Russell Lyndon Nance, 75, a former Comanche resident, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2005 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple, Texas.  Graveside funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. today (Tuesday) in the Board Church Cemetery with Reverend Gerald Burns officiating.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hall and Sons Funeral Home of Comanche.

Lyndon was born April 27, 1930, the son of the late Russell and Alma Stewart Nance.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and an avid auto collector.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Nance and Rusty Burkeen of Coleman; one son, Robert E. Nance of Bangs; grandchildren, Scoty and Heath Olinger and Michael Paul Shaffer; three great-grandchildren, Scotty Olinger, Staci Olinger and Lexie Olinger; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Jewell Shaw, 79, of Ballinger passed away on Friday evening, June 3, 2005 in the Ballinger hospital.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Rains-Seale Chapel in Ballinger with burial to follow in the Burkett Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on July 31, 1925 in Coleman to A. H. and Cecil Payne Carroll.  She graduated from Centennial High School in Valera, Texas in 1942.  She married Henry Jan Gaworski.  They were long-time residents of Mountain Home, Idaho where she worked as an office manager for Grant Petterson Auto dealership for 20 years.  Henry preceded her in death in 1990.  She moved to Ballinger in 1994 to be with her family and worked as office manager for Valera Oil Co.  She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Ballinger.  Her parents, two brothers, Roy Carroll and Douglas Carroll a sister, Helen Herring.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Jan Harris of Mansfield, Linda Dunkin and husband, Ellis of Euless and Judy Lowe and husband, Ronnie of Ballinger; eight grandchildren, Darren Harris, Dana Harris Eidson, Chad Harris, Cary Harris, Cliff Dunkin, William McCormick, Tammy Dacy and Waylon Dacy; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Carroll of Lake Jackson, Texas.

Veva (Toad) Bolton went home to the Lord and her family and friends on Friday, June 3, 2005.  Services were held on Monday, June 6, 2005 at 10:0 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Services in Coleman, Texas will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8th at Stevens Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Rockwood Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the funeral home.

She was born in Whon, Texas to Tom and Effie Freeman Cooper on February 13, 1922.  She graduated from Centennial High School as a star basketball player.  On June 11, 1943, she married Venon Bolton at the Coleman Church of Christ, during her lunch hour.  They shared 47 years together until Venon passed away in 1990.  In 1947 they moved to Fort Pierre, South Dakota where they resided until 1967 at which time they returned to Texas, first to Sealy and then to Odessa.  Veva had four brothers and three sisters.  Alfred Cooper and wife Rexa Dae, both deceased; Jack Cooper, deceased and wife Skeeta of Temple, Texas; Pete Cooper, deceased; Elec Cooper and wife Rose of Rockwood, Texas; sisters, Louise Davis, deceased and husband Alton of Snyder, Texas; Loma Minnix and husband Boog, both deceased; and Betty Jo Cooper deceased, and many nephews and nieces.

She is survived by her daughter, Dana Pexa and husband Revi, of Albuquerque; grandsons, Revi Don Pexa of Phoenix, Arizona, John Pexa and wife Tiffany, great-granddaughter Chloe of Phoenix, Arizona; and Van Pexa of Albuquerque; step-daughter Joyce Hamby and husband Paul of Phoenix, Arizona; step-son, Ray Bolton of Denver, Colorado; and step-daughter Connie Newman and husband Wally of Fort Pierre, South Dakota.

For the past 4 1/2 years Veva resided at Bear Canyon Retirement Center and Carestone Assisted Living. Veva requested that memorial donations be made to Special Olympics New Mexico, 6600 Palomas Ave NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87109, in the name of her grandson, Van Pexa.

Johnnie Everett Casey, Sr., age 71, of Coleman, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2005 at a San Angelo hospital.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Coleman with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. 

Johnnie Everett Casey, Sr. was born July 25, 1933 in Coleman, Texas, a son of Willard Herschel "Pat" Casey and Ollie Mae Lovell Casey Malaer.  He grew up in Coleman and attended school at Buffalo.  From 1953 to 1955 he served in Korea with the U. S. Army.  Johnnie was a life-time resident of Coleman and was Vice President and Regional Sales Manager for Handi-Clean Products.  He was also a founding member of the Handi-Clean Family Foundation and over the years was active in various service clubs.  He attended First Baptist Church in Coleman. 

