  Services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ with Rev. L. C. Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 till 7:00 p.m at. Henderson Funeral Home.

Mae was born on October 21, 1922 in Cuero, Texas to the late Henry and Annie Edward Boyd.  She was reared in San Antonio where she attended school.  On March 5,1935, she married Henry Rankin who preceded her in death.  Mae married Tony Baker on January 28, 1946 and they celebrated thirty nine years of marriage.  Tony preceded her in death in 1985.  She has been a resident of Coleman for the past 60 years moving here from San Antonio.  Mae had been a member of the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ since 1946 where she taught Sunday school, was church secretary, church treasurer, Bible Band president and church mother.  She volunteered many hours for CTO and was a homemaker.

Survivors include seven daughters, Eva Mae Holloway of Coleman, Texas, Mary Payne of Coleman, Texas, Wanda Jackson of Odessa, Texas, Annie Mae Hubbard of San Antonio, Texas, Suzian Perryman of San Antonio, Texas, Ollie Baker of San Antonio, Texas,. Christine Hodges of San Antonio, Texas; ten sons, Odell Baker of Coleman, Texas; John Tony Baker of Coleman, Texas, Samuel Baker of San Antonio, Texas, Jerald Baker of Dallas, Texas, Claude Baker of Coleman, Texas, Tony Baker, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, Jackie Baker of Dallas, Texas, Earl Rankin of San Antonio, Texas, Kerry Baker of Navy, Nathaniel Baker of Coleman; a brother, James Baker of San Antonio; grandchildren, great grandchildren; sons and daughters-in-law; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by daughters Claretta Hartford, Cosette Jackson and a son Walsh Baker.  Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Baker, Gerald Baker, Earl Rankin, Kerry F. Baker, Odell Baker, JB Baker.  Honorary pallbearers include John T. Baker, Samuel Baker, Jerry Hartford, Willard Hubbard, Sr., Tony Baker, Jr., Claude J. Baker, Emmett Payne, Mihon Perryman.

Billie Faye McDonnell, 78, of Plains, Texas passed away on August 28, 2005 at her home in Plains.  Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at Plains/Yoakum County Cemetery.  A celebration of Mrs. McDonnell¹s life will be Wednesday, August 31, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Plains with Rev. Bill Wright officiating.  Personal Services are bing provided by Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors/Plains Memorial Chapel of Plains, 806-456-2152.

Mrs. McDonnell was born on January 2, 1927 in Shields, Texas to Barney and Bessie Lewellen.  She moved to the Plains area in 1945 and married the love of her life, Seviere (Tommie) on January 5, 1946.  Mrs. McDonnell was an active member of the Plains First Baptist Church and her ladies' Sunday school class.  She also loved working with older citizens through the Yoakum County Meals on Wheels program and the local senior citizens.  She worked at the Western Grill in Plains and drove the Senior Citizens van.  She was a homemaker.  Mrs. McDonnell's children and grandchildren will remember her for her love of the Dallas Cowboys and other sports events.  Her greatest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memories include her son Jackie and two daughters: Darlene Wilson and Dene Rafferty, all of Plains, Texas; two sisters, Shirley Merryman of Coleman, Texas and Geraldine Graves of Carthage, Texas; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

J. E. "Junior" Key, 82, of Cisco died Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at Eastland Memorial Hospital in Eastland, Texas.  Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 2nd at Higginbotham Chapel in Cross Plains with Dwaine Clower officiating; burial followed in the Cross Plains Cemetery.  Higginbotham Funeral Home of Cross Plains was in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 19, 1923 in Burkett, Texas to Elmer C. and Anna (Martin) Key.  He graduated from Burkett High School in 1941 and joined the U.S. Army and he worked 20 years in the oil field after being discharged from the service, then returned to farming in Cross Plains.  He married Ouida Vondelle Shirley on December 25, 1945 in Pioneer, Texas and they had two children, Brent and Dianne. Ouida Vondelle preceded him in death on November 12, 1981.  Junior married Alva Rice Ingram on November 18, 1991, in Cisco.

He is survived by his wife, Alva Key of Cisco; son, Brent Key and wife Yvonne of Cross Plains; daughter, Dianne Hopper and husband Johnney of Brownwood; stepchildren, Dennis Ingram and wife Linda of Cisco, Sandy Dennis and husband Roy of Stephenville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William C. Key; a sister, Helen Woodruff Waitas; great-granddaughter, MaKenna Key; and great-grandson, Benjamin Pharr.