Survivors include his children, Mindy Edwards and husband John of Tuscola, Texas, Randall Casey and wife Holly of Round Rock, Texas, John Casey, Jr. and wife Tammy of Coleman, Texas and Christy Gunter and husband Rollin of Rockwood, Texas; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-brothers, Wayne Malaer of Shertz, Texas and Marvin Malaer of Abilene, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Glyn Malaer and one grandson, Samuel Casey.

Arturo Torres, age 84, of San Angelo and former Coleman resident, died Monday, June 6, 2005 at Riverside Care Center in San Angelo.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. today (Thursday, June 9, 2005) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Clement Onwunata, CSSp officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born Arturo Urias Torres, the son of Ignascio Torres and Francisca Urias Torres, on November 20, 1920 in Coahuila, Mexico.  He married Lily Cardenas on February 3, 1948 in Coleman County.  She preceded him in death on February 14, 1959.  He came to Coleman in the early 1940¹s and moved to San Angelo in 1969.  He worked on ranches, dairies and feed lots including San Angelo Feed Yard and attended Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in San Angelo.

Survivors include two sons, Jesse James Torres, and his wife Irma of San Antonio, Henry Leroy Torres of San Angelo; one daughter, Betty Torres of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Kenneth Neives, Sandy Gomes, Manuel Torres, Mandolynn Torres, Ana Torres; two sisters-in-law, Dora Van Pelt of Coleman, Billie Cardenas of Glen Cove and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters and four half-brothers. 

Novella Purcell age 85 of Fort Worth formerly of Coleman, Texas passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 9:45 p.m. at the Stonegate Nursing Center in Fort Worth.  Graveside services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating.

She was born Novella Freeman on January 6, 1920 in Santa Anna, Texas to the late Charlie Roy and Gladys Hickman Freeman.  Novella was raised in Coleman graduating from Coleman High School.  On August 5, 1939 she married N. W. "Perky" Purcell in Brownwood, Texas and they celebrated thirty four years of marriage.  Perky preceded her in death in 1973.  Novella was a member of the Methodist church and worked with her husband in Purcell Accounting until 1973.  She then was an apartment manager in Abilene, Austin and Midland.

Survivors include one daughter, Becky Purcell of New Braunfels, Texas; one son, Dr. Duane Purcell of Fort Worth, Texas; one granddaughter, Catherine Purcell of Fort Worth, Texas; one grandson, David Purcell of Fort Worth, Texas.

Jesse Foster Bowers, Jr. was born September 17, 1929, in Coleman, Texas.  He died June 8, 2005 in Mason, Texas.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Max Gordon officiating.  Burial followed in the Gooch Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mason Funeral Home.  Condolences can be sent to the family on-line at masonfuneralhome.net.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Formerly of the Brazosport area, he retired from Dow Chemical Company in 1991.

Survivors include Cherry Bowers, wife of 55 years; five sons, Teddy Bowers and wife Susan of Red Rock, Texas; Gary Bowers and wife Janice of Brazoria, Texas; Bobby Bowers and wife Linda of Freeport, Texas; Dennis Bowers and wife Nadia of Brazoria, Texas; and Kim Bowers and wife Kimberly of Lake Jackson, Texas; mother Leona Bowers of Coleman, Texas; one brother, Donald Bowers and wife Dorothy; and two sisters, Charlene Keen and husband Bill, and Bobby Jo Knapp and husband Larry.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Richard Gordon Stewart, age 64 of Sweetwater, died Friday, June 10, 2005 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2005 at Broadway Baptist Church in Sweetwater, with Rev. David Chittenden and Ervin Lehrman officiating.  Burial followed in the Rough Creek Cemetery in Coleman County, under the direction of Cate-Spencer and Trent Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Mr. Stewart was born February 14, 1939 in Miles, Texas and married Sandra Jan Dale on April 11, 1959 in Novice.  She preceded him in death on March 17, 2003.  He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church, was U. S. Veteran and worked as a salesmen for Mrs. Baird's Bread before retiring.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Katherine Stewart of Taylorsville, Georgia and Alex and Jane Stewart of Sweetwater; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Shane Hawkins of Sweetwater, Elizabeth and Clay Lyman of Bay Minette, Alabama; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Granville and Helen Stewart of Houston, George and Francine Stewart of Sweetwater and five grandchildren, Amber Hawkins, April Hawkins, Haylee Stewart, Lexie Stewart and Cody Stewart.

Rheba Caskey McKinney, age 87 of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, died Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Forest Hills Health Care Center in Broken Arrow.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman, Texas, with Rev. Kermit Sorrells officiating.  Burial will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery, in Santa Anna, Texas under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Rheba Christine Caskey on January 26, 1918 in Lampasas County, Texas, the daughter of Frank Caskey and Ada Hammet Caskey.  She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School.  She married Walter McKinney on June 20, 1941 in San Antonio.  He preceded her in death on March 30, 1985.  Mrs. McKinney was a published poet, and past president of the San Antonio Poet¹s Association.  While living near The Woodlands, she wrote columns for "M" Magazine, and a local newspaper.  Her mother, Ada Hammet Caskey was a lifelong resident of Coleman.  Forrest and Neda Caskey, brother and sister-in-law were original and longtime owners of Caskey Florist in Coleman.

She is survived by one daughter Janice and her husband G. E. (Gene) Hunt, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Charles Ty Hunt of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; Gina McKeever, of Converse, Texas, Denae Seamans of Comfort, Texas and great-grandchildren, Charles Joseph (Joey) Hunt, Casey and Kyle McKeever, Christopher Hunt, Courtnie and Garrett Seamans; a niece, Pat Bailey of Grape Creek,Texas and a nephew, Bill Street of Odessa, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter McKinney, in 1984; a sister, Etioile Street and one brother, Forrest Caskey.  Family visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wilma Hubbard Threadgill, 92, of Abilene passed away Monday, June 13, 2005 at Hendrick Medical Center.  Graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Coleman Cemetery with Brother Ronnie Prevost of Lytle South Baptist Church officiating, under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home of Abilene.

Wilma was born on June 13, 1912 in Coleman, the daughter of A. L. Hubbard and Flora Finley Hubbard.  She married Edgar Curtis Threadgill Sr. on October 20, 1928 and had worked as a nurse at both Hendrick Hospital and Abilene State School.  She was a Baptist.  Her husband, one son, Edgar Curtis Threadgill, Jr., her parents, five brothers, Vernon, Allen, A.L. Jr., Paul and Billy Hubbard and two sisters, Ruby Atkinson and Ima Knowles preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jackie D. Threadgill and Joan of Abilene; four grandchildren, Jacquelyn Phelps, Steve and Ann Threadgill Michael, Trease Threadgill, Nicki and Joe Hill; six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Bohannon of Abilene; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Hubbard of Abilene.

Tommy Lester "Les" Robertson, age 82, of Coleman, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Conroe, Texas.  Graveside service will be Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo.

Les was born on February 7, 1923 in Coryell County, Texas to James Alexander and Estell Chitwood Robertson.  He married Verba Lea Brashear in 1944, and she passed away in 1968.  He married Nelda Lively on January 26, 1970 and she passed away in 1996.  He was a meat market manager for Safeway grocery stores until his retirement.  Les lived in Coleman many years, where he spent some of the best years of his life.

Les is survived by his daughter Linda, and her husband and Les' son, Mark Wright, brother E. J. Robertson of Missouri, special friends; Leon and Billie Griffin of Coleman, to whom the family extends a very special thanks for their loving care of their Daddy while he was living in Coleman, several loving nieces and nephews, and stepdaughters; Joyce Joy of San Angelo and Beverly Simpson of Dallas.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, both of his loving wives, and a sister, Fannye Sitton.

Opal Langford, age 86, of Santa Anna, Texas passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 3:15 p.m. at the Coleman County Medical Center.  Services were Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Hess, Rev. John Stanislaw and Rev. Raymond Jones officiating.  Interment followed at the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.

Opal was born September 16, 1918 in Norman, Oklahoma to the late William Alexander and Ella Mae Childress Wallace.  She attended schools in Sidney and Denton Valley.  On October 22, 1936 Opal married Claude F. Langford in Baird, Texas and they celebrated fifty seven years of marriage.  Claude preceded her in death in 1994.  Opal was a member of the First Baptist Church for 59 years and an active member in the JOY group, also a member of the Rockwood Quilting Club.  She liked to quilt and has quilted numerous quilts for the family.  She was a resident of Coleman County since 1938 where she was a homemaker and retired after 20 years from the Santa Anna School food service.

Survivors include two sons, Carl and wife Jean Langford of Santa Anna, Texas and Hubert Wayne and wife Ann Langford of Early, Texas; a daughter, Janice and husband Edwin Hipsher of Santa Anna, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 35-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Opal was preceded in death by her son Robert Joe (Bobby) Langford and by her sisters and brothers.  Pallbearers included Brent Langford, Don Langford, Lawrence Langford, Jackie Smith, Adam Garcia, Jim Pye, Boyd Porter, Carroll Blacklock.  Honorary pallbearers were Dub Aldridge, Elgean Harris, Luther McCrary, Vernon Rowe, Pete Rutherford.

Victor John Korenek, Sr. born in Crosby, Texas on September 2, 1916 to Joseph and Frances Machala Korenek, died on June 15th, 2005 at 11:22 a.m. in Houston, Texas.  Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Malchar, his grandson, Capt. Victor worked in his early life as a butcher for the old Gernaders/Weingartens in Baytown, Texas.  He went to work for Exxon in the rubber plant before World War II and retired in his sixties to travel the United States with his wife.  He was a member of the KJT and the Knights of Columbus.  Victor and his family were members of St. Joseph¹s Catholic Church in Baytown and their children were some of the original members of St. Joseph¹s School when they opened in the late 40¹s.  Victor put his children thru College by making "Korenek¹s Genuine Czech Smoked Sausage" on his days off from work.  Margaret and Victor moved several years ago to live near their daughter, Mary, in Coleman, Texas where they were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Then they moved to Houston to an assisted living facility. 

Johnnie W. (Jack) Pierce, 79, of Winters died Monday, June 20, 2005 at his residence.  Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Winters with Rev. Barry Taylor officiating.  Burial followed in the Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Winters Funeral Home.  Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church or donor's favorite charity.  Pallbearers were Toby Marks, grandson; Justin Calcote, grandson; Wendell Anderson, nephew; James Hamilton, great-grandson; and grandsons-in-law Troy Ramsey, John Bryant, Shane Cooper and Sean Morris.  Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of First Baptist Church, Monroe Boles, Ray Laughon, Kenneth Sneed and Jim Black.

He was born March 30, 1926 in Winters to Johnnie Lee and Dessie Mae Bowen Pierce and was a lifelong resident.  He attended school in Winters and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  On June 23, 1946, he married Loretta Freeman in Winters.  He worked for Bob Loyd L.P. Gas Company, American Supply and Winters Oilfield Supply, retiring in 1992.  He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, treasurer of his Sunday School class, and served as Deacon.  He and his wife Loretta were currently serving as coordinators of the church prayer chain.  He was active with Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Pierce of Winters; three daughters, Diana Karen Hicks and husband Bill of Talpa, Janie Kay Marks and husband Robert of Bradshaw and Renee Calcote and husband Mike of Winters; son, Alton Lee Pierce and wife Betty of Shamrock; two brothers, Vollie Dee Pierce and wife Annie Belle of Winters and Varnell Pierce and wife Alma Lou of Winters; one sister, Nadine Kute and husband Tom of Abilene; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Willie Ray Pierce, and one grandson, Aaron John (A.J.) Hicks on June 27, 1982.

Mrs. Jessie Faye (Titsworth) Rae, 90 years of age, passed away June 21, 2005 in the San Angelo Community Hospital.  Family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman.  Funeral services will be on Friday, June 24, 2005 with Rev. Barry Bradley and Rev. Donnie Rouse officiating with interment to follow in the Talpa Cemetery.

Mrs. Rae was born December 19, 1914 at Bead Mountain near Valera, Coleman County, Texas.  Jessie had lived in the Talpa area most of her life and later moved to San Angelo with her daughter.  She was married to Mr. George E. Rae in Coleman, Texas.  He preceded her in death in 1989.  Jessie was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Talpa, Texas.

She is survived by her daughter, Ila Faye Rae of San Angelo, Texas; son, Bill Rae of Odessa, Texas; grandchildren, Kathy and husband Jackie Fuller of San Angelo, Curtis Hardy of San Angelo, Larry and wife Paula Browning of Abilene, Dr. Alton and wife Charla Rae of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Royanne and husband Denzil Pullen of Odessa; seven great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Robert Leon Day, 65, of Sonora, Texas, went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2005.  Services were at 10:00 a.m. June 25, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Sonora with Chaplain Donald Moon officiating.  Pallbearers were Mike Perciful, Steve Hinshaw, Wyline Norton, John Clark, Dickie Woods and Bill Wood.  Honorary pallbearers were Tim Ponsetti, Wilbur Motley, Kenneth Martin, Gene Adams, Donnie Deel, James Dalby and Randy Turner of Abilene, Texas.

Robert was born in Silver Valley, Texas on July 7, 1939.  He married Pat, his soul mate on January 23, 1960.  They moved to Sonora in 1973.  He owned and operated an oil field service company.  Robert was a loving son, devoted husband, bigger than life father and extraordinary G-Pa.  Robert was a dedicated friend to many.  Robert was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Lee Day of Coleman, Texas.

He is survived by his mother, Jewel Day of Coleman; his wife, Pat Day of Sonora; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Antoinette Day of San Angelo; daughter and son-in-law Tracy and Frank Konvicka of Pipe Creek, Texas; his grandchildren, Cody and Kaci Day of Katy, Texas, Brian and Brandon Konvicka of Pipe Creek.  He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Mallie and Jeanette Turner of Sonora; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Inez Clifton of Midland, Texas, Shirley Hamlin of San Angelo, Donnie Clifton of Santa Anna, Bobby and Diana Clifton of Katy, Ted and Nelda Clifton of Lake Brownwood, John and Judy Tidwell of Dallas, and Kippy Clifton of Los Angeles, California; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert loved the outdoors and all things associated with it.  He was in love with life itself and surrounded himself with the things he loved whether it was being with his family, fishing, taking care of his horses, or being with his friends.  There are no words to express what Robert meant to each of us.  All we can say is we are totally blessed to have had him in our hearts and in our lives.  Robert¹s legacy of unconditional love will live on through his friends and family for eternity.

By the grace of God and the sacrificial gift of His precious Son, Jesus Christ, the spirit of Mary Fay Harmes, one of His children, age 88, of Coleman, Texas left this world for heaven on Thursday, June 23, 2005 from Holiday Hill Nursing Home.  Funeral Services for Mary Fay Harmes were held Sunday, June 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Community Baptist Church, 218 Lackland Street in Coleman, with Paul Smith and Rex Boggs officiating.  Burial followed in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman.  Pallbearers were Marty and Cody Shields, Brian and Shane Bird, Rusty Patton and Randy Brooks. 

Mary Harmes was born June 12, 1917 near Burkett in Coleman County and was a lifetime resident of Coleman.  Her parents were Cassie and Gussie Coleman.  She attended and graduated at Buffalo School.  On September 8, 1932, she married Luther "Shorty" Harmes in Coleman.  She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother as well as a precious friend.  Mary worked beside her husband for many years as bookkeeper at Shorty Harmes Garage and during his time as a horse trainer.  She was a lifetime member of Central Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years.  Recently, during her ill health, she attended Community Baptist Church with her son and his family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty Harmes; a daughter, Neva Bowen, a son, Glen Harmes, five brothers and one sister. 

There was a family visitation at Stevens Funeral Home Saturday, June 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Memorials may be made to Community Baptist Church, 218 Lackland Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.

Funeral service for Eugene 'Junior' Grider, Jr., 73, of Early was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26th in the Chapel at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas with Rev. Ruben Packer officiating.  Burial followed in Salt Creek Cemetery.  Mr. Grider passed away Friday, June 24, 2005 in Brownwood.

Eugene Grider, Jr. was born February 7, 1932 in Cross Plains, the son of Eugene and Alice Grider.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was married to Norma Birdwell on May 25, 1958 in Coleman.  She preceded him in death after 40 years of marriage, in March of 1998.  He later married Pat Langley on August 22, 1998 at Lake Brownwood.  He was a self-employed electrician and had lived in Early for the past 36 years, moving there from Coleman.  'Junior' was a member of the American Legion and Victory Baptist Church.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Pat Grider of Early; two sons, Dewey Grider and wife Sabrina of Blanket and Michael Grider and wife Jill of Lubbock; one daughter, D'une Winfrey of Brownwood; four step-sons, Mike Langley and wife Debbie, Donnie Langley and wife Amber and Benny Langley and wife Melinda, all of Brownwood, and Steve Langley and wife Betty of Houston; one step-daughter, Jeanne Teague and husband Duane of Brownwood; three brothers, Robert Grider of Rising Star, Dick Grider of Cross Plains and David Grider of Gunsight; three sisters, Frances Taylor of Cross Plains, Helen Gage of Sabana and Rosa Lee McClain of Conroe; grandchildren, Michael Dareing, Amanda Williams, Bailee Lusk and Whitney Lusk; and six great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by seven step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Wiginton, age 87, passed away June 26, 2005.  Funeral services were held Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Elm Street Church of Christ with Mr. Joe Hailey officiating.  Burial followed in the Glen Cove Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.  Pallbearers were Ricky Barnett, Dwight Holloway, Brian Wiginton, Allen Wiginton, Jake Wiginton and Josh Wiginton.

Mrs. Wiginton was born November 11, 1917 in White Chapel, Coleman County, Texas.  She was the daughter of the late John Mitchell and Ruby Savage.  She married Raymond Wiginton on February 22, 1947 in Brownwood, Texas.  He preceded her in death, after 29 years of marriage, on August 11, 1976.  She was a housewife and mother and had lived in Coleman all of her life.  Mrs. Wiginton was a long-time member of the Elm Street Church of Christ.  She sang at many church events and funerals.  Elizabeth enjoyed poetry, flowers and birds.  She loved the Lord, her family and friends unconditionally.  Her legacy of faith, hope and love will live on through her family and friends.

Those loved ones left behind to cherish Elizabeth¹s memory include three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Becky Wiginton of Coleman, Dan and Diane Wiginton of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joel and Cathy Wiginton of Abilene, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brian Wiginton and wife Heather of Haltom City, Texas, Carrie Holloway and husband Dwight of Coleman, Texas, Allen Wiginton, Erin Wiginton and Amy Wiginton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jake Wiginton and wife Kelley of Abilene, Texas and Josh Wiginton and wife Lindsay of Abilene, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Terren and Kirah Holloway of Coleman.

Audra L. Mitchell, 88, of Winters (father of local resident) died Monday, June 27, 2005 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today (Thursday, June 30) at First Baptist Church, Winters, Texas with Rev. Barry Taylor, Rev. Ferris Akins and Rev. Truman Turk officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, directed by Winters Funeral Home.  Pallbearers include George W. Woodfin, Weldon Holbrooks, Billy Joe Colburn, Pyburn Brown, G.W. Sneed, Bill Cathey, Clifton Poe, Monte Angel, Randall Sneed.  Honorary pallbearers are members of the Jess Shaw Sunday School Class and their teacher, Dennis McBeth.

He was born February 6, 1917 to Martin Luther Mitchell and Nancy Elizabeth Yancy Mitchell.  He was reared on the family farm near Pumphrey and lived there all his life, except for his college years.  He graduated from John Tarleton and from Texas Tech with degrees in Agronomy.  After the death of his father in 1937 he began farming, a vocation he continued until ill health forced his retirement.  He married Lila Smith on April 29, 1939.  He was a farmer and cattleman as well as being active in his community.  He served on the WISD school board for 12 years, the hospital board, Runnels County water board and the board of directors of the old Winters State Bank.  He was a member of Pumphrey Baptist Church for 40 years and the First Baptist Church for 26 years, serving as a deacon for a total of 62 years in both churches.

Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Lila Mitchell of Winters; two sons, Mike Mitchell and wife Linda of Winters and A.L. Mitchell and wife Carol of Houston; two daughters, Marilyn Rock and husband Bob of Spring Branch and Elizabeth Young and husband Garner of Coleman; seven grandchildren, Julie Mitchell Innmon of Dallas, Jason Mitchell of Winters, Doug and Denise Mitchell of Houston, Stephen and Lydia Young of Bruni, Jeff and Kathy Young of Albuquerque, New Mexico, David and Lea Ann Rock of Comfort and Colonel Tony Rock and wife Kim of Langley AFB, Virginia; eight great-grandsons, Chase Mitchell, Jeffery and Drew Innmon, Trevor and Ethan Young, J. D. Rock and Bennett and A. J. Rock; two great-granddaughters, Peyton Mitchell and Meggie Rock; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Zora Hill and Ila Conner, and by his youngest grandchild, Justin Ryan Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Justin Ryan Mitchell Scholarship Fund at the State National Bank in Winters.

Felipe Vasquez, age 83 of Coleman, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at his residence.  Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Steve Baker officiating.  Burial followed in the Brown Ranch Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Vasquez was born May 1, 1922 in Burnet, Texas, the youngest of 13 children, to Juan and Elaine Vasquez.  He grew up in Coleman County and married Clara Fuentes on August 15, 1959 in Ballinger.  He worked on various ranches in Coleman County.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Vasquez of Coleman, one son, Israel Vasquez of Coleman; two nieces, Ruby Trevino of Coleman, Juanita Nieto of Marble Falls; great-niece, Isabel Garza of Winters; great-nephew, David Trevino of Little Rivers Academy, Texas and two great-great nephews, Stephen Tyler Garza of Winters and Isaac Trevino of Coleman. He was preceded in death by one son, Theodore Vasquez and 12 brothers and sisters.

CISCO:  A memorial service for Mable Louise Kizer Fletcher, 92, of Hanford, California was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Summers - Chambers Funeral Home in Cisco.  Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery.  Mrs. Fletcher died Wednesday, June 29, 2005.

She was born November 29, 1913 in Pittsburg, to Joseph Walter Kizer and Altha Eugenia Barnwell Kizer.  She graduated from Coleman High School in 1933.  On November 29, 1933, she married J. C. Fletcher.  He preceded her in death.  She was a housewife for many years.  She was the bursar at Cisco Junior College.

Survivors include one son, Robert Lynn Fletcher and wife Marjorie of Wylie; one daughter, Flora Jean Fletcher Lloyd and husband Bob of Riverdale, Calif.; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles Kizer and wife Charlie Mae of Brownwood and Fred R. Kizer of Midland.

PFLUGERVILLE:  Josephine Armenta Hartsfield passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2005.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the First Baptist Church of San Angelo.  Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Cook - Walden / Capital Parks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Armenta was born on June 20, 1916 in Santa Anna, Texas.  Her parents, William and Leona Ragsdale, had six girls and one boy.  After graduating from high school, Armenta attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where she received her degree in education.  Her first teaching position took her to Sanderson, Texas where she met Durwood "Rags" Hartsfield.  They were married in 1944.  He was immediately sent to Germany to fight in World War II.  After his return, the couple moved to San Angelo, which became their home for the next 55 years.  Durwood preceded Armenta in death in 2001, after 56 years of marriage.  Teaching was her lifelong occupation and gift.  She taught special education in the public schools in San Angelo for over 20 years.  On Sundays and Wednesdays, you would find her at First Baptist Church in San Angelo teaching Girls in Action (GAs), Young Women in Action (YWAs), university students from Angelo State, young service personnel from Goodfellow Air Force Base or special education students.

She is survived by her two sons, Ross and his wife, Tonya, their children, Sarah, Bethany and Mark and also by Russell and his wife, Susan, and their children, Jessica, Ryan and Rhett. Both families are of Austin.  Her two sisters, Leta Parker of Denison (formerly of Santa Anna) and Arabel Conner of Austin, also survive her.

Guy Watson, age 45, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005 in Abilene, Texas.  Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2nd at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, with The Hamil Family Funeral Home of Abilene in charge of arrangements.  Pallbearers were Rosemary Ash, Larry Farr, Sam Elliott, Henry Loza, Dole Mitchell and Eddie Nevarro.  Honorary pallbearers were West Texas Rehabilitation Center Employees.

Jeffry Guy Watson was born May 16, 1960 in Abilene, Texas to parents Jack Watson and Joe Atwood Watson.  He moved to Abilene from Cross Plains in September of 1967.  Guy graduated from Cooper High School in 1981 and has done volunteer work for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center for 13 years.  He was the assistant coach for the WTRC softball team.  Guy was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.

Guy is survived by his dad, Jack Watson of Burkett; his mother, Joe Watson of Abilene; a brother, Todd Watson of Tyler; and a sister, Staci Watson of Memphis, Tennessee.  Memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.
